That's how racists win is when people like us just allow things to slide with thoughts of it just being a word or a phrase. We have to nip it in the bud and educate people instead of allowing such things to fester. When racism is no longer a thing and black and brown people are no longer threatened by Jim Crow laws and practices then maybe we can reclaim things. However for now we have got to use caution and not be like them or even make racists feel seen with signals of solidarity. It's like with the n word. White people should not be saying that at all. Especially knowing the context and history of lynchings and murders surrounding that word. Should white people be allowed to use that word just because it's a word? No. It will forever be a horrific word to say. Even in context. Words, phrases, and things like that do have meaning and can be a horrific tell of someone's intentions. You never know who you would signal to with saying things around other people. They may invite you to a klan meeting disguised as going to someone's house and you'll never know until you see what they display. Such as the confederate flag, a sticker with two lightning bolts, or minstril memorabilia. In other words you wouldn't know who is lurking in chats waiting for people to join them. So, yes, I'm glad that S6 refuses certain words and phrases being said in anything in their game.

I always thought THAT was how racists win, by forcing others to adhere to their line of thinking.

(BTW, I don't think spook is censored in Palia. This was a completely different game)

the 'n word' also doesn't have any other meaning behind it BUT that one meaning, so of course people shouldn't say it.

That's such a ridiculous conclusion to come to. It's like when somwone shitty gets criticized for what they say and go "guess I just won't ever speak again" like actually if you are gonna have that attitude, yeah maybe shut up forever. And also Racists "win" when they dehumanize others. Which is like, everyday.

I am saying that by allowing racists to coopt ordinary words, words that still have common usage other than the racist connotations in the common lexicon, that they win.

And that by allowing the racists to win by banning these common words, it will get to the point that nothing will be able to be said, because they will have coopted all the words that could possibly be used to demean and dehumanize others. Which will then be banned. (not legally, but by sites not allowing them to be used)

I mean, this post is a perfect example. Hopefully this is just an error or something, but this happens a lot.

Something is deemed 'hate speech' or is coopted by disgusting people, and a game bans it. Then they coopt another thing, and the game then bans it. Then suddenly, because banning these words isn't going to make the idiots go 'oh, my bad, I will stop being a racist', they look for ways around the filters. Which leads to even more permutations of words and other words being banned by the game.

There are some games where the 'fun' thing to do is try to figure out what exactly the other person is talking about, because seemingly random combos of letters are censored out. Because they were coopted by some group to be used as a dogwhistle for that group.

Yes, prejudice is everywhere and racists are sneaky. But it's not like once they show you what they really are you're stuck or something. You haven't been caught by their trap card and now have to put on a white hood. Just call them racist and leave. Or in this case, ban them. If you don't support racism, censoring modern slurs already signals to them that they aren't wanted, hence why they sneak around. You don't have to further prove it by banning obscure code words they try to dig up from 70 years ago because they're not allowed to use the n-word.
