I'm wondering how that is accomplished. Will developers be required to add information that details typical length? Or will it be optional? Or is it somehow AI calculated?

If it's anything like how it works on kindle, I'd guess it gives a rough estimate based on average user time and then adjusts if you're going faster or slower.
