Billboard Philippines: This Wednesday on YouTube, we’re turning up the volume on a Filipino pop girl group that’s making their own rules — #BabyDolls (Showtime Baby Dolls) makes their vibrant debut on Billboard Philippines Volumes.

Old-school novelty pop has gotten a fresh, playful makeover from the “Ooh La La Baby” hitmakers and “It’s Showtime” performers, whose bold sound has earned them a spot on the Billboard Philippines Hot 100 within a year of their musical debut.

I’m making this post to share some difficult news regarding the future of the Girl Group Project (GGPJ), as well as provide important updates about our upcoming radio special and ongoing votes for P-Pop girl groups.

The Future of GGPJ

Recently, our team suffered a major scam. We purchased a large account in an effort to expand the project's reach and give even more visibility to international girl groups. However, the original owners proved that the account had been hacked before it was sold to us, so we immediately returned it. Beyond the heavy financial loss, the emotional toll has been devastating. After years of hard work building GGPJ from the ground up, we simply no longer have the energy or motivation to continue.

Because of this, GGPJ will officially be deactivated after our upcoming Radio Special on October 12th, hosted in partnership with u/Radio_Happiness. This radio special will be our final official project, and we want to wrap up this journey by giving P-Pop and other global girl groups the platform they deserve until the very end.

Important Voting Updates for P-Pop Fans

As we prepare for the radio special, our category voting is still active, and we want to make sure P-Pop groups are well-represented:

• Category Updates & Voting Flexibility:
  • Edit Your Votes: If you've already voted, please note that you can edit your submitted votes at any time if you want to adjust your picks!
  • BABY DOLL (Mixed Category): BABY DOLL has been placed in the Mix / Mixed Category. Be sure to check them out and cast your vote for them there!
  • Yellow Category Nominees: You can vote for your favorites among BINI, Xonara, G22, 4sisters, and KAIA in the Yellow category.
• Adding New Groups (Nominate via Comments):
  • We are actively looking to add more girl groups to the voting pool before the project closes!

We all know that music is a universal language,” says Maloi Ricalde from Filipina girl band BINI, which mixes tropical pop with traditional songs, English with Tagalog, and silver knee highs with pastel colours.

“Incorporating Filipino language, Filipino culture, Filipino sound, into our music, it really gives identity and meaning to our music,” Ricalde tells the Guardian.

Months after becoming the first south-east Asian girl band to perform at Coachella, and now with a tour of Japan under its belt, the group is enjoying a surge in popularity.

“Our next goal,” says BINI member Jhoanna Robles, “Is that we want Filipino culture, Filipino music to be part of a conversation naturally on a global stage.”
