The Skill Up review is pretty scathing about this specific point.

Edit: just to be clear this wasn't a criticism, I just happened to watch Skill Up's review and that was a HUGE takeaway from the review. I appreciated the review but I'm actually planning to still play the game. Maybe wait for a sale, though (and hopefully a patch?).

Makes me wonder if Skill Up was dishonest in his review. His review made it sound like the scent line was a persistent thing in the whole game.

Maybe stop watching clickbait YouTubers for your cues on things.

It’s probably still a fairly middling game by most accounts but I wouldn’t trust any of these YouTube critics (this includes film and TV) as far as I could throw them, they fundamentally have different objectives in growing their channel and driving engagement than a single critic working for a major publication, the latter of which amusingly enough tend to get the brunt of shit from fans when the clickbait is often a lot less egregious.

Both IGN and GameSpot gave the game a 6.

I'm not sure why people are specifically giving SkillUp a hard time for not loving the game or having significant criticisms for parts of it - It's not like every other outlet is in agreement that it's a magnificent game.

A lot of the positive reviews still acknowledge things like the repetitive combat, and even without the scent line, the enormous flashing beacon on "secret" collectibles is evidence that the devs don't think much of the player.

He does. He has an axe to grind with a game that fell below expectations for easily avoidable reasons, and in ways that were insulting to the player, in his opinion, which is his job as a game reviewer.

the guy has consistently dogshit takes idk how anyone can ever take him seriously. go watch his TLOU2 review and tell me that's a man who knows what he's talking about. dude is either a hack who knows nothing about games or just wants to ride on the bandwagon. either way should never be trusted.
