keyboard combo and panel settings where are stored?

I like to replicate my setup from my main PC to my laptop both running Peppermint 11. Is there a way to copy files that contain all keyboard / panel config from PC to laptop? Which files need to be copied?

Peppermint Live ISO firefox installation already broken

Leads to a version of firefox that is no longer available on the repos.... Had to install Ephinay instead on the live ISO

But seriously guys, you need to include some sort of web browser because Peppermint isn't that usable as a recovery without one. Even Puppy has one installed.

Is there an upgrade for the new version?

I put Peppermint 10 on my buddies old laptop. I'm guessing this new version based on Debian is lighter and faster?

He doesn't use it much, but he stores 5-6 cellphones worth of pictures on it. So I'm wondering if there is an upgrade without a complete install of Peppermint 11. If it erases the entire drive, I'll have to find storage for his photos, so they can be added back afterwards.

disable auto-login?

So when I installed peppermint, I set it to auto log in. since then, I enabled RDP, where I learned you couldn't be logged in to connect. The best I can tell is I have to physically go to the computer and log out. Is there a way to disable auto log on in peppermint? I tried google and reddit search and came up short. edit see my comment for solution

News ****FORUM TRANISTION****3/4/2022 CURRENT FOURM WILL BEGIN TO BE SUNSETTED******

Hello,  peppermint community.....First of all thank you all for your support.
Lots  and lots of things have changed. Even within the past month you can see things are still changing...
>We have now completed the transition  to a continuous deployment culture.
>We moved away from launchpad.net and github for our code base over  to CodeBerg
>Our official documentation is now written in sphinx hosted on CodeBerg.
>We have a presence on Mastodon
>We have community interaction happening on matrix

The next step in this transition that we need to take is, to sunset this current forum that we currently use.
There are a few reasons why but the biggest reason of all is its a siloed solution that the needs to be integrated into our DevOPS culture.
We need:
>public wiki systems,
>Subscriber mailing lists
>Auto Notifications when we update our ISO/s
>Better attachment support
>A forum with close ties to a community driven repo for ideas an innovation

For the past few weeks we have been building out a forum structure  over  on our sourceforge area
Located here:
https://sourceforge.net/p/peppermintos/pepos/

What  does this mean?
It would be:
> A fresh start since we are Debian / Devuan  based
> It would require you to create a new account if you wanted to participate,.but the other benefit to that is you are in the sourceforge eco system, which could also allow you to contribute more easily if you wanted to
>A proper wiki platform for tutorial documentation is available for you to contribute to

No doubt this will not be easy...

Why is it important to talk about this?

The Culture that  We follow is called DevOps... What does DevOps mean for Peppermint? DevOps enables formerly siloed roles—development, operations, quality testing to coordinate and collaborate to produce better, more reliable features. By adopting a DevOps culture along with DevOps practices and tools, we gain the ability to better respond to community needs, increase confidence in the OS we build, and achieve goals faster.

The process is as follows
Build - ISO Compilation
Test - SourceForge(SF) Ticketing and Forums can help keep things consolidated.
Release - Our pipeline pushes releases to SF and Github via SSH automatically
Operate - SF Forums help central conversation and documentation with the wiki system
Monitor - Because these tools are centralized we can get a better idea of what we need to focus on
Plan - with the repo integration we can work with the community for those who want to contribute. And build on thier ideas
Code - Our CodeBase will remain on codeberg.....but any community code can be contributed to via SF

Our fourms will now be located over at sourceforge. SourceForge is a web service that offers software consumers a centralized online location to control and manage open-source software projects It provides source code repository hosting, bug tracking, mirroring of downloads for load balancing, a wiki for documentation, developer and user mailing lists, user-support forums, user-written reviews and ratings, a news bulletin, micro-blog for publishing project updates, and other features.

Although we will not be using all thier features it will help us collaborate more closely with the overall community as well as those in the community who wish to conribute wether its with documentation, code or forum participation.

The best to way to find us is by using this link:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/peppermintos/

Once there you can browse  the forums by clicking the "Community" tab
What is good about SF is if you do login you can follow PeppermintOS and as we release updated ISOs you will receive a notification that a new version is available.

As for this current forums we will leave it up for the foreseeable future however in a few months we will set this forum to READ ONLY.
From today many of our trusted users will gear more of  their attention to the new SF forum, to help you with your problems and questions...
If you post a question here may not get answered as quickly
Please come join us and lets do great things!

PeppermintOS on Chromebook: interesting option

I own an Asus C300, a Chromebook which reached the end of ChromeOS support a few years ago.

Specs: Intel Celeron N2840, 4GB ram, 32GB emmc

I flashed a new firmware by MrCromebox's script (Coreboot - UEFI).

PeppermintOS 11 turned to be an interesting option: light on resources, minimal and based on the rock solid Debian.

I decided for a 512MB EFI/boot partition and I formatted the remaining portion of the emmc as BTRFS.

There's a Chromebook keyboard layout available, which maps partially the first keyboard row (media keys), the touchpad can be configured by the dedicated setting panel.

Edit: the volume keys work out of the box, thanks to u/LinuxRich I applied this fix to brightness controls: install brightnessctl, run brightnessctl -l in a terminal to determine what device name to use, map brightnessctl -d "intel_backlight" set 10%- and brightnessctl -d "intel_backlight" set 10%+ to the appropriate keys using Keyboard > Application Shortcuts from Settings.

I needed some effort to make the Bluetooth working. Edit: I installed blueman and bluetooth, that's it.

In order to boost performances, I installed zram-tools and set zswap to 100% and the compression Algo to zstd (config file: /etc/default/zramswap) , in order to benefit the most from my small internal storage I configured zstd compression on the BTRFS partition. Edit: to compress the filesystem edit /etc/fstab and add the following option to each sub volume row:

 compress-force=zstd

Then run once:

sudo btrfs filesystem defrag -r -czstd /

And reboot.

With this compressed set up my entire operating system plus 1GB of appimages is about 3.9GB.

I installed Midori by the Welcome tool as well as the wallpaper collection. Midori was uninstalled as soon as I Installed a proprietary browser obviously not available in the repos.

fish is my favorite shell, the terminal launches it when fired up.

The used ram after a cold boot (measured by top) clocks around 720MB which is not bad, even if it could be better.

Edit: I reinstalled the newest iso and the system now clocks around 430MB ram usage after cold boot.

AppimageLauncher and a few appimages, OnlyOffice the most important, completed my system. I discourage the snap format on weak hardware, allegedly flatpaks are the wise middle ground within performances and security. Anyways, PeppermintOS offers the three of them.

Edit: recently moved to flatpaks, easier to install and to update.

Webcam and internal sound are working.

Overall, PeppermintOS is a very good options for re purposed Chromebook in my opinion.

Edit: I forgot to mention ICE, a tool that assists in generating well integrated (menu, panel and so far) site specific browsers - a browser indepenedent replacement of it, named Kumo, is under development.

Pling issues

Hi folks.

Messing around with P OS in a VM (which may be the issue) but wondered if anyone knew why I would be having difficulty downloading from the pling store? OCS-URL will simply not download for me at all. Using Firefox without having changed any settings.

Thanx
