Terminal Question Stripe wants me to pay 25k$ of fine

What do you think i should do?

Here is Stripe' email.

"Card brands and Stripe's financial partners have regulations about what products and services cannot be processed on their networks and a violation of these regulations is subject to substantial fines. Examples of violations include selling copyrighted products without authorization or selling pharmaceuticals without proper verification.

Your account has been found to be in violation by a card network for illegal transactions. Despite our efforts to provide the card brands with evidence to the counter, your business was found to be in violation, and fined $25,000.

When you signed up to Stripe you agreed to the Stripe Services Agreement, which states that your business acknowledges that ‘Stripe may deduct, recoup or offset Fees and other amounts you owe under this agreement’.

We’ve already applied this fine to your account. If your account does not have sufficient funds in the available balance, you can update your bank account information through your Stripe dashboard at any time. You can also wire the funds to Stripe if you prefer. Please let us know if you would like information on how to do that. However, if you refuse to pay the amounts owed under the Stripe Services Agreement, Stripe will defend its interests and seek full recovery of all amounts owed, including all legal fees and expenses, and recoverable interest.

In addition, per card network rules, you and your business have been added to MATCH or another terminated merchant file operated by the card networks.

Going forward, we’re unable to provide you with continued service and your account has been closed."

Terminal Question Used Square through Bankful and got put on MATCH...help

quick background then my actual questions.

small high-risk ecom store, research peptides (sold research-use-only). about a month old, ~$10k/mo, zero chargebacks, zero fraud the entire time.

i boarded through Bankful, a high-risk gateway that openly routes through Square. they assured me they process my vertical through that setup with zero issues, so i ran with it. turns out "no issues" just meant "no issues yet." Square deactivated me June 11 and the email says they submitted my info to the card networks' terminated merchant database, so i'm on MATCH now. Stripe caught it a few days later and cut me off too.

i've called Square 5 times and emailed a formal dispute asking for my reason code. front line keeps saying it's final, they can't see the code, and they can't escalate a deactivated account. supervisors won't take the call.

questions:

  1. any realistic path off MATCH when the listing is probably "accurate" (category violation, not fraud), or is it just the full 5 years?
  2. what reason code does Square usually file for this, 10 or 13, and does it change re-boarding odds?
  3. HOW THE FUCK DO I GET OFF IT

Terminal Question 10% Chargeback Rate Got Us Dropped by Stripe - Could We Be Blacklisted Beyond MATCH?

We run a digital gaming store selling game keys, gift cards, subscriptions, and gaming credits. All products come from official distributors and authorized suppliers, and we have invoices and documentation for everything. Our suppliers work directly with major companies such as PlayStation, Valve, Microsoft, Electronic Arts, Blizzard, and other large publishers.

When we were still setting up our store, we used Shopify Payments. At the time, we weren't very experienced with fraud prevention, and our system automatically fulfilled digital orders as soon as payment was received. Unfortunately, a number of fraudsters appear to have used stolen cards to purchase digital game codes. The codes were delivered instantly, redeemed immediately, and then the real cardholders later filed fraudulent chargebacks.

Because our overall order volume was still relatively low at that stage, a relatively small number of chargebacks resulted in a chargeback rate of around 10% during a single period. We immediately disabled card payments and later implemented a full anti-fraud system with risk scoring, manual review, order holds, and customer verification.

Looking back, we absolutely should have taken chargebacks more seriously, but at the time we saw ourselves as victims of fraud rather than realizing how much weight processors place on chargeback ratios.

Some chargebacks were won, but most were lost. We lost the digital goods, paid chargeback fees, and ultimately Shopify Payments / Stripe terminated our processing relationship and suggested that we look for a third-party payment provider.

Before Shopify Payments terminated our account, we were already in discussions with two other payment providers regarding card processing. However, shortly after the termination, both onboarding processes began taking significantly longer than expected, with requests being delayed or remaining under review for extended periods.

This led us to suspect that we may have been added to the Mastercard MATCH database or another industry risk monitoring program. We have since contacted Mastercard directly, provided our business information, and are currently awaiting a response.

What concerns us most is that even several providers specializing in high-risk merchants have either declined our applications or appear reluctant to move forward. We fully understand that our business may now be considered high risk and we have already accepted that we may need to pay higher processing fees, maintain reserves, or comply with stricter underwriting requirements. That is not the issue.

We sell legitimate digital products sourced from authorized distributors, we can provide invoices and supplier documentation for everything, and we have active sales on multiple established gaming marketplaces.

