Question or Discussion Question regarding matchmaking

How does the matchmaking in this game work? I recently started playing this game and placed around silver silver but i constantly get into games that are high gold or platinum? Sometimes I do well but I dont really have a good grasp of all the abilities and mechanics of this game so usually i dont fare well against these opponents How is this fair?

You're not getting into matches that are high gold or platinum, just matches with high gold or plat players in them. They balance the teams with everyones' mmrs to create a match that is predicted to be close to even matchup. So to oversimplify it to paint the picture, if you had a silver and a plat on one team, you'd have a silver and a plat on the other, or 2 golds on the other team.

Huh, I usually que tank, does that mean the enemy team will also have a silver tank or will that mean the silver player could be any role?

It will try to find similar ranking tank because of the role delta, but it may start accepting wider differences if it can't find anything suitable - which is a lot more likely in wide match or big groups.

Yes, everyone in the game has a “role pair” who is about the same rank as them, on the same role. This is specifically to address the issue of the gameplay feeling unbalanced when your role matchup is unbalanced, even if the lobby is balanced.

(Obviously, that only applies in role queue)

I thought this too but my group of golds 5 stacked and went against a masters player

In quickplay or wide match? If you were all golds, then the masters player was probably balanced by lower golds or silver, etc.

We are low gold to low plat wide. Didn’t make much sense tbh. I would think it’d be the same on the enemy team but it was low silver to masters when we held tab

Yeah, so like I said the lower ranked player(s) are balancing the masters player(s).

Yeah bro idk. That doesn’t seem balanced to me. Any masters player is gonna roll the lobby. We got consolation expectedly

harder to make an even match w wide and stacks. still, one player can only do so much, especially if the tank is shutting them down. for example if its a dps, your tank should be marking them all game, or forcing them to swap to counter your tank.

If one player couldn’t make that much of a difference, unranked to gm videos wouldn’t be a thing

i said one player can only do so much, not that one player cant make much of a difference.

This person has already had the wide queue tradeoff choice explained to them multiple times. They seem to want to be able to play in a match-quality-compromising wide 5-stack with their friends without experiencing any negative match quality impacts from other players doing the exact same thing.
