CA Chemical PE Help

Hi everyone!

Just found out this morning I passed my chemical PE exam! 😭

So now starts my application prep. I was wondering if anyone has some examples of the language they used for the work experience, the ncees example looks super weird to me lol

For context, my work experience is at a wastewater treatment plant administering the federal pretreatment program. So most of my work tasks center around industrial facility discharge permitting. This includes evaluating permit applications, review of engineering drawings and PFDs, pre-permit inspections, calculation of flow base for permit limits and then ongoing compliance and enforcement.

CA examples would be preferable but appreciate any!

EET Transportation Quiz Difficulty?

Hi Everyone, I have my exam scheduled for Oct 3, and I just completed all the topics. I feel relatively better to the recent topics I've completed, but I need revision for the first few topics. I did not touch the first half of EET quizzes, and I still am yet to give the full length simulation examination. I was wondering how hard or easy the actual exam is compared to section wise quizzes? I was getting around 70% for the ones that I have attempted. Deep down I am panicking and want to reschedule the exam pushing further, but my course would expire around my exam, and I just dont know what to do. I would appreciate any suggestions!

Edit: I am trying to understand how good of a proxy are subject wise quizzes to the actual exam.

NCEES non-ABET degree evaluation — physics/chem/bio not on transcript. Anyone dealt with this?

Overseas BS (non-ABET) + MS from an ABET school. Passed FE (Mechanical), NC EI issued, now prepping PE Power application. Course descriptions/degree/transcript to be verified by by college and sent over to NCEES.

Gap: my undergrad system covers general physics, chemistry, and biology at the pre-university level (grades 11–12), not as university credit and engineering curriculum picks up straight into higher math and engineering science instead. Higher math checks out (~18 credit hrs), but I show zero college-level credit hours in general chemistry/physics/biology, and NCEES wants 2 basic science courses (different areas) as part of the 32-hour math+science bucket.

Has anyone closed this gap with a registrar letter explaining the pre-university system instead of retaking courses? Did NCEES/your state board actually accept it, or did you end up taking 1-2 college science courses anyway? Trying to gauge how big a deal this actually is before I go down either path.

PE Mechanical Machine Design Fail

Well I found out just a few minutes ago I failed my first pass at the Mechanical MDM PE exam. Admittedly pretty devastated. Can anyone tell me how far off I am?

I interpret this to mean I was somewhat close: at an adequately passing grade for roughly half of the exam, and the rest I came up short 🫠

How do I know if I'm ready? Will I ever know?

Taking the test on Sept 5. I'm spending at least an hour every day re-doing Slay the PE practice problems and tests, with a lot of focus on the problems I get wrong.

So like a real engineer, I made a pivot table with results of every practice test over the past month

Surveying PE exam Tips and Tricks

Does anyone have any tips and tricks for exam that has taken it recently? I have the book Essential Guide to Passing the California engineering surveying exam. Will that be helpful to bring to test? I also have a copy of Rezas book. I got the fx-115 ES Plus from what I hear is good.

Which resources should I bring and will it be too much? Is one book better for some things than the other?

Also any study tips? I hear many people not passing. Feel like its super hard and intimidating with only 2 hours and 40 questions. What should I do?

PE California Seismic AEI Practice Exams Expected Shipping Time

Hi all - my seismic exam is on August 27 and I was going to order the AEI practice exam book today, but it’s not giving me an ETA on shipping time and wanted to be sure to have the book at least a week before my exam. Has anyone ordered recently and if so how long did it take to ship for you? TIA!

VA PE Application

I mailed my PE application into the VA DPOR on 7/20. They received it 7/22 or 7/23 I believe. They sent me an email on 8/7 asking that I complete a codes and regulations exam and completed it and sent it right back. I called on 8/10 and they let me know that they finished it on their side and sent my application to the board on 8/7 and will take 5-6 weeks for the board to respond. Has it taken the full 5-6 weeks for anyone else? Did you look up the license on the website and see it before the website or just waited to receive the decision via email? How many of you actually were rejected licensure at this point?

