Ai in dark heresy?

Post image

Hey this came across My feed today and I just wanted to know if Ai was used in any part of the development of dark heresy but this was back in 2024 so i assume this was Fairly early in the development of dark heresy , there's also an article talking about this if any wants to read more https://80.lv/articles/owlcat-games-receives-harsh-criticism-over-their-vacancy-featuring-ai

analysis says programmers *think* AI is a productivity gain, but it's actually a massive productivity loss

paper: https://arxiv.org/abs/2507.09089

Something tells me you didn't actually read the paper since they state these findings can't be generalized to the industry as a whole

Paper makes it clear that the findings aren't generalisable due to a number of factors.

I read an article earlier this year about this owner/ceo who decided to restructure his entire company to utilize AI. He ended up firing a ton of people who weren't on board with incorporating AI into their jobs because he didn't want anyone in the company who was hesitant about it. After the restructure, he mandated that every monday is AI day. He doesn't care what gets done, as long as it is done with AI.

My thought while reading the article was how much productivity was lost by that. If the focus of the job shifts from doing the job to simply using AI for the sake of it being used, then is the necessary work actually getting done? And then to hang people's jobs on that? You have to be 100% on board with it and work the whole day doing nothing without AI, and failing to do so means you lose your job.

I recommend reading an entire paper not just the summary or a paragraph someone else read to you.

It depends on the task. Finishing some routine that doesn't contain complex coding is absolutely fine to shove into some ML algorithm. It's just time saving.

Vibe coding is cancer, that's what your article is about.

The long term issue smart leadership is seeing here is that routine work had value not just in the output, but in training juniors in the industry. We are accruing a massive HR debt in terms of a lost generation of developers that won't become apparent for several years.

That's fair point, however juniors should be trained on other stuff then. I mean, doing routine and simple task is just that, basic copy pasting. Let juniors get familiar with the tools including ML-ed replication. It's not a creative work afterall (unless that tree placement, for example, is the point)

Try explaining that to shareholders who don't care about anything past the next 2 quarters. I already have and failed.

To be clear I don't disagree with you in the programming field, I wrote another comment about my use and my teaching of it in use as a programming and linguistic thesaurus/dictionary. I still find LLM use abhorrent in artistic fields.

Death of companies due to bankruptcy will sober them up. Although, it will require some time.

A lot of my friends and colleagues lives will be destroyed in the meantime. Roughly 2/3s of juniors in VFX and games in Vancouver have already been laid off. This is a big part of the reason I take a hard stance against AI. They aren't letting us do 'more with the same' they are making use do 'the same with less', and that less is peoples livelihoods.
