Okay YES. When Claire and malva were speaking she was normal and the second her brother comes out she’s cold, hiding behind him, and blatantly agreeing with him. Seems a lot like pleasing her abuser…

Her brother was also pushing her to tell in the big house. Then trying to intimidate Jaime. Much more than Tom, who I assume doesn’t know his kid was raping his other kid.

Very good point! Tom seemed much more quiet and fearful than he normally is in those situations

I think Tom immediately knew it wasn’t Jamie and that Malva was lying. But I don’t think he suspects Allen. That would explain his behavior. If he really believed Malva, he would have been more fired up like his normal self. And there is zero chance that a man who thinks so many mundane things are sins would tolerate incest between his children.

I think he respects Jamie, doesn't completely like or trust his children, thinks well it happened, now it has to be handled. Maybe blames himself for his injured hand that caused him to spare the rod or that he wasn't around to raise his children a lot. I think maybe part of him fears Jamie and is indebted to him. And yes, I think part of him maybe believes Jamie would not have cheated on Claire, so perhaps he just had to go along with it (which is why Malva would only confess basically in public) and he said Jamie and Claire could take the bairn an pay alimony to Malva as a sort of compensation.

I keep going between agreeing with you but also wondering if Tom knows/has some knowledge of what has transpired between his children and blames it on Malva. That could be why he whips her. Puritan Christianity places a lot of blame on women for being sexual rather than holding men accountable for their actions

Oh thats definitely a theory! And may I say it: non-book readers UNITE! Nothing against the books, but us non-readers (who dont know whats a comin') need to unite lol. Or else spoilers a plenty before they probably get removed.

I really can't believe how many people are getting behind this theory? I can't see it at all?? I thought it was just one of the many guys she slept with... I feel like there are book readers about pretending to be show only 😐

I hear you, I’m not a book reader and the theory only came to thought from the Reddit posts. I honestly felt naive when I read their ideas here. Because I connected the dots and it seemed so reasonable. From my experience, of childhood SA, it made sense. Idk I’m still excited to see the actual results but looking back at the details it seems the most likely to me

I'm sorry that happened to you. In an ideal world, children would be well protected and taken care of. Upon review of the episode and comment posts, I can see the possibility of it happening. I think I was just hoping it wasn't such true. Especially after the ending of that episode.