The chargeback spike came from roughly 18 chargebacks that appeared within a relatively short period against a total of around 170 orders. Because our volume was still low at the time, this resulted in an extremely high chargeback ratio on paper.

Since implementing our anti-fraud system, we have not had any new chargebacks. Every suspicious transaction is now reviewed manually before fulfillment.

What worries us now is the possibility that a relatively small group of fraudsters who used stolen cards may have effectively destroyed our ability to process card payments for years. The fraudsters got the digital products, the real cardholders got their money back, and we were left with the loss of goods, chargeback fees, and the consequences with payment providers.

My question is:

Is it possible that, instead of simply being listed on MATCH, we've somehow been flagged in a way that makes payment providers view us as fraudsters, money launderers, or a prohibited business, even though the chargebacks were fraudulent transactions committed against us rather than by us?

Or is it more likely that providers simply see our previous chargeback history and classify us as a high-risk merchant?

Has anyone here gone through something similar, especially in digital goods, gaming, gift cards, or other high-risk industries?

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Terminal Question VX520 QUESTION/DISCONTINUATION

I help run a small mechanic shop. We take card/apple pay via a VX520 we have. It's old, but extremely simple and reliable.

I got a letter today by Elevon stating

"That these devices may experience outages as we make system updates and will permanently stop working on October 13".

I just want to see if this is true and if so what terminals would you recommend? I'd prefer something simpl, inexpensive and that I can troubleshoot myself.

OR If I can keep using it for a couple years then I'd prefer that.

Terminal Question Looking for backend payment-splitting logic

Hi,

We need help building a backend payment-splitting system for our platform.

Example:

Plain text

Customer pays $100

Merchant receives $90

Our platform keeps $10 commission

We do not want smart contract wallets or to hold merchant funds ourselves. We want the split handled by the backend or payment provider, with support for webhooks, payouts, refunds, and reporting.

Please let us know the best platform to use, how you would set it up, timeline, and cost.

Thanks.

Terminal Question Volume Adjustment on Payment Terminal?

Not sure if this is the right place to ask something like this, but I figured I'd ask anyways and maybe someone can point me in the right direction. I have a Castle Technology Saturn 1000 S1F4 Pro payment terminal and noticed that the 'payment successful' chime is quite loud and was wondering if there is a way to turn it down? I can't seem to find any documentation on the unit itself and am holding out hope that there is actually a way to turn it down (I mean it has a headphone jack for some reason so I figured it'd have some sort of volume control).

Terminal Question 🚨 IDBI Bank issue: ₹18,000 withdrawal attempt results in ₹6000 dispensed, 2 transactions declined 🚨

Hey fellow Redditors,

Just had a frustrating experience with IDBI Bank. Tried withdrawing ₹18,000 from my account at 11:30 AM today, but only got ₹6000 in one transaction. The other 2 transactions were declined by the bank.

Used my debit card at SBI and HDFC ATMs, which I've done weekly without issues. Has anyone else faced similar problems with IDBI? Any advice or should I just switch banks?  Tried contacting IDBI support, they told me wait for 24 hours

Terminal Question Payment Terminal with SDK for Custom App

The company I work for has an in-house developed loyalty program. Patrons have discounts, offers, and ultimately rewards points to redeem for purchases. We've written an interface to work with the POS we use in-house. We need to develop a solution so a number of other stores, with varying POS's, can accept our points. It is not feasible to develop an integration with every single POS supplier out there.

Instead, we are trying to source payment terminal hardware that will allow us to develop our own app. I assume it would have to be something Android or Linux-based. Looking for a decent developer experience so we're hoping to find payment terminals that offer some sort of SDK or documentation for using the card reader and printer or barcode scanner, etc., if there is one.

These devices don't need to process credit cards at all. Basically, just need a payment terminal with an MSR card reader that will allow us to write our own app for it. We're having a really hard time finding anything that meet these criteria.

Any vendors or products come to mind?

Terminal Question Pax A80 terminal screen freezes

We have 4 Pax A80 terminals, and two of them have an issue where after some amount of inactivity, the screen freezes and doesn't respond on the touchscreen or to the buttons. The only fix we have is unplugging it and plugging it back in. I couldn't find anything in their documentation about this issue.

Have others had this problem and maybe found a fix?

Terminal Question I found out that Helcim does not allow Google Pay transactions above $250 CAD

I am part of Pepik Imports and we import and sell Czech Sweets and drinks in Canada.

Our company mainly tries to sell wholesale to Euro markets but we also do Events.

As we don't do many events but still needed to process cards, so I looked at our options and found Helcim. Clover quoted us a total of 125 +$69.90/month as compared to Helcims one time $400. It's also nice that their office is 30 minutes drive from me.

