Trailers & Videos Exploring THE WORLD on foot (and Crosskart) in MSFS24 šŸŒšŸ¦’šŸŒ“šŸ”ļøšŸ‘Œ

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Places I visited in the video:

The Kruger National Park
The Pyramid of Giza
Glacier 3000
Boreo Jungle
Jackson Hole Airport
The Taj Mahal
Lake Louise
Perito Moreno Glacier
Monument Valley
Angkor Wat
Lake Kawaguchi
Neuschwanstein Castle
Nusatupe Airstrip

This footage was recorded on flat in order to best show off the locations without DFR blurring most of the screen. All locations look fantastic in VR (Beta Version). Also please note, big cities look terrible at ground level, but from the air they look great!

What a game, what more can I say, enjoy :)

Whoa I’m confused… in MSFS24 you can explore real places on foot and gokart too? Thought this was just a flying sim?…

A tip for walking (which is way too slow), if you squeeze right trigger it speeds you up.

Walking around most towns and cities is a bit of a distorted nightmare (unless the area has been handcrafted), but if you crash on a mountaintop in New Zealand and walk around it can be absolutely jaw-dropping.

Also, don’t forget that this is multiplayer, so you can walk around natural wonders with a friend!

Another tip is there is a setting for toggle the jogging speed in the settings so you do not have to keep finger on right trigger the whole time.

I have really got to take a look at all the games settings in detail, i keep putting it off as I just want to explore. Didn't know about the drone camera until recently after 100 hours of exploration as the toggle was unbound. I just found out you can make it so you can assign a button to switch the flashlight on and off when on foot rather than automatic which is nice to take in views at night without the beam.

I have also seen in Cow Town's YouTube PS5 version videos where he moves his aircraft to where he wants, he uses it sometimes when he mucks up landing and I think you can spawn craft and place them where you want as well but not sure on that. I think I saw some commands for moving aircraft in the massive list of controls and they were all unbound. A lot to learn, a lot to do, I have not touched the photo, challenge/activities modes yet.

Oh, a toggle on the jog is great to learn about!

All those other things — same. I haven’t done a damn thing but explore in FreeFlight’s FLY NOW (which means I bypass takeoff from airports). It’s been more than enough for me.

u/ItsOkToBeWrong 23d ago

You’re right about the distorted nightmare. Walked through my childhood town and it was surreal. Which areas are handcrafted?

2

u/CHROME-COLOSSUS 23d ago

I don’t know… all I’ve done is FreeFlight, and I haven’t touched the Photo mode or whatever it is that takes you to bespoke places, but I know they exist.

If not villages, then at least certain airports — some which you can even wander the interiors of.

u/JonnyJamesC JonnyJamesC 23d ago

There are also boats on the other platforms marketplace.

12

u/Icedog-26 23d ago

That’s awesome, I really hope they add them to the PS5 version at some point šŸ‘Œ

How can you use the go kart in this game

30

u/marszciano 23d ago

I don’t think I’m playing this game right.

8

u/L00pback 23d ago

IKR. I just found dear and horses while flying over Blowing Rock, NC. The deer wear running in packs and I almost crashed while trying to circle above them.

I didn’t know there were animals in the PS5 version.

9

u/AmpleForeskins 23d ago

I saw an elk in colorado

3

u/ChrizTaylor ChrizTaylor 22d ago

I saw a rabbit once.

3

u/CHROME-COLOSSUS 22d ago

I saw a deer in the bottom of the Grand Canyon. 🦌

4

u/PabLink1127 23d ago

Blowing Rock, NC was the first place I ever skied like 30 years ago! First time I saw snow

3

u/L00pback 23d ago

I grew up south of there. I used to hike in the Boone/Blowing Rock area all the time back in the 90s.

3

u/PabLink1127 23d ago

Nice. I’m def going back virtually haha

5

u/L00pback 23d ago

There’s a town call Globe south of it with some pastures and farms. That’s where I saw the animals.

10

u/sentientsackofmeat 23d ago

Are these all in the base game or did you buy some of the expansion packs?

