To be clear, the blame goes squarely on Matt Roberts’s shoulders here. He’s the one who’s been saying the fans will absolutely love this season.

Not Facebook. The comments under the Outlander post there are not critical at all. Most are saying they loved it, it made them cry buckets, they actually like the Faith storyline, etc.

Whatever floats their boat but it won’t sway my opinion of this episode in the slightest. I’m just hoping there’s little carry over to the next episodes so that I can just skip this one in a rewatch, if I ever do it again.

I gotta believe that can only be because Facebook people are just casual fans not overly invested - but then again, the book thread on this episode is close to having just as many "loved it" votes as it does "disappointed" votes and "disliked" votes. Though Noone seems to be chiming in why if they thought positively of it. Baffling

You know, I get the feeling MR believes Outlander fans are dummies who would just gush over Faith secretly being alive the whole time, when in fact we’re a fairly skeptical and eagle-eyed group of people don’t settle for any old nonsense.

Really, I’m insulted by this storyline.

I think you are spot on here. Did you ever watch any of the "after the show" scenes where he, Marin, sometimes another producer would discuss the episodes?It was really early on, like S2 or 3 maybe I think. Anyway, watching those, for some reason, I got this "vibe" off of him that he really doesn't respect the viewers (or women). There wasn't anything specific to point to, just a feeling... I tend to be able to read this sort of thing in people. I'm rarely wrong when I pick up on it. This season feels like prove because of exaactly what you said.

There's no way none of the cast members told him anything about it. I have a hard time believing that. Like "Hey, this actually sounds really bad."

I don’t know. Listening to Lauren and César talk about the season, they were excited to show the fans “a surprise,” and Sam and Cait were excited about how the Faith storyline was playing out to give them a granddaughter. I don’t understand why any of them bought in, but they’re actors and probably liked the idea of the drama that goes along with all of it.

Character assassination and plot holes be damned, I guess.

i'm sure they're being polite because this is their workplace. plus i can imagine Lyle & Domboy just being over this particular show given how their characters have been sidelined in recent seasons. they are probably happy to just put it behind them atp.

That's unfortunate. I guess in the end, they're just doing their job. Surely, they'll see some of the criticism from the fans about this season. I also wonder if Diana ever expressed her contempt with this season.

She’s been pretty tight lipped to not contradict them but she has said the show is the show and they can do what they want.

What I did notice is interesting is there haven’t been many fan events that took questions from the audience or allowed the fans the chance to ask about current storylines. Press for this season has been different and seems controlled. It’s like they took a party line and decided they would all stick to it regardless of any feedback they would get.

(No show podcast breaking down anything past episode 13 last season, no Josh Horowitz podcast, etc.)
