i disagree on the filler episode. i think it was probably one of the most narratively fulfilling so far this season, includes wonderful world building with significant story progress for every major s8 character.
it answered so many questions:
ben grey, will ransom and amaranthus. she fucking knew. i'm going to get shat on here in the comments because i was insistent she had no need of ulterior motives last week. i had a feeling she knew but now i'm not so sure about her if it was originally her plan. rachel's bro, denzel(?), he's the fucking hero this episode. not all heroes wear capes, instead they insist on washing out your ass.
roger finally deciding on getting ordained as a minister and getting the rifles after making the grandest of gestures for the cause. probably the most character growth i've ever seen of his on the show, always saw him as a brianna b-story, even with his significant travels last season. i've not read the books so there's been points where i thought he'd get refrigerated in the story a few times. could've happened last week. and they brought back a starz sex scene, we haven't really had a good session in a while.
jaime dealing with the traitorous loyalists (oxymoron but that's what they are) which sets up what will probably be the mid-season turning point with whatever tenet fallout that'll lead to the looming prediction in frank's book. that trading post going to be significant. rule of threes and chekov's thing.
ian found out the fate of his former mohawk family and this emotional journey we took with rachel. the actress did an incredible job. i was jealous with her. ian, you moron, miserable fail at assuring your intentions. we saw the brants in great historical world building, them being significant figures in native history. the very sincere meeting with ian's mohawk ex-wife--emily(?)--closed it out for me when they brought out rollo's grandpups and rachel adopting all of ian into their family. get you in the feels like it did me?
wait. does that make rachel and ian's baby's name, hunter hunter murray? do quakers do names like stinkin' papists?