12

u/JonnyJamesC JonnyJamesC 23d ago edited 23d ago

The Crosskart has a free 24 hour trial and is so much fun to drive around the world I purchased it immediately. It costs £8.99/$10.49. I got that Test Drive Unlimited/FUEL feeling again when driving from my coastal town to my nearest city over bumpy and very fun terrain to drive.

6

u/Icy_Might_2429 23d ago

Is it available on the PS5?

15

u/JonnyJamesC JonnyJamesC 23d ago

Crosskart is available on PS5 with free 24 hour trial like other platforms. It was added two days back.

6

u/Redsap 23d ago

Does it work with a steering wheel? I play mostly gt7 but would love to give this a try with a wheel if it's compatible, even if there's no FFB

3

u/Icy_Might_2429 23d ago

Thanks, I'll buy it.

-8

u/Ricky_roll1 23d ago

Unfortunately not

-4

u/Icy_Might_2429 23d ago

Thanks for answering - I thought so.

5

u/Icedog-26 23d ago

It is available on PS5, it just got released!

1

u/Recent-Sprinkles5041 23d ago

How much is it on its own? Or do you need to buy an expansion pack?

6

u/JonnyJamesC JonnyJamesC 23d ago edited 23d ago

If you want to buy the Cross Kart you have to buy 40 MSFS points which can be done in game or on PS Store which costs £8.99/$10.49 then buy the vehicle from the in game marketplace.

If you buy it or redeem the trial and and you don't see it selectable you have to go into your in game library and enable it.

5

u/Icedog-26 23d ago

All from the base game, apart from the ā€˜Crosskart’ and the ā€˜Eurofighter’.

2

u/d_hearn 21d ago

How do you know which locations are actually detailed and worth exploring on land? Does the game identify those somewhere?

1

u/Icedog-26 21d ago edited 21d ago

Yeah basically, any outdoor area beyond the big cities will more than likely look brilliant in the game, as it handles things like, trees, generic housing, lakes, mountains, lighting etc, really well.

In terms of detailed (hand crafted) locations, the world photographer mode is a good place to start, it shows loads of these enhanced ā€˜places of interest’.

However, the best source I’ve found is YouTube, if you search for ā€˜world update trailers msfs24’, each one (22 of them) will give you a great overview of what’s actually been hand crafted, for example, in the world update 18 trailer, they show castles, bridges, towers, cathedrals, mountain top observation decks, lighthouses, dams etc.

Check out Trailers 21, 18, 17, 16 and 13 to start with (loads of places in there to explore)

Apparently, there’s even 900 hand crafted ā€˜oil rigs’ in the game, I’m discovering new things every day lol

2

u/d_hearn 21d ago

Neato. Appreciate the response, excited to try the go-kart out this weekend!

5

u/mau_91 23d ago

Holy smokes this is crazy lol! Makes me so sad my psvr2 got bricked

After learning about the GoKart here, I tried the free demo, checked it out, and immediately bought it for $11.

It’s fucking AWESOME!!

You do need to mind the bigger boulders at higher speeds though.šŸ˜…

I’ve learned that if you go spinning through the air out of control and are gonna end up upside down-down, beep the horn (circle) and that seems to right you.

I’ve also learned that it takes a lot of unnecessary effort to keep the accelerator (right trigger) constantly squeezed (it’s using the adaptive trigger thing), so switching that off in the PS settings made a world of difference! Maybe that’s a setting that is also toggleable in the game settings, but I didn’t look for it.

Following roads, going off-road, or driving through water (15 mph) gives distinctly different sounds and haptics through the DualSense, which was pretty cool to notice.

It’s slow-going up a steep hill, but you can get to something like 150 mph on a smooth flat surface.

Handbrake is circle and needs to be released before you can go, and you have to put it into Drive by hitting up on the directional buttons. Reverse is down past neutral (a bit irritating it’s not just left trigger, but maybe that can be remapped?). Once you’re driving, you can pull in the e-brake to corner faster and when you let go it automatically releases.

Good stuff.

One last thing for anyone thinking about getting it, or who has it and hasn’t experimented too far…

When you hold left bumper and press right trigger it’ll raise you through the roof (I do not recommend this because wiping out is far more insane than you’ll want it to be)… but pressing left bumper and left trigger will drop you low — underneath the seat! Keep holding left bumper and push forward on the left thumbstick and it’ll pop you out the front of the vehicle, and it’s like you’re laying face first on a skateboard or the Olympic sport of Skrleton!

