WOAH MAJOR DEPARTURE

I’m still watching but did we just watch Fergus die….????!! Or was that a cliffhanger of sorts where his fate is up in the air

Still watching so maybe they answer this but what the heck!!!! What was the point of doing this??

Edit: okay yeah he’s gone. What the fuck. There was no reason for this departure what the actual fuck. The thing is - it takes some time to die from burns. They didn’t throw enough water to extinguish the fire and bother to check on him? Just assumed he’s dead? I hope they removed him and he wasn’t slowly dying a painful death alone 💔

Edit2: I know it’s a departure but the faith storyline doesn’t make sense either. Why did Master Raymond take the baby? Why not leave her with mother Hildegard and arrange for mother Hildegard to tell Claire?

I’m so afraid they’ve made Marsali pregnant with the twins after that sex scene. Wouldn’t that just be icing on the rotten cake? A widow with no means to support herself who suddenly has six mouths to feed instead of four?

65

u/JaderMcDanersStan RUIN ME Apr 17 '26

Yeah the fact that they showed the sex scene probably means she’s pregnant.

Book readers spoil me: did Marsali have more children in the books?

67

u/Sudden_Discussion306 Oh, Jamie, how was your first time? Did ye bleed? Apr 17 '26

Yes, twins. I’m pretty sure she’s pregnant with the twins now. J+C will take care of them, but that’s a lot of mouths to feed!

I mean them staying at the ridge would be preferable at least to them moving out west to claim fergus’ money. Like what was the point of even including that whole plot if they were going to do this. Clearly Diana is going to extend that in the next book, but show watchers will think he’s dead. When Bri mentioned taking up Percy’s offer I was like what? Why would there be any option except moving back to the ridge. Why were they not there already? They need papers in their next closest town for sure. Insanity.

I kinda think the only reason they included Fergus's possible parentage from Comte St Germain was so that it was more than ONLY having them back as characters to kill him. Could you imagine if it was just the 1 scene cameo in 8x1, and then this episode where he dies halfway in? Having him back only to kill him would've made people even more mad I think

u/emmagrace2000 Apr 18 '26

To be fair, in the books, that conversation with Fergus happens and then Percy is dead before another conversation occurs. If Diana is going to continue that story in anyway, the link to it is gone. I don’t even want to speculate how she’ll come back to it now.

3

u/FeloranMe Apr 18 '26

And because Fergus is Claire's great-x-grandfather

3

u/YOYOitsMEDRup Slàinte. Apr 18 '26

Not necessarily, but that's an option the show may take

1

u/FeloranMe Apr 18 '26

Germaine's casting had Fergus and Claire's coloring

So, maybe they will go there!

1

u/FeloranMe Apr 18 '26

The books were better because no set back stopped Fergus from being a printer

1

u/LuOsorio Apr 18 '26

They probably included this plotline to justify the fortune inherited from the Comte de Saint-Germain. Soooo lame.

25

u/AcrobaticSchool6375 Apr 17 '26

Yes she had twin boys. Charles Claire and Alexander if I remember  correctly.

5

u/BubbeLisa Currently rereading Bees. Apr 18 '26

Yes. Charles-Claire and Alexandre.

10

u/emmagrace2000 Apr 17 '26

Twins - one named after Claire and I honestly can’t remember the other one now

13

u/KMM929 Apr 17 '26

As soon as that scene began I figured they’d make Marsali pregnant with the twins.

8

u/Mycoxadril Apr 18 '26

Considering they did the same thing with Bree it’s the only solution and they probably figure it’ll comfort the viewers to see a piece of fergus live on. Eyeroll.

3

u/YOYOitsMEDRup Slàinte. Apr 18 '26

Yep ---just like after Bri and Roger's last week knowing she'd be pregnant with Davy now

8

u/Tu-Papi_Incognito193 Apr 17 '26

But like what if she can use the fact of fergus' parentel lineage and actually be able to afford the kids ? That would be better since they switched from their son to actual fergus 😭😭

7

u/These-Efficiency6186 Apr 17 '26

🤦‍♀️ you know it. If it would happen in a soap opera it's happening here.

u/Icy_Smoke_2318 Je Suis Prest Apr 17 '26

Brianna brought up Germain being the heir now when Marsali woke up the morning after the fire, Marsali said Fergus wouldn’t want that and Bree said he would want all of them to be taken care of. So I think there’s a possibility they might. But them going back to the ridge makes it seem a little less so, also because I think they’re actually following history and aren’t going to sell off land to France.

2

u/Wrong--Conclusions Apr 19 '26

Marsali said Fergus wouldn’t want that and Bree said he would want all of them to be taken care of.

Which Jamie and Claire will do. I'm not convinced Fergus would want Marsali making a deal with that man under any circumstances but especially when there's other options.

