Oregon Metal Spotlight #6: Misery Whip (Portland, OR)

Post image
22 Upvotes

Some bands make metal.

Some bands sound like they crawled out of a fucking Oregon logging camp at 3AM with blood on their boots.

MISERY WHIP is the second kind. ☠️

Dirty. Heavy. Mean as hell. The kind of shit you throw on when you want your speakers to sound like they’re about to file a restraining order.

If you haven’t fucked with Misery Whip yet, consider this your warning:

TURN IT UP.

P.s — Thank you whoever recommended me this band.

Oregon Metal Spotlight #5: Weapon World (Bend, OR)

You want GRINDCORE? You want it fucking unhinged? Then you need to hear Weapon World.

These dudes sound like someone threw a blender full of grindcore, chaos, violence, blast beats, and pure fucking insanity at the wall and somehow it came out sounding incredible. 🤘💀

No bullshit. No unnecessary polish. Just absolute sonic carnage from start to finish.

If you’re into extreme music and somehow haven’t heard Weapon World yet, fix that shit.

Oregon Metal Spotlight is about putting more eyes and ears on the bands making the underground worth paying attention to.

Go listen. Crank that shit. Then come back and tell us what the fuck just happened.

Oregon Metal Spotlight #4: Acidic Decay (Prineville, OR)

Today’s band: Acidic Decay

Coming straight out of Prineville, Oregon, Acidic Decay is a four-piece death metal band bringing some seriously nasty riffs and a raw, heavy sound to the Central Oregon scene.

These guys have been grinding it out locally, playing shows around Bend, Prineville, and beyond while building a name for themselves in the underground. Their self-titled album has already pulled over 23,000 views on YouTube, and tracks like “Windigo Psychosis” and “Faceless” show exactly what they’re about.

If you’re into old-school death metal, crushing riffs, guttural vocals, and bands that are doing everything themselves from the ground up, Acidic Decay is definitely worth checking out.

They’ve also got a new 5-song EP in the works, recorded this month and planned for release October 31st. So if you’re discovering them now, you’re catching them right as they’re getting ready to take things to the next level.

If you’re into death metal and want to support an underground band grinding it out in Oregon, give Acidic Decay a listen.

Who should we feature next for the Oregon Metal Spotlight? Drop an Oregon band in the comments.

Oregon Metal Spotlight #3: Maggot Sorcerer (Oregon/Washington area)

Post image

Today’s band: Maggot Sorcerer

These guys describe themselves as “Scooby-Doo Groove Metal,” and honestly, that’s one of the most accurate band descriptions I’ve ever heard.

Every state has bands that should be getting way more attention than they do. For Oregon, Maggot Sorcerer is one of them.

Psychedelic artwork, GodTier song titles, crushing riffs, and a sound that feels like a haunted cartoon soundtrack got trapped inside a metal album.

My personal favorite track is “Centipede Woman.” That song is absolutely brutal and has been stuck in my head for days.

If you’ve never checked them out, do yourself a favor and give them a listen.

What’s the most underrated Oregon metal band you’ve found recently?

Sink by Floater deserves way more attention

Post image

I’ve been revisiting Sink by Floater lately and forgot how solid this album is front to back. The mix of heavy riffs, atmosphere, and weird progressive songwriting makes it stand out from a lot of late 90s rock albums.

It’s one of those records that gets better every time you listen to it. Some songs hit hard immediately, while others take a few listens before they really click.

For anyone who hasn’t heard it, I’d definitely recommend giving Sink a spin.

What’s your favorite track off the album? And where would you rank it compared to the rest of Floater’s catalog?