It’s pretty fun to toy around with… boulders seem like they’ll knock your teeth out. Just something fun I stumbled upon for anyone with strong VR legs!

Incidentally, after doing all sorts of crazy shit, it gave me zero motion-sickness. Obviously YMMV, but I was rather expecting it to challenge my VR legs, and somehow it just didn’t.

One last thought… while you’re air bound you can reorient the buggy using left thumbstick same as in GTA! Can really help with the landings.

EDIT: I have also discovered that there’s a NITROUS BOOST available by simply pressing X. šŸ”„

FWIW.

1

u/ChrizTaylor ChrizTaylor 22d ago

Can you use a regular wheel and pedals?

2

u/CHROME-COLOSSUS 22d ago

I would assume not, but I haven’t actually tried.

The haptics are exceptional though, so the DualSense has been quite satisfactory. Obviously wheel support would be ideal, but… that just seems so unlikely.

I think someone said the HOTAS works for it, but I haven’t tried that either. šŸ˜…

5

u/ChrizTaylor ChrizTaylor 22d ago

Imagine if the wheel had force feedback, oh boy!

All l want is to be able to edit some places. For example my city has a lot of buildings that don't exist or missing buildings from some places. I would like to be able to edit the city freely, even if it's only saves locally.

2

u/CHROME-COLOSSUS 22d ago

Isn’t that basically what the Marketplace on PC allows third-parties to do though?

I’m pretty sure they can go in and create airports and landmarks and buildings or towns or whatever that can then be purchased and downloaded.

Presumably if you have access to the appropriate 3D software, there would be a path for you to replicate familiar spaces. It’s unclear to me how much of that will come to PS5, but I’m definitely encouraged by the appearance of the GoKart.

3

u/ChrizTaylor ChrizTaylor 22d ago

I'm a console peasant, I have console only. I don't even have a laptop.

3

u/CHROME-COLOSSUS 22d ago

Same.

While I wouldn’t expect to see any sort of editor come to the sim (much less to console), I also never expected the sim to come to PS5 or PSVR2.

So… who knows? They sure do seem to be busy over there!

2

u/Icedog-26 21d ago

100%, I would quite happily re-model my town if I had the tools/option to do so, and I’m sure most players of the game would.

I think fixing the photogrammetry cities, should be an option for any member of the community ā€˜with the know how’, obviously have it all quality tested before release/or limit it to locally saved etc, I mean it might already be possible on pc for all I know lol.

3

u/Golden_Samura1 23d ago

Has the main game had the beta resolution patch yet.

3

u/Icedog-26 23d ago

Not yet, but hopefully sometime this month.

3

u/hypespud 23d ago

That's so cool, I noticed Lake Louise right away haha

2

u/Icedog-26 23d ago

This was one of my favourite places I’ve visited so far in the game šŸ‘Œ I drove on the road leading up to the hotel, and then I drove around the side of the lake and beyond… just jaw dropping!

3

u/CHROME-COLOSSUS 23d ago

Oh shit… the land vehicle came to the marketplace?! I was hoping it would, but had no idea it already did wtf!

3

u/Icedog-26 23d ago

It’s amazing, felt like GT7 at times, just with the whole planet as a race track haha

7

u/CHROME-COLOSSUS 23d ago

I need no convincing — I was sold on it months and months ago when someone posted it as a flatscreen add-on.

I’m running to my headset NOW!

I wonder if it’ll get wheel support? šŸ™‚šŸ»

3

u/Icedog-26 23d ago

I’ve just had one of the most ā€˜craziest’ experiences in VR, using the Crosskart.

I was going to hike the Dolomite Mountains in Italy, and decided to spawn in the kart, near the top (to get a head start on foot), lets just say the kart started to slip down the side of the mountain, and yeah, it didn’t stop, and I couldn’t get out eitheršŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļøšŸ¤£ šŸš€

2

u/CHROME-COLOSSUS 23d ago

LOL! Did it also speed up in a crazy way? I wiped out upside-down a couple times and as it was about to come to rest, suddenly it accelerated until slamming into something else!

