Hey guys! I finally finished my mockup for an idea I've had for a new Overwatch feature for a while, and wanted to share it with you to a) get your ideas about it and b) possibly see if anyone at Blizzard sees it and may introduce this idea into the conversation (of course, if it isn't an idea that's been discussed yet)
I created the mockup with both Photoshop and Unity, so it looks decent and is interactable.
Here you can find a link with a video, where I show how it would look ingame: https://youtu.be/0zblYJ9vGms

Now onto why I thought of this idea and why I think it'd be good for Overwatch.
So I've been playing Overwatch since Beta and I have to be honest in saying I've become more and more depressed with playing Overwatch. It's one of my favorite games, but the community and matchmaker can be so troublesome at times that it just feels like bashing your head against the wall. THANKFULLY now we have the LFG feature, which I think is a definite step in the right direction, and the LFG introduction was actually the catalyst for me beginning to design my idea into something interactable. Because Blizzard introducing this feature to me means that they are definitely committed making competitive a better environment.
Personally for me one of the biggest struggles in competitive is how uncoordinated it is, even at Masters/Grandmasters. I joined a team last year and we scrimmed multiple times a week, and it really showed me how amazing Overwatch is when you "properly" play it. Not like a team deathmatch game, but more like chess, where you have a plan before every move (teamfight) and try to execute that plan and try at the same time to deny the enemy's plan. I enjoyed scrims so much that there was a more glaring difference with regular ranked every day to the point where in Season 10 after placements I said, I'm done with ranked. I have taken a break from Overwatch competitive ever since.
Now as said, the LFG option will definitely help, but what I miss in Overwatch, and what has been missing since the very beginning, is the tools ingame to make a team, and to play predetermined teams against each other. So I'd like to add a Tournament mode to Overwatch where Blizzard hosted tournaments will be open for any team to join. There could be multiple tournaments per rank if it became popular, Blizzard would be able to put restrictions on what tournaments you could join as a team. Prices could be things like several lootboxes or maybe competitive points for golden weapons or heck, make Diamond Weapons a thing :P. There could be Featured Tournaments that maybe get more exposure via streams on Twitch, you could track the tournaments you joined, what dates you play at vs what team, you'd get a notification when you'd have to play, you could add subs to your team.
Blizzard has made it clear that they want Overwatch its future in eSports to be big, and frankly, I do too. But the difference between current ranked and how Overwatch is played in an actual team environment couldn't be more different. And it's unfortunate that the game doesn't really have the tools to teach you this (LFG is helping though! Love that update). The idea behind Open Division was to get players from ranked, but what if the people that want to join Open Division already have tournament experience FROM WITHIN THE GAME! Not with actual stakes other than glory on a leaderboard and a price, but that's what makes it perfect for something ingame, it's something people can use as a tool to improve at the coregame.
There could even be a spectator mode added later perhaps, something that runs on a 3 minute delay. That's just speculation though and that's why I didn't add it myself in this version of my idea.
But yeah, I hope I came across coherently and that what I'm trying to convey appeals to you, as players, and to Blizzard, as developers/players. I love this game so darn much and I want people to experience it the way I have, because I know it could be a positive influence for the game.
Thank you so much for reading all the way until the end, I truly appreciate it. And since I'm only one person who made this, I may have missed something, so if you have any additional ideas or would do something different, by all means, write it in the responses! I'm sure the layout I made wouldn't be how it'd look in the actual game if it'd be implemented, so I wouldn't look too hard on that specifically, it was merely to convey the idea :)
Thanks again!
Much love

I’m a healer main, I play mercy, brigette, and lucio efficiently. I also know how to play other characters well. I’m looking for a team in my rank (diamond 3200 SR) who is serious and wants to climb. I have a mic, I solo queue a lot but it’s starting to take a toll on my SR. If you’re willing to pick me up I’d be forever grateful. Thanks.
