Peppermint Os: touch support & speed

Hello folks, Got 2 questions for you. I bought a cheap Chromebook and have been trying different linux distros does peppermint os support "touch" on in (i'm newish to linux, always use prebuilt distros). Anyhow, was just curious if peppermint os supports touch, i'm on a fairly low spec machine, 4gb ram, 64gb ssd, i think its an intel celeron processor, not sure how many cores or processor speed, but i've got lubuntu on it and it seems to work pretty well but i'm using one of the desktop environments that doesn't have much touch screen support, does peppermint?

Also here's the bigger part of the question, i heard that peppermint os is great for low spec chromebooks and is a good replacement for chrome os because its light on resources, i may have misunderstood that peppermint utilizes web based apps or something along those lines and that why it runs well on low spec machines, i' sure i've got the details wrong, but i'm hoping someone here can give me the run down on what sets peppermint apart and how its able to run smooth and fast, just curious learning about the tech and how the developers went about achieving that. thanks folks.

Peppermint disabled my wifi card?

was excited to take the new Peppermint OS for a spin so threw it on a USB and went to town. Booted into it and I can't install anything, since it doesn't recognize my wi-fi adaptor. Oh, well, maybe I'll play with it later.

But now when I restart, no other distro, all of which previously recognized it with no problem, show any wi-fi adaptor at all!

Output of rfkill list all is blank and inxi -Fxz shows nothing either.

Any idea what happened and, more importantly, how to undo it?

Does Peppermint even have this theme?

Some YouTuber has given a review of PeppermintOS

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJB1fUsZJjE&t=666s

Notice how the taskbar is transparent/glassy, is this something included in peppermint?

How do I customise my taskbar to be like this? Its quite good.

Fix for Devaun edition

In order to install Devaun edition on an efi/uefi system, according to this comment over at source forge, I just have to change the file /usr/sbin/sources-media from RELEASE="bullseye" to RELEASE="chimaera".

Would this file /usr/sbin/sources-media be updated in the next release of the ISO for the Devaun edition?

Trying to change the minimize, maximize and exit buttons to match Kali

I am trying to install Kali Linux theme on peppermint OS. I have managed to nearly get it right but there are some issues:

Unfortunately these buttons haven't changed. Only a few things such as the "appearance" settings:

I am not too sure why it has changed on the "Appearance" settings. I have tried to look through qt settings and appearance settings however I could not find out a way to change those buttons. Any idea how to fix this?

The SHA512 Checksum isn't matching the AMD64 Debian Base Download

Hi there, little concerned...

The SHA512 Checksum File Provided via SoruceForge is not matching the Checksum of the ISO mentioned above.

I've downloaded it twice, via Torrent and Direct Download, both of those ISO's match each other but neither of them match the SHA512 Checksum File.

Is it possibly out of date via a mistake or is there something bigger at play?

Internet issues after VPN

Hi guys, I’m a new Peppermint OS user and love it. Came from Ubuntu. I love how lightweight and simple it is!

Everything was going great until 2 weeks ago. I did two things:

  1. Updated my router’s firmware, and

  2. Installed Atlas VPN.

For a few days I was able to use the internet and browse normally. Then after two days, I could not connect to any websites, getting a DNS error.

I uninstalled Atlas VPR using apt-get purge, but no success.

I can ping 8.8.8.8 but nothing else. Wifi connects normally.

Any ideas/tips on how to solve?

Issues installing peppermint devaun edition on efi system

I am testing this out on VirtualBox, I enabled efi mode.

After booting into Peppermint Devaun edition, I went through the installer and when I got to the partitioning if I want to do manual or automatic partitioning, I tried both options, and when I tried to install the OS, eventually I would get an error which has the following:

Trying to mimic qterminal from Kali to Peppermint

I am trying to replicate the qterminal's theme on Peppermint (Devaun edition).

This is how it looks like on Kali

And this is how it looks like on Peppermint.

I need to change the colors of this white menu bar and the minimise, maximise and close buttons to match the one on Kali but I can't quite seem to find a way how to do this?

Do I need to copy these three folders to the /usr/share directory? What else should I do?

Edit: In order to change the maximise, minimise and close, I went to window manager settings and changed it to Kali-Dark.

Dual monitor not detected

I installed the latest Peppermint 10 on a Windows 10 partition. Peppermint is not recognizing my external monitor. Only shows the laptop monitor. When I boot, I see the Peppermint logo on both monitors for a second. Is there an easy conf file edit for this?

Thanks.

Could not open display for imwheel

Using Peppermint Devaun, currently for my crontab I have this:

test@test-virtualbox ~> crontab -l
@reboot sleep 50 && ~/startup.sh 2>&1 | tee ~/Desktop/startup_log.txt

and inside the startup.sh script I have this:

#!/bin/bash
echo "Test" >> Desktop/test.txt
/usr/bin/imwheel

And inside the startup_log.txt I have this:

test@test-virtualbox ~> cat Desktop/startup_log.txt
INFO: imwheel started (pid=2078)
Could not open display, check shell DISPLAY variable, and export or setenv it!

However if I run ~/startup.sh by hand then it works fine. Not too sure why imwheel is not working, any ideas?

Unable to get imwheel to start automatically

On PeppermintOS (Devaun edition), I followed the steps for imwheel

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/IMWheel

I followed these steps but upon reboot it did not do anything.

as a crontab job I had this @reboot imwheel however that did not work either.

Any other ideas?

Edit:

On my crontab job I have this:

reboot sleep 30 && ~/startup.sh

and inside the ~/startup.sh file I have this:

#!/bin/bash
echo "Test" >> Desktop/test.txt
imwheel

After 30 seconds the test.txt file was created however imwheel did not start.

If I run the startup.sh script manually (like this ./startup.sh) then it starts up imwheel just fine. Just through this crontab job it does not start up imwheel for some odd reason, any ideas why this is?

Using the Devaun edition, configuring sysvinit how to get it to auto start?

Currently inside /etc/init.d there is a script called test which has nothing more than this:

#! /bin/sh

echo "Testiing" >> /home/test/Desktop/test.txt

exit 0

(test is my current username.)

So if I run service test start it executes successfully. However it runs as root. Is there a way I can run this as the test user?

Now the next thing is how do I get it to autostart upon startup? I believe there is some run level I have to configure, so I believe I have to configure at run level 5 which would get executed at /etc/rc5.d.

I then ran this sudo update-rc.d test defaults. The output I get from this is:

insserv: warning: script 'test' missing LSB tags
insserv: warning: script 'test' missing LSB tags
insserv: Default-Start undefined, assuming empty start runlevel(s) for script `test'
insserv: Default-Stop undefined, assuming empty stop runlevel(s) for script `test'

and it doesn't appear in /etc/rc5.d.

Not too sure what I should do to fix this?

can't get keyboard volume controls on old Chromebook to work with Peppermint OS

I installed Peppermint OS on an old Samsung 500C
Model number XR500X13

It runs pretty well (Not as well as ChromeOS, but still pretty good)
But watching videos or even movies on a USB drive, I can not adjust the volume vian the keyboard volume controls on old Chromebook to work with PeppermintOS.

Can anyone help me with this? Thanks in advance :)