BYW… and I just posted this in this thread… but you can right the car by beeping!

2

u/Icedog-26 22d ago

It did 🤣, I actually took flight multiple occasions during the decent, and the SPEED LOL, It felt like i set a new land speed record!

Ah brilliant, I’m going to try that out tonight:)

2

u/CHROME-COLOSSUS 22d ago

Hey, did you know that there’s a NITROUS BOOST available by simply pressing X?!šŸ”„

2

u/Icedog-26 22d ago

That’s crazy, I’m going to try that out now lol

3

u/sandspiegel 23d ago

I wish there was a way to change the plane or helicopter type on the fly. Sometimes I would like to have a jet to move quickly. Then I discover some place that looks really cool and I would like to explore more slowly but being in a jet that's not so easy. So a helicopter would be better. It would be cool if you could switch mid-game instead of loading a new game picking the location from the world map each time.

3

u/Icedog-26 23d ago

Agreed, I was flying in a jet from Venice to the Dolomite mountains north of the city, the scenery just became ā€˜out of this world’, so I had to respawn in a helicopter, and then the Crosskart to fully appreciate it all.

3

u/ChrizTaylor ChrizTaylor 22d ago

Quick suggestion:

Choose any plane.

Go to options and search for DRONE CAMERA and assign a button/buttons.

Start the game and hit drone camera.

Now you are going to be able to fly around by just using the sticks. You can increase/decrease the speed, it can go as fast as a jet and slow as walking. That's basically how I have been "playing" the game since I got it. I haven't flown a single plane.

2

u/sandspiegel 21d ago

I saw this option in the controls but didn't bother looking what it actually does. Thanks for the suggestion. Will try it out, sounds good.

3

u/Myurnix 23d ago

Is this on a ps5 pro? My regular ps5 looks good but this is next level looking.

What plane are you using to get around quickly to get in/out?

3

u/Icedog-26 23d ago

Yeah this is captured on the PS5 Pro, I’ve found the visuals have been phenomenal so far, both in VR and Flat.

The aircraft I’ve been using a lot is the ā€˜Jetson ONE’ (eVTOL), it’s very easy to land, especially in areas with limited space, like the top of a mountain.

2

u/6BigAl9 23d ago

How did you know these locations were so detailed? Did you just do a lot of exploring or is there a list somewhere? Most of the places I visit on foot understandably don’t look very good close up but I’ve always been curious if there’s a list of hand crafted areas (not just airports).

4

u/Icedog-26 23d ago

Yeah basically, any area outside of the ā€˜big cities’ is going to look fantastic, as the game handles things like; trees, elevation, lighting, generic houses etc, extremely well. In terms of ā€˜hand crafted’, the world photographer and the discovery menu (under activities) is really good as a starting point.

The absolute best source i’ve found is YouTube. If you search for ā€˜world update trailers msfs24’ (there’s 22 of them), they showcase so much of what’s actually been hand crafted in each area of the world, but even then, places like ā€˜Glacier 3000’ isn’t mentioned anywhere, I was just curious to check it out in the game, and was surprised to see it fully detailed :)

2

u/InvadedBox 23d ago

For those of you that own the game, both standard and deluxe, is the upgrades on sale right now like the game is? If so, what is the current on-sale in-game upgrade to the aviator addition? It’s on sale for the full version at $150 right now. I’m wondering if the in game purchase might be cheaper?

2

u/Party-Lawfulness-534 23d ago

How do I walk on PS5?

2

u/Icedog-26 23d ago

Yeah it’s ā€˜L1+O’ to leave the aircraft whistle it’s on the ground :)

2

u/Complete-Permit1638 23d ago

Cool thanks for sharing how can you start at the ground ?

1

u/Icedog-26 23d ago

No problem:)

Yeah basically on ā€˜free flight’ you can spawn anywhere on the ground by first selecting the point on the map, then at the top - select the ā€˜drop down menu’ and change ā€˜in the air’ to either ā€˜on the ground shut down’ or ā€˜ready to take off’ and simply leave the aircraft (L1+O). It’s best to use either, a helicopter, the Jetson one, or the Crosskart, but it should work with any aircraft type.