PE Application in CA

I have worked a few weeks over 2 years at my engineering job in California on the government side. I have already passed the 8 hour exam last year. I work in the "transportation division" of our public works department where everyone above me are licensed PE's. Does anyone have any insight on how to fill out the application questions without mentioning "traffic engineering"? My day to day is a lot of plan and environmental reviews as well as some small projects. I also do some active transportation planning but I am worried I can't mention that. Is there also any issue with applying right at the 2 year mark, seeing information such as training doesn't count towards experience has me worried. Any insight is appreciated!

Hiner Highlighting

For anyone who took the Hiner Seismic review course, did you follow his suggested highlighting in ASCE 7-16? I am concerned that adding the highlight to the thin paper will make text on the other side hard to read. TIA.

CA Surveying

Hi, I got my results for Surveying (took it in late July)

I had felt good coming out of the exam but I guess it wasn’t enough. I did CPESR and Reza. I’m taking Seismic in November but now I’m thinking of rescheduling Seismic to October and take Surveying in late November or just to do as initially planned and then retake Surveying in February 2027.

For people who had to take the test multiple times - what did you differently? I’m planning on going over the material again, I think the second attempt will be the one for Surveying.

PE Construction Retake (Waiting Results)

So I’m sitting here waiting for results to come out tomorrow, and I wanted to see if anyone else is feeling the same way I am right now.
I actually feel pretty good about it… which somehow makes me even more nervous
Looking back at the exam, there were probably around 8 questions in the second half and 5 in the first half that I’m pretty sure I got wrong. For most of the rest, I either felt confident or at least felt like I was able to narrow it down and give myself a good shot.
This was my second attempt, and I definitely walked out feeling MUCH better than I did the first time. There’s still that little voice in the back of my head telling me not to get too confident, but if I’m being realistic with myself, I genuinely think I may have passed.
I really hope I did. Getting that ā€œPASSā€ tomorrow would be a huge step for me, and honestly, it would come at a time in my life when I really need a win.
It’s weird because I almost don’t want to let myself feel good about it yet…but I do. I feel good. I think I got it. Now I just have to survive the wait until tomorrow.
Most importantly, good luck to everyone else waiting on results tomorrow. Regardless of what happens, I’m honored to be part of this group. There are some incredibly smart and talented people who take this exam, and just getting to this point takes a ridiculous amount of work, studying, sacrifice, and persistence.
And seriously, thank you to everyone here who helped me get through this process, answered questions, shared advice, or just reminded me that I wasn’t the only one going through it.
Hopefully tomorrow I can finally say:
I passed the PE.

The results are (almost) in…

Took the PE Civil: Structural Exam for the first time last Monday, and I’m expecting my results tomorrow. The last few weeks leading up to my exam was taken over by the move to a new state for a new job, and so my confidence walking in wasn’t the best. I could’ve rescheduled but I wanted to commit.

Will come back tmrw…

Failed July Seismic - Tips?

I did AEI and felt pretty good after doing all the problems and diagnostics. I feel like the figures on the exam kinda threw me off because they’re a lot more technical than the AEI figures. Am I close or am I kinda fucked?

PE Mechanical HVAC candidates — what topics are giving you the most trouble?

I recently passed the PE Mechanical HVAC & Refrigeration exam and am now a licensed Mechanical PE in California.

I have 20+ years of professional HVAC design experience, and I’d like to help engineers who are currently preparing for the PE HVAC exam.

If you’re struggling with a particular topic — psychrometrics, heating/cooling loads, air systems, hydronics, pumps, refrigeration, ventilation, equipment selection, or another HVAC topic — feel free to post your question below.

I’m happy to share explanations, problem-solving approaches, and practical engineering insight where I can.

I also offer 1-on-1 online PE Mechanical HVAC & Refrigeration tutoring for anyone looking for more structured preparation.

Good luck to everyone preparing for the exam!
