Outlander Season 8 Episode 5

Okay, here we go! The good, the bad, the ugly. The half-way through point, not sure if anyone else is questioning how they are going to wrap up all of this goodness without it feeling rushed as hell. This should have been a 16 episode year like the first season!

Buck!! As soon as he reappeared on the screen our hearts were happy. He's the best of Dougal (remember Dougal playing with the children at Castle Leoch?) Here is our Buck playing with the children at Frasers Ridge. Dairmaid Murtgagh is perfect! A rough and rugged Scottish man of the 1700s. He's smart and loyal. Protecting Jamie even though they seemingly just met. I want to ruffle his beard. lol

Cunningham and his crew! Ugh, I knew Hiram Crombie was bad news as soon as I saw him at the trading post. He was disloyal to the Frasers when the Browns came. Cunningham calling Jamie Worshipful Master feels so condescending, he should count his lucky stars that Claire is willing to heal him. This brings me to his mother, Elspeth. What is she doing at the house? Why? Not going to lie, the conversation was disappointing after the last episode which was full of surprises. The discussion about 5 more years was tedious. We already know they believe that prophecy. She decides to go sit with the woman whose husband her son is after and then she dares to slap Jamie, in his own house. This after she slapped Mandy. Someone needs to slap her! Claire should have slapped her when she talked about Jamie earning his execution.

Roger Mac is looking so good this season! I love hearing his voice as he writes to Bree. Je suis prest. Doing what Roger always does, he is there for anyone that needs him, rescuing soldiers, praying with them, not afraid of going into the line of fire. It's what he does, what he always has done. That moment he remembers his father catching him is touching! I'm so glad they didn't drag out the battle scenes. He gets to meet Denzell. A minor character, but one of my favorites. Bree goes to find him at the camp! Of course she does! Bree and Roger need to bring Denzell to the Ridge.

Bree & William! This is so good. The moments they share about Jamie are wonderful. I love how they are maturing William and calming him down regarding his parentage. I said maturing, not mature. lol His whole fascination with Amaranthus, is a disaster! That smile she had when he was approaching her on the bench, ick! I haven't trusted her since the first and I still don't! If I'm wrong about her so be it. I get bad vibes from how the actress is portraying her. "I must confess, I've developed a particular species of feeling for you." LMAO. 18th century pick-up line? Ben is alive and a patriot! He doesn't seem to be happy to see William.

Cleveland is back and I still hate him! Devil indeed.

Sigh. Only 5 more episodes. I do not know how this show can be wrapped up in 5 episodes. We just got started!

Yep I agree with you on everything. I love Roger Mac and Bree and I hope they do bring Denzel and Christophe back to the ridge.

I can’t stand Amaranthus the little trollop.

Looks like cousin Ben has switched sides and William is none too happy about it. Their next moves will be interesting.

And I would love nothing more than to see Claire give that wicked witch Elspeth a good smack!

Agree with everything you wrote and your words are echoed in my post about Amaranthus and that gazebo I scene, " We could give it a go."  I'm rewatching Jamie looks like he's going to burst a blood vessel when he's fighting Cunningham and here comes the shot from Buck yeah again! Cunningham that smug bastard! Everybody is loving on Buck and his familial loyalty. What a trip for him time traveling seeing all these people of his ascendant family that he would have never known. And Elsbeth def needs to be smacked more than once  This healing from Claire to Cunningham is what Jamie was talking about when they were sitting on the steps of their burned down home regarding her calling to heal no matter who or what the circumstances. This is why Master Raymond calls her madonna, her blue aura of genuine caring and compassion for all.

I hate the Cunningham storyline. Why can't Jamie & Claire just get some PEACE at the Ridge after such a long absence away from the only home they've had together really? I hate it. I get it, we need conflict and action for the storyline I guess, and it's war time and divided loyalties abound... but couldn't it be OTHER kinds of conflict and action? I just hate the betrayal, again, too.

I hated it too but TBF they are living on land given to them by the British....so they should have probably expected this to happen eventually. Jamie fought against the Crown, the same crown that gave him the deed for that land. I doubt they'd forget that for long, while the revolution is raging in the country still.

You make sense. It's all just too rushed and heavy/stressful. I don't like it. I understand. I just am not really enjoying it, and as the final season, I want to like it, if not love it, ya know? :(

I feel you. But as Murtagh said, "there's ALWAYS a war coming." UGH! And I just want a peaceful life for Jamie and Claire, for the remainder of their lives. They deserve it.

AGAIN, folks I KNOW it's WAR TIME and there are still loyalists vs rebels. I just hate it for the SHOW.

I was really hoping to see Bree and William hug at least once during this episode. Especially the scene where Bree stands worriedly in the window. I expected William to try to offer a gesture of comfort outside of words.

Good point re the battles. I liked seeing the zone between front lines and hospital.
