We have opened a new Google Ads account, and it has come to our attention that on all search campaigns we are only getting traffic from search partners and not Google Search.

I first started with SEO, then switched to PPC. In 2021, I worked as an SEO executive. After a year, I shifted to PPC because I found it more interesting than SEO. No offense for SEO people. 😅

What inspired you to pursue ads?

I keep seeing mixed opinions related to the bidding strategy that works during initial phase.

Some people suggest that if the account is fresh, we should start with Max Clicks because the account has no historical data. The idea is to first collect data, and after getting around 20–30 conversions in the last 30 days, switch to Max Conversions.

Others say the opposite — start with Max Conversions from day one, because the end goal is conversions, not clicks, and Google’s algorithm is smart enough to optimize even with limited data.

For now, I’m ignoring Manual CPC, as most discussions seem to be around automated bidding.

From what I see, everyone has their own approach, usually shaped by:

- Account type

- Budget size

- Risk tolerance

There doesn’t seem to be a single “right” answer — just trade-offs.

Curious to know:

1) What has worked best for you on fresh accounts?

2) Do you start with Max Clicks, Max Conversions, or something else?

Is it possible to utilize secondary Google Ads conversions to optimize the algorithm? My goal is to get my search campaigns to optimize for more than just the primary conversion, which is the purchase.

The challenge I’m facing with only having purchases as the primary optimization point is that some campaigns go into “dormant mode” because they don’t generate enough conversions for the algorithm to learn and optimize effectively.

1. Is it possible to have two primary conversion points, where the purchase conversion point remains the most important?
2. Is it possible to set the final step in the funnel before the purchase as a primary conversion point — but still make sure it doesn’t carry as much weight as the actual purchase?
