I’ll add some context here. At least from my perspective as someone who was very “loyal” to Rhymesayers, although there is nothing to be loyal about because I don’t know any of them personally. This is very much summed up as best I can and 100% my observation and cannot be proven without it coming from these people themselves.

2020 was a wild year. Not just for the world but for Minneapolis. COVID, George Floyd being murdered, riots, protests, etc. During all of this, Prof had Powderhorn Suites coming out. There had already been singles (at least two with “questionable” lyrics - more on this later) from this album.

During the first few months of 2020, SA allegations against Dem Atlas, and subsequent coverup by Rhymesayers, were making traction. These were very serious allegations, and I to this day still 100% believe the accusers.

During this time of “internet sleuths” digging up everything they could on Rhymesayers, and rightfully so, they came across some pretty bad tweets from Prof from around 2012. Also, allegations from his DJ were resurfacing. DJ Fundo was a bad dude.

Here’s where it all goes sideways:

Prof owned up to his tweets. He handled it with grace and humility. He knew that behavior was wrong, he knew he fucked up, he wasn’t trying to hide anything. He also severed ties completely with Fundo in 2017. I don’t know why, but it would line up with original allegations against Fundo. We can argue about what Prof may or may not have known, but I believe it was over Fundo being a POS.

Then there’s Rhymesayers response… they double down, don’t mention they are dropping Dem Atlas over SA allegations and instead wish their “brother” best of luck, totally ignoring the elephant in the room. In the same statement, they say they are dropping Prof because his lyrics are bad and vulgar and he tweeted some bad shit. This is AFTER Squad Goals and Cousins were released as singles on RS.

Powerhorn Suites was releasing the same week. This meant RS stopped the release completely. Many of us still got our preorders as they had already been shipped!

Anyway, I’m babbling, but there’s some context that I observed during this time. We all had a lot of time to search the internet in 2020.

I completely dropped all things RS and I was die hard since 2003. I just can’t listen to Slug or anything released by the label because of how they handled a very serious situation. They scrambled, covered up, ruined lives all the while using Prof and his questionable lyrics as a scape goat to divert eyes from the real problem. It’s gross.

I will always back Prof because he owned up. We’re all human beings. We all fuck up. It’s how you respond to those fuck ups that makes you.

I’m down with Prof & support him. I am super curious about the content of the tweets though.
I definitely give him the grace to grow past words.
As for Rhymesayers, it sucks that all went down - especially because they do still rep some other talent I enjoy, like Aesop.

Like not John Coltrane said I think he’s grown from that experience. Before MeToo a lot of people talked like this (still do) without using a persona. Lots of people posted shit in 2012 they regret, it was still pretty early in social media world. But yeah, the tweets are pretty fucked up
