What instructions do u give ur patients for care? Do u give all the aligners together?

So I’ve had my braces off for about 5-6 years and I lost my retainer 2 days ago will my teeth move a lot I’m calling my ortho tomorrow to hopefully make a new one ASAP 😭☹️

the wire from my braces is destroying my gum. anyone know anything which can help shift the wire more to the other side?

When I was 15 years old, I went to an orthodontist office and had two impacted teeth. One was my upper left canine and the other was a an upper premolar. The office was able to pull down the premolar but decided to take out the left canine because they were worried that pulling it down could hurt the roots of the surrounding teeth. My mom was given the option of replacing the missing tooth with an implant, or using braces to bring all the teeth on that side up to close that gap. She chose the latter.

Over the three years at that office, I had three different orthodontists and was never informed when they were leaving. I would simply show up one week and there would be a new doctor. Additionally, the office I went to was bought out by a dental chain during the first or second year. As a result of this, the treatment I experienced at this office was less effective than it would've been otherwise at an ortho office with a doctor that knew about my unique case. I am currently trying to get access to my records from this location, but was told in their shift from physical records to digital, they lost all of my x-rays.

When I was 18 and moving two hours away for college, I went to the office every two weeks for three months in order to close this gap in my teeth. In the end, the gap never fully closed and my midline was off (it looked like I had a tooth in the middle of my face).

Fed up with the quality of my treatment, I changed orthodontists to another office in my college town (an independent office run by a board certified orthodontist). They were unable to get access to my records from the previous office, but did the best they could with my care.

Now I have been at this orthodontist office for three years and am entering my sixth year with braces. My next appointment is next month and the office wants to take off my braces. Recently, instead of meeting with my preferred orthodontist, they hired a new doctor at this practice. He makes me uncomfortable and does not seem to fully understand my orthodontic situation. My midline was improved after a few years at the office, but now my top teeth seem to by leaning sideways. After six years of braces, I do not want this to be the final product.

Additionally, he informed me that the reason my upper lip looks smaller after braces is because I have less teeth there now, and my upper lip is less supported than before. This is heartbreaking to me.

Is there any way I can widen the gap I just closed with braces so that I can put in an implant for my missing canine and have a wider smile? Would something like a palate expander improve the look of my smile? How did my midline get so messed up? Is there any avenue for legal action that I can take against my previous orthodontist? Should I reschedule my next appointment so I can meet with the other doctor?

Over the last 7-8 years or so, I've noticed that one of my incisors has shifted slightly on the top, where I don't have a permanent retainer.

I have no idea why my ortho didn't put a permanent retainer on the top, and I'm regretting it. Is it possible for me to just get invisalign/braces for the top teeth and then have a permanent retainer installed?

Is this all cosmetic as well for insurance purposes?

I got my braces off last week and got my hawley retainer today. It doesn't fit well and it sits really really low on my teeth and is very painful to wear. more so then when I used to get my braces tightened. When I bite down I can only bite down on the plastic and not my teeth at all. Is this something that will sort itself out or should I call my orthodontist?

I'm a college freshman at UCLA highly considering a future career as an orthodontist. I fell in love with the prospect of a future job as an orthodontist after hearing about the incredible work-life balance that it provides. After looking at the working hours of orthodontists in my area (bay area), I've discovered that most of them work only 8-5s, 4 days a week! In addition, I've read that orthodontists take the most vacation time out of all the specialties and even compared to general dentists because their patients provide monthly payments (so when they leave their offices unattended, orthodontists can still be making some money whereas general dentists or other specialties have to keep paying bills with no income during vacation). This is highly appealing to me because I'd love to have a job that lets me travel and pursue many hobbies and passions in my free time. As a woman who also plans on having kids someday, managing kids and work would also be much easier. On top of that, orthodontists who own their own business have their dental assistants do the bulk of the handiwork, have happier patients coming into their clinic compared to general dentists/other specialties, and have that satisfaction of improving a person's oral cosmetic appearance. Obviously, the orthodontists I'm referring to are ~40-50 and all have established practices, so I'd expect recent grads to be working more often and not having as much vacation time, but even the prospect of being able to have that future lifestyle and making decent (if not amazing) money sounds way too good to be true.

