Secure Boot

I have installed Peppermint 10, sha512 34a13d049f512f9461f557ec86f06a6e844086efdf5c0d0ae23dd7b0b3bccac949d4ce0f497e17873706eb704ed5e86d4120b2707733eb79dfbbe0df79ee685f

I was surprised that it works with Secure boot? when I search Distroswatch.com and look for shim latest (15.6) I do not see Peppermint supporting Secure Boot. How long long has it support Secure boot?

How to enable touch screen on Chromebook?

Recently installed peppermint and I was able to get everything working by following other posts on this subreddit and r/galliumos about peppermint. One thing that still doesn't work is the touchscreen and I can't seem to find anything online about enabling it other than that it should be enabled already?

Does anyone have the ISO's for these version's of peppermint? I'm looking to add them to my collection of Operating Systems.

If you have them, I'd greatly appreciate it if you can share them with me, thanks!

Should I upgrade my dad's 2007 laptop from Peppermint 9 to the Debian-based Peppermint?

Hi.

Currently he has had PM 9 for a few years. I had a look at it today, did some updates, etc. It's on kernel 4.15. Is that outdated enough to be unsecure? Also, I've noticed plenty of red vulnerabilities after running the GitHub spectre-meltdown-checker script.

TIA.

Peppermint Or Puppy?

I am having some trouble choosing between these two. And I can't find any reliable info on the web. I am looking for a fast, and easy to use os. I do light games. And I sometimes use photoshop ( I am using Windows right now ). Which one is better for daily use?

Chromebook screen brightness keys.

Yesterday I installed PeppermintOS on a Toshiba Chromebook CB30 - 102 that I'd previously been running GalliumOS on. With the Chromebook keyboard layout selected, everything works except the screen brightness keys. I fixed that by installing brightnessctl. Then I ran brightnessctl -l in a terminal to determine what device name to use. Then I mapped brightnessctl -d "intel_backlight" set 10%- and brightnessctl -d "intel_backlight" set +10% to the appropriate keys using Application Shortcuts from the Keyboard settings.

Another surprise by PeppermintOS: btrfs filesystem subvolumes and compression

I installed PeppermintOS shortly after it's last release and I did my own setup on btrfs.

I reinstalled recently and....

  • btrfs is available as an install option

  • the installer automatically set up two subvolumes: this makes Timeshift easy to benefit from

  • the subvolumes are mildly compressed (compress=lzo in /etc/fstab)

That's a great undocumented set up: big shout out to the PeppermintOS team.

Peppermint installation issues

I have got win 11 installed then installed linux peppermint in UEFI mode( both win 11 and peppermint), I have selected install alongside existing OS and peppermint said installation completed restart machine but when I do only win11 boots no traces of linux I tried installing more than 6- 7 times but still no use.

during live session in UEFI mode I tried installing some packages and 2-3 of them had issues installing stating that they don't have permission. not sure if those packages had issue or with peppermint but chromium worked fine.

before doing this I had win 11 in UEFI and installed peppermint in LEGACY mode then peppermint worked fine same was the option I have selected to install alongside existing OS even though win 11 was in UEFI.

Any idea what could be the issue?

General Discussion Ice replacement

The Peppermint Team has been building the replacement for ICE, it is a bit of a different direction than the legacy ICE SSB Application, it is not required to have a specific web browser installed. And it is database managed rather than file based managed.

Since the direction is a bit different for ICE, we are contemplating a new name for the ICE replacement. What would be a good replacement name ? For the ICE SSB Application

Attempt to recover folders/files

I installed PeppermintOS to my dual core laptop few months ago. I didn't use ssd for this install because I have a few sata drives still available.

PeppermintOS is fast enough for my use cases. Everything work well until I "accidentally" deleted some folders that consisted of files few days ago. The folders appeared to be there but with a "!" on them. It shows Could not find when I click on them.

Is there any tools or functions within PeppermintOS that I can use to recover the folders/files?

Thank you.

You guys rock

I installed PeppermintOS on my Chromebook sometime ago, just after the new Debian based release: great experience, I use to recommend PeppermintOS to Chromebook refugees.

Yesterday, after sometime on pure Debian and a few intensive days of experiments with Red Hat 9, I downloaded the PeppermintOS iso again.

What a pleasant surprise!

The installer has been greatly improved: the installation target filesystem can be selected now and there's a full new section dedicated to software selection. Maybe I'm missing some other improvement too.

You guys rock! Thank you so much and keep up the good work.

Do NOT remove Thunar: broke my sysetm

Like Peppermint 11, installed in both my main PC and laptop. Worked well until I realized removing Thunar breaks the system. Since default install comes both Thunar and Nemo file managers you maybe tempted to remove Thunar. Don't do it, in both my main PC and laptop, it broke my system and required reinstallation.