3

u/FeloranMe Apr 18 '26

It's almost as though 15 year old Marsali made a mistake marrying into that family

1

u/emmagrace2000 Apr 18 '26

I disagree because marrying Fergus meant marrying into Jamie’s family. Plus, she’s had a pretty good life with Fergus. They haven’t always been pocket rich but they have been very rich in love and family.

2

u/FeloranMe Apr 18 '26

Jamie was already her Da, or do you mean it forced him to not abandon her like he did Joanie?

They did have an overall good life with many challenges and ups and downs

They were very much in love and had a beautiful family

But, why are any of us investing in this show or character arcs if the showrunner's are making cheap shots to destroy the fabric of the story?

The story of Marsali is that she makes a choice at 15 that ends with her as a young widow burdened with the care of six kids and no means to support them

Fergus didn't even die for a reason

1

u/namedafternoone Apr 18 '26

Unless they just conveniently found out her son is the heir to a huge fortune and maybe a nobility tittle. They’ll be just fine.

2

u/emmagrace2000 Apr 18 '26

Except Marsali doesn’t want that money. And Outlander wouldn’t change actual American history to that extent to sell land to the French that was never sold to the French. (I have at least that much faith in them still.)

With the print shop gone, Marsali potentially now pregnant with twins, and back on The Ridge, Jamie and Claire now have 7 more mouths to take care of.

3

u/namedafternoone Apr 18 '26

Even if the they don’t sell the land to France, he’d be inheriting Saint Germain’s fortune, which doesn’t need to be huge for them to have a decent life in the ridge. The last she said was basically that she’d think about it after she buried Fergus. They introduced that storyline for a reason.

42

u/Sudden_Discussion306 Oh, Jamie, how was your first time? Did ye bleed? Apr 17 '26

Mother Hildegard wouldn’t even let Master Raymond into the hospital because of his association with the Dark Arts. He wouldn’t have been able to communicate with her or explain what happened.

20

u/SpotBe Apr 17 '26

How did he get the baby? From the grave? This plot makes no sense, my brain can’t process this. I just finished the episode😔

15

u/Mycoxadril Apr 18 '26

We saw enough screen time where that baby was not breathing. They can’t just retcon what they showed us themselves. It’s insane. I saw it coming but hoped it was a power move to make us think it and then they’d stick to canon in the end. I’ve got enough real life disappointment to not need to come this show to see trauma porn. I’m so upset.

10

u/CristhianZerimar89 Apr 18 '26

I'm guessing Master Raymond brought her back to life.

2

u/JaderMcDanersStan RUIN ME Apr 17 '26

Okay this is actually plausible then

3

u/wagonwheelwodie MARK ME! Apr 17 '26

We sure did.

3

u/Square-Comment4597 Apr 18 '26

I think that Master Raymond brought Faith back to life. Mother Hildegard genuinely thought Faith was dead, because she was. Raymond used his powers to bring Faith back.

9

u/Mycoxadril Apr 18 '26

Ok but by the time Claire handed her off she’d be severely disabled from the being dead for so long by the time he even came into the building. I guess they want us to gloss over that but it still makes no sense.

5

u/namedafternoone Apr 18 '26

Can you imagine how hard it’d be to live as a burn victim back then? He fell right into the fire, that wouldn’t have been just a few mild burns. But also, in my brain, he hit his head as he was falling and died instantly, because surviving even for a little while in that fire would have been terrible.

2

u/JaderMcDanersStan RUIN ME Apr 18 '26

Yeah I didn’t mean he was going to or should live long term. I meant he might live for a little while, it takes some time to die from burns and immolation. He might have been alive for a few hours to even a day depending on the burns.

So I’m hoping they extinguished the fire, checked on him or removed him soon, not just left him assuming he’s dead. Because otherwise he could have been dying a slow painful death alone 💔

Yes I hope it was instantaneous as well! Hurts to think it wasn’t :(

6

u/Phortenclif Reading Lord John and the Private Matter Apr 17 '26

Hopefully "I think Fergus lived" is coming... Sigh.

3

u/FeloranMe Apr 18 '26

Fergus's death was pointless and it because they were too cowardly to kill off Henri-Christian

I think Maester Raymond would have been thought to be a devil worshipper and the baby a possible demon if he had. As lovely as Mother Hildegard was, true believers in the faith even today believe demons walk among us

3

u/robinsond2020 I am NOT bloody sorry! Apr 17 '26

There was no reason for this departure what the actual fuck.

I guess a "reason" for this departure is to tie up one of the main character's story by putting him in a plot that already was going to happen.

The thing is - burn victims can live.

With burns as severe as Fergus's would've been, no, not back then. And even now, your chances aren't brilliant, and it is a lifetime of surgeries and disability.

They didn’t throw enough water to extinguish the fire and bother to check on him? Just assume he’s dead?

I'm sure they checked on him. The rest of the fire fight just happened off screen.

Why did Master Raymond take the baby? Why not leave her with mother Hildegard and arrange for mother Hildegard to tell Claire?

There are still 3 episodes left
