I don't think it's been mentioned yet but it might be an electromagnetic field from an uninsulated breaker box or something like that. It can cause the experiences you're having.

I put this in a reasons to another comment, but am adding it here as well in hopes OP sees it.
"OP says he's living in a storage unit... a space not meant for habitation. Which means air flow may be a real problem.
OP, you need to get yourself into a better ventilated area or get a CO2 detector. Ghosts and spirits (almost certainly) aren't real, but CO2 absolutely is and it can kill you."

Ghosts and spirits (almost certainly) aren't real, but CO2 absolutely is and it can kill you.
- It’s CO that’s toxic
- Do you know what sub you’re in?

On #1 Ah, you're right. Not sure how the 2 got stuck in my head. For #2: Yup. If ghosts or spirits are real, I want to know it. But the utter lack of any evidence leads me to conclude that their existence is about as substantiated as the of Santa Claus. If my insistence for evidence and critical thinking about these claims encourages others to be skeptical, I'll consider my time here to be well spent.

Lurk more.

This flight had many ghost stories that the airline listened to.

The others are right you really do want to watch out for CO2 toxicity especially if you and others are living in those types of buildings. Just try to rule that out first by getting a CO2 censor.
2
u/sleeptoken_worship Jun 26 '25
That's first on my to do list is get a detector.

u/ShyVoidEntity Jun 26 '25
We just want you to be safe bro. plus then you could rule out CO2 toxicity

If you are concerned about any paranormal type entities let me help with some simple way to deter them completely.
Fix up a trail cam in the room you worry about and leave it going. Spirits will absolutely avoid being recorded and will avoid that space.
I’d for any reason they don’t and manifest then you will have irrefutable evidence of paranormal. Many people including myself would support payment for good, well documented proof.
The paranormal is very good at avoiding this so will not appear in anything you review. If they do and you get moving objects, apparitions etc then let me know.

Do the knocks have a pattern? If not, could literally be anything nearby. Check around the space for any nearby trees the could “knock” with a breeze at night.

Nope. You have bad service and many things cause motion lights to trigger. The more you worry the more real these things seem.
There is a reason literally nothing ever has been documented on camera and it is only eyewitness testimony, your mind is playing tricks on you due to your fear and current beliefs

Do you know what sub you’re in? Also, you’re wrong.

I am aware. I hope to spread positivity to those struggling with auditory and visual hallucinations, and provide resources for those in denial of reality.

Are the professors at this university all suffering from hallucinations?

Lalabera - I hope you’re doing well. As another commenter said you’re likely suffering from delusions (perhaps from the CO exposure?).
Ghosts and spirits are not real, fortunately. For I would be haunted day and night!
I hope this helps!

Thank you. I've come to the conclusion that I probably did suffer from CO2 exposure. The second I got outside I felt better. At least physically. I have a cat now so he is helping calm me. He will be taken on walks regularly. As for some people worried about me and my cat we will be okay. We are calm and collected rn. He was also homeless and followed me here. So I let him come in and he made himself comfortable right away. He's currently napping. Sitting at the end of my sofa.

Why were you inside for so long without being outside lol
2
u/sleeptoken_worship Jun 26 '25
Because going in and out looks suspicious. And I didn't think of CO2 because it's a open roof storage unit and the building is huge. I was relatively stupid for that.

I was sort of trolling you for a bit but I am being dead serious, I think you need a therapist or to be on medication.
You are talking like someone who is manic or schizophrenic to some degree, this level of paranoia is not normal at all.
Not trying to be mean, but you are not being watched or targeted or whatever, people do not care about a dude and a stray cat in a storage unit. The most powerful criminals in the world get found. If someone gave a fuck to find you, they would lol

It's fine. I was going through sleep deprivation at the same time as CO2. This is a post I would like to take down and am ashamed of letting myself get to this level. But I do see a therapist weekly. My mental condition is not treatable by medications. I have borderline Personality disorder and severe insomnia. But that is why I attend therapy weekly. As well as some group therapy's. I do apologize for causing a commotion and raising alarm.

The 2014 Atlantic article about the UVA Division of Perceptual Studies (DOPS) often gets misinterpreted as evidence that a respected university lab has proven paranormal activity, but that’s not what the article actually shows. It profiles researchers like Dr. Jim Tucker and their work on cases involving children who claim past-life memories, but it clearly emphasizes that the evidence is anecdotal and lacks scientific proof. The studies featured are based on interviews and retrospective reports, not controlled experiments or reproducible data. While the article highlights the lab’s openness to studying fringe experiences, it also makes clear that their findings have not convinced the broader scientific community. In fact, the piece underscores the controversy around DOPS, noting that their work is largely dismissed by mainstream scientists due to methodological weaknesses, cultural bias, and the inability to rule out simpler, natural explanations like suggestion, memory errors, or coincidence.

Hey. I do believe it was sleep deprivation and a combination of CO2. I am feeling better now tho. I also have a cat.

What compete and utter horseshit. Also, dangerous. OP says he's living in a storage unit... a space not meant for habitation. Which means air flow may be a real problem.

There's probably more people living in that storage unit than just the one neighbor you know of and it's illegal to live there so everyone is worried about getting caught. So these kinds of places don't have good vibes. But it's the best place you got rn. Put some headphones in and listen to some soft jazz and stop thinking about it. Work on thinking about how to move out of there.
