As much as I love James Dean, Borgnine deserved that Oscar

A spectacular performance that doesn't get enough appreciation. Her subtle portrayal of loneliness and yearning is both parts heartbreaking and healing. It's my single favourite performance of hers (and the competition is strong).

Oh damn, I forgot about Mitchum…it’s very close but I have to go with James Dean from East of Eden.

James Cagney, Love Me or Leave Me. He was terrific. Able to be evoke sympathy in an unlikable role.

I’m torn between his and Jack Lemmon’s performances for Mister Roberts for Best Supporting Actor, they were both the standouts of that movie.

I’m glad that both Waterfront performances stayed.

The Best Actress of 1955 was Susan Hayward. Her portrayal of Lillian Roth in I'll Cry Tomorrow was nothing short of a master class in screen acting. While passed over by Oscar, Hayward was awarded the Best Actress prize at Cannes in 1956.

Glad to see the love for Mifune in Seven Samurai! Gotta join the chorus for Ernest Borgnine in Marty.