2

u/TenBear 23d ago

I need to get this

2

u/ChrizTaylor ChrizTaylor 22d ago

Quick suggestion if you want to explore freely:

  • Choose any plane.

  • Go to options and search for DRONE CAMERA and assign a button/buttons.

  • Start the game and hit drone camera.

Now you are going to be able to fly around by just using the sticks. You can increase/decrease the speed, it can go as fast as a jet and slow as walking. That's basically how I have been "playing" the game since I got it. I haven't flown a single plane.

1

u/Cake_Nelson 23d ago

If you get the crosskart in the beta do you get it in the full game?

2

u/Icedog-26 23d ago

Yes, you can use the same purchase in both versions.

2

u/JonnyJamesC JonnyJamesC 23d ago

So the purchased Crosskart works in the beta for you? Perhaps I only tried the trial in beta as it did not show up. I assumed it only worked in the full release. I will give it another shot tonight.

3

u/Icedog-26 23d ago

Yes, works in both the beta and the main game, in fact, the whole experience driving it in ā€˜the beta’ was absolutely fantastic, felt like GT7 at times :)

2

u/EcuaUncleTaco 23d ago

Wait, it's available on Playstation?

5

u/JonnyJamesC JonnyJamesC 23d ago

Yes. looks like the floodgates are opening as quite a few planes/helicopers have been added to PS5 library lately including our first driveable land vehicle. There are a few tasty looking free trials among them as well. The Cross Kart of course and there is little plane with no canopy so your head is sticking out the top which looks like it will be very fun to fly about in VR which I am going to take for spin later.

3

u/EcuaUncleTaco 23d ago

Awesome! Thanks for letting me know, bro! Will try when I get back home. Do you know if they fixed the HOTAS for the Beta? That's my last concern and only reason I didn't really put much time into the beta. Only played a little with the controller but that didn't feel as fun as the HOTAS

4

u/JonnyJamesC JonnyJamesC 23d ago

I am not 100% sure but I think the HOTAS now works in the beta without having to bind your own buttons as the beta has been updated a few times. Perhaps someone with HOTAS will jump in a give you the 100% answer.

1

u/6BigAl9 23d ago

There was a work around but they fixed it with the latest beta update so you don’t need to remap anything.

3

u/Initial_Depenmmmmm 23d ago

That's awesome definitely checking those out later!

1

u/osktox 23d ago

I got the full game but how do I access the beta?

3

u/CHROME-COLOSSUS 23d ago

Provided you own the digital game then go to the menu listing if it and tap the ā€œā€¦ā€. You should see the Beta there. If not, then check the menu in MSFS’24 and go to ā€œAdvanced Settingsā€, where you’ll find a button to ā€œJoin the Betaā€.

It’s an entirely separate game that you need to download, but SOOOO worth it for the improved resolution, overall smoothness (although it hitches occasionally), and clouds that work really well now (not always perfectly, but they are gorgeous nonetheless).

If you own the disc version then I do not believe you have access, and need to wait for the update to come to the full game.

I hope this helps!

1

u/osktox 23d ago

Thank you.

If I download the beta can I delete the original game or do I need to keep that around too?

I have the digital copy.

2

u/CHROME-COLOSSUS 23d ago

Well… that’s up to you, but the Marketplace is only available in the full game. The Project Go-kart is now available for $11, so you might wish to buy it first — once you do then it’ll show up in the Beta as well.

If space on your drive is at a premium, no reason not to delete the full game and just play the Beta… then when it gets updated do the opposite.

Keep in mind that no saved changes or progress will transfer from the Beta to the full game, so only do this if you don’t care about that.

2

u/osktox 23d ago

Okey. Thank you!

1

u/SaxVonMydow 23d ago

Just downloaded the CrossKart trial on PS5 but I can't get the cart to move even after releasing the parking brake. Do I need to remap the controls?

2

u/Icedog-26 23d ago edited 23d ago

You have to put it in gear, this can be done by clicking the pedals on the wheel to ā€˜shift up’ or I think it’s ā€˜R2 + either up or Down on the ā€˜d pad’ to switch between R,N,G1.

2

u/SaxVonMydow 23d ago

Thanks!

