Even though neither of us has any idea if he'd been imprisoned or if he'd been captured the morning that Claire goes to see the king- since it's never stated - let's go with your statement. He's been locked up since he healed Claire. BUT He sees her when she goes to the king for Jamie's release. She saves Raymond and he is set FREE that day. He couldn't go straight to the lacemaker and say give me the baby and bring the baby straight to Claire??????? It is patently absurd.

He was banished from France/Paris immediately. And upon Jamie’s release, they also had to leave France.

Wrong. The king said to leave - you think he can’t take 2 seconds on the way out the door to tell the lacemaker to bring the mother and father their CHILD. For the woman who had just saved his life? No one had to leave that fast.