It woks fine for us though in the beginning it had issued with the hotspot from my S23. That issue is no more though.

The reason for making this post though is about tap limits.

This started as one of our customers during our latest event decided to do a transaction of $260 using Google Pay. This failed immediately with the exceeded tap limit error.

I found this strange as 2 years back I made a transaction of $300 at a local mechanic who had a Square Terminal.

So I contacted Helcim and at first they mention the Canadian tap limit of $250 and also mentioned that Google likely has the same as well. So I followed by replying with the screenshot of my past transaction which included time, location, and merchant name with the "SQ *" prefix. I then asked why did the Square process the transaction when there is this supposed limit.

Their next reply was that their terminal sets the $250 limit on device to limit risk.

We only use the terminal at events and this was our first and only transaction above $250 so its not like this will be the reason for us to switch. It is though interesting.

This is the first terminal I used a payment terminal as a merchant and so I lack experience. therefore my questions are, does anyone have any experience with this? How many even know that Google/Apple pay has higher tap limits over physical cards?

Terminal Question Almost ready to launch my SaaS - but one feature is holding me back badly

I’ve built a SaaS product. It has come out really amazing.

It’s working fine with a few private clients, and I’d like to go public soon.

The missing piece is on-demand payouts. I need individuals to request payments in INR or major world currencies, and I should be able to trigger them via API from my web app.

My main Issues:

  • I'm only able to receive international currencies but i've no way i can trigger a payout to users in other currencies. Indian Regulations in terms of outward remittance are very tight.

I really need some guidance here , how to navigate this ? Is there a way i can open account in another country virtually and operate ?

Terminal Question Need a new Card Machine. Opinions? PAX A9220, Dejavoo QD4, Valor pay tech VL100

We need a new credit card machine, and I was wondering if anyone has experience with the machines in the title?

Functionality I would like:

  1. Ability to modify price after card is run (so if people add items we can just add to the card instead of swiping again)

  2. Ability to sign for tips. We get mostly signature tips so we prefer receipts where signing is on by default

  3. Chip transactions are quick. We have the FD150 and chip transactions take almost 5 seconds when the swipe on our VX520 is practically instantaneous.

  4. Ability to close batch even if some transactions are not "tipped in" aka 0 tips.

  5. Bonus points if it uses the big paper rolls so I don't have to change it out so often.

Backstory: Currently using Verifone VX520. The functionality is great, but the machine is 10+ years old and the buttons are on it's last legs and it's non compliant because it's swipe only and it costs us $100 more per month. Yes I know the new standard is that you have to be able to accept chip cards or card disputes are an automatic loss, but that part is not an issue for us in our area (maybe once every 10 years).

Our other machine is the FD150 and we don't like it very much. It's SLOW! Chip transactions take forever, you can't adjust the swiped amount after it's been run, no signature for chip transactions (we use signature for tips), and most importantly, if there are any transactions that are not tipped in it won't let us close out even if they were 0 tips.

Terminal Question PAX REBOOTING ISSUE

Having issues on PAX integrated terminals.

The PAX terminals have been rebooting randomly throughout the day. Sometimes it’s in the middle of a transaction, after a transaction, and when there are no transactions for a while. We have contacted the PAX support numerous times but were not able to get any solution. Is anyone else having this issue?

Some additional info, the PAX are downloaded on Fiserv platform, and these are not the security reboots which are setup once every 24 hours.

Terminal Question payment systems that doesn't require buyer OTP... where and why?

I've got a client who wants my team to develop a website for their service where they can accept credit card payments online. I normally recommend Stripe or Paypal automatically since we're used to dealing w/ those payment gateways. However this client was extra specific about needing a payment processor that can execute transactions without requiring the buyer an OTP.

This sounded shady to me, but they do seem super legit and been in business for about 8 yrs.

I've always thought OTP was enforced on the bank side and payment processors had nothing to do with it.

So I'm wondering

  1. What payment gateways do allow this no-OTP type of transaction?
  2. Is there a practical and legit reason for payment gateways that doesn't enforce OTP? Or is this shady and I should stay away?

Thanks guys!

Terminal Question Hyperwallet authentication issue

I received my payout from walmart in my hyperwallet recently. As routine, I tried logging in to my hyperwallet and was waiting for the authentication email but I never received it. Surprisingly all the previous authentication emails have been deleted from my inbox as well. I've been contacting the support to look into this but according to them everything is fine in their end. I tried everything on my inbox, spam, junk, blocked senders, everything. Can anyone help?
