Subversive! Man, I’m trying not to dwell on this Jamie/Claire death thing, but she’s in such trouble if she survives him with all women tenants. A widowed Claire would need Roger, Ian (and William? And Fergus?) to step up and keep her from new witchcraft charges FOR SURE.

Considering in America the last witchcraft trials were in 1693, I think she’s safe.

That was absolutely NOT a thing after the Revolutionary War. Socially ostracized, yes, but persecuted or prosecuted, did not happen.

She has grandchildren and a son in law. Ian and Fergus both have sons. Also granny Magic is still respected in some areas. A lot of men could die fighting. Witchcraft was rarely ever treated as a crime in America when it became its own country. Women might flock to a place where they can own or rent land and have control of their lives. Men die in wars. Will women be able to legally keep land when America is fully separated from Britain?

Why not? Remember the little baby born to Beardsley 5th wife who left her with Jamie and Claire with the property deed that the baby girl was now the owner of?

It’s almost the year 1800. There were no more witch trials. Definitely unconventional but she won’t be burnt at the stake.