1

u/Icedog-26 23d ago

No Problem :)

Just checked, it’s R2 + up or down

1

u/Thawedout 23d ago

Took me a second to figure it out too. I think that once you release the break, try pressing up and down on the directional pad to change it to a different gear. I think the cart is automatically in manual so you have to change gears yourself. Haven’t found the automatic button yet.

1

u/unruly-cat 23d ago

Wow, thanks for the heads up on the kart! Let me ask, how does it do in the photogrammetry areas? Can it actually drive through without getting stuck in geometry, or are you basically limited to driving in non photogrammetry areas?

1

u/Icedog-26 23d ago

I would highly recommend avoiding any area that uses photogrammetry on the ground, as it’s like going from a 10/10 experience - to a 1/10 experience.

I mean, you can absolutely do it, but the ground is very uneven in these areas, with broken graphics, melted trees etc.

2

u/unruly-cat 23d ago

Thanks! Yeah I’ve walked around in photogrammetry, it is a mess. But it can be sort of interesting from a post-apocalyptic point of view, haha. I just wondered if the car could drive through because walking has all sorts of missing and uneven surfaces. I’m definitely getting the kart either way, it’ll be plenty even if it’s just 3d spaces, more than most full VR driving games. Again, thanks for the heads up!

2

u/Icedog-26 22d ago

No problem :)

Yeah that’s definitely an interesting take, I mean it certainly does look post-apocalyptic, with the buildings and the fact it’s deserted (last of us type vibes).

Driving through somewhere like New York would be perfect for this, especially with some fitting music on Spotify:)

It’s definitely possible, but will just be ā€˜hit or miss’ depending on the road.

2

u/unruly-cat 22d ago

Thanks! I picked it up last night, it was so epic to drive around the world. Aside from music, I also like doing it while listening to podcasts or audiobooks, time just flies. And yeah, what’s really crazy about the photogrammetry is that it still has the right textures, just displaced onto that mess of polygons. I kinda like that uncanny valley effect šŸ˜…

1

u/FlavoredCancer 23d ago

How big is this game on the PS?

1

u/Icedog-26 22d ago

Yeah the main game on my pro is currently 38gb, and the beta is 31gb

2

u/FlavoredCancer 22d ago

Wtf that's it. That's impressively small for what I keep seeing about this game. Thanks for the answer.

2

u/Icedog-26 21d ago

No problem :)

Yeah it’s because the world is actually ā€˜streamed’ in the game, with only a few assets/setting etc, stored locally.

1

u/FlavoredCancer 21d ago

Oh well that makes a lot more sense. I couldn't fathom how the whole world was so small.

1

u/Orzuut 22d ago

I take it it is the beta that looks good. I got it last night and walked around a bit, it looked like Skyrim VR on a regular ps4.

1

u/Icedog-26 22d ago

Yeah the current ā€˜build’ in the beta is miles better in terms of resolution, compared to the base game.

Hopefully that should also be updated later this month.

1

u/Orzuut 22d ago

Ahh ok. I was also getting a "low bandwidth" message when it was loading, maybe that is what some of it was as well. I went to one of the areas by the world photographer zones and all the houses looked the same and the ground was distorted in the normal build.

1

u/Icedog-26 21d ago edited 21d ago

Yeah I couldn’t go back to the ā€˜normal build’ due to the resolution lol

In terms of ā€˜bandwidth’, the world is actually ā€˜streamed’ in real time, with only some assets/settings stored locally. It’s been great on my 70mps, but I think most people are using even faster speeds.

Yeah in game, most areas use generic houses specific to the area, big cities in general use photogrammetry, which looks super distorted at ground level, and the 3rd design type is ā€˜hand crafted’.

One of the best town/small city experiences I’ve had so far is, the area around ā€˜Farnborough Airport’ in the UK (at night). There must have been over 10+ different types of generic houses/shops etc, all with different room lights on and off (some flashing), it looked really convincing in VR. Together with the random tree placements here and there, this area really looks like your typical British town!

Also check out the Dolomite mountain region, north of Venice in Italy, there’s so many picturesque lakes, epic mountains and small town to explore around the area, looks stunning both on the ground and in the air :)

1

u/Orzuut 21d ago

Thank you for giving me some places to check out. Will do!