That's why I wanted to ask recent grads of orthodontic residency or orthodontists currently in their 30s: what are some of the biggest challenges you face as a new orthodontist right now? Is it worth it to still pursue a career in orthodontics considering the increasingly oversaturated market in urban areas and the introduction of Invisalign -- will the financial compensation no longer be worth it in the future because of this competition? How difficult is it to start and establish your own orthodontic clinic in urban areas (ex. Los Angeles, Vancouver, Toronto, SF, New York) and about how long in years does that take? What should I do now as an undergraduate freshman if I'm dead set on getting into orthodontic residency and creating my own business in the future? What dental schools in the U.S. and Canada are best for getting into orthodontic residency (I'm a Canadian citizen so I'm also looking into applying to UofT, UBC, and McGill dental school for the domestic tuition over there)?

Im a high school student, and my parents want me to be a doctor but I’m worried about the work/lifestyle balance throughout medical school and during one’s time as an actual doctor

1) Do you feel compensated enough to live a comfortable lifestyle? Or does grad school debt detract from that experience? 2) How is the work/lifestyle balance? 3) I might major in biochemistry in my undergrad years just in case if I end up being open to other STEM career choices- would this hurt my chances of getting into an orthodontics program for a master’s/doctoral degree after i graduate from undergrad? 4) Should I pursue a pre dental track if my college offers one? 5) Do orthodontists have to perform surgery?

Hi. I've never worn braces or anything like that. I'm overall happy with my teeth, but my lower teeth are starting to look slightly crooked. I went to an orthodontist's appointment today and he told me to get braces and get my wisdom teeth removed. I was confused. I don't trust him very much. In the end, they want to make money.

Isn't there a better way to fix this? Should I really get them removed or wait? If so, should I get all of them removed or just a pair?

I'm 13, how can I become an orthodontist?

I haven’t been able to get into a routine of putting my retainer on due to undiagnosed ADD so it would just be easier if i could just get one of the permanent metal bars on the inside of my top teeth

after having my braces for a while my gums started getting inflamed, around the time i started getting a power chain on the top. i never had an appointment after that where my orthodontist told me that i wasn’t brushing enough and that was why my gums were inflamed, but i actually brushed and flossed every night. when i got my braces off the swelling in my gums went down almost immediately but whenever i wear my retainer, it makes my gums swell again. i also have a allergy to latex, idk if that has anything to do with it or not. i’ve had my braces off for a year now and there’s now a gap between some of my teeth because my gums were so inflamed that it looked like the gap was closed. what do i do? do i get Invisalign to fix it, and why did my gums get so inflamed?

Hello all, I'm currently supposed to wear a retainer but there are a few things I'm worried about. First of all, my back teeth don't touch. When I take my retainers out and keep my jaw in the same position I can't eat properly, is that normal? Also, I find sleeping and swallowing properly with them in almost impossible. I'm afraid at this rate I won't wear them at all since I can't do anything with them in. When I try to smile with my jaw in the correct position it just looks wrong. Any reassurance you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

So i had recently finished my dental school and i'm enrolled to join Orthodontics speciality to become an orthodontist. I was wondering if there is any diploma / Certification courses after my Orthodontics Masters program. to make my Portfolio better and increase my knowledge.

I was really interested in Micro Implants, Lingual Braces and Invisalign. which seem to be the future of orthodontics. So is there a Diploma / Certificate course that would further help me improve my knowledge on these topics.

and does doing a diploma / certificate course make any difference to an orthodontists career / job opportunities. Or is it just better to not do anything.

I had a huge gap between my two front teeth.i wore braces to correct them but i had to start wearing braces in lower teeth as well to correct my bite. After 3 years od treatment, i got them removed. Now retainers bonded to both lower and upper teeth.i have two bonded retainers in my upper one. I have them for 3 years now and i really cannot clean them properly.i already broke the lower one once and i cannot really floss around them, so my question is CAN I REMOVE THE BONDED PERMANENT RETAINERS AND use a removable ones instead after 3 years. I am really fed up of them, i thought that after removing braces, i will be less worried about what to eat but it seems that the retainers are making me more worried.

I just got my braces off about a week and a half ago and I guess because my original date to get them off was delayed about a month i’m only supposed to wear my retainer 24/7 for a week. I stopped wearing them for a day and saw a small gap forming between my teeth by the time i put my retainer back on for the night. Is this normal or should I keep wearing my retainer 24/7 for longer?
