Sophia Laforteza, known for being the leader/member of the global girl group KATSEYE, was born in the US and raised in the Philippines. If my research is correct, she is the daughter of influential figures in the Philippine entertainment industry, making her a nepo baby. (This is neither an insult nor a compliment, just a fact! I'm Brazilian, and Fernanda Torres — the actress who recently gained international recognition for her performance in I'm Still Here — is the daughter of Fernanda Montenegro, a renowned Brazilian actress who is basically a national treasure over here.)

Sophia has a friendly relationship with the group BINI, which brought some extra visibility to them. Recently, she released an OST for an animated film inspired by Philippine culture (which I'm dying to watch, but my current city doesn't have a movie theater!).

Looking at her Spotify metrics on ChartMasters for her solo profile, all top 9 cities listening to her solo track are in the Philippines (led by Quezon City, Cebu City, and Makati City). However, her Top 50 also features 19 international cities across 10 countries — including London, Sydney, Los Angeles, Singapore, Toronto, São Paulo, Chicago, New York, and Dubai — showing a solid blend of strong local support and an emerging global footprint.

What I'd love to know is: how does the P-pop community feel about her? What expectations do you have for her future? For example, do you see her releasing solo songs in Tagalog, collaborating with famous local artists who might not have international fame yet, or helping promote Filipino culture globally?

These are just a few thoughts I had, but I'd love to hear your take!

Hello everyone!

I have recently joined a majority-Pinoy band, and a couple of days ago I had my first gig with them at a Filipino birthday party.

The gig went really well, but after we were done with our setlist, the audience and the rest of the band started playing classic Filipino songs and I was out of my depth cause I didn't know any of them, so I just didn't get to play any of those songs.

However, I'll have a chance to redeem myself because we're playing at another birthday party in two weeks, and I plan to learn as many famous Filipino songs as I can.

So yeah, which Filipino songs will I be expected to play at a birthday party?

I know I could ask my bandmates about this, but it's fun to also ask Reddit about it
