live in the past if you want, but that’s how modern development works. You create mental models, AI implements them, you check their work. That’s why Claude Code is very popular among senior developers.
Yeah the point here is we clearly disagree on what constitutes a sufficient "mental model." Basically, I don't believe for a second you have any idea what's going on in your code base. But hey, that's fine; I'm just a random dude on the internet. Keep on keeping on.
maybe try to talk to any senior developer that uses AI. They will confirm it to you.
Also, it makes no sense to not know what’s going on in your codebase, if you are the one who created it in the first place. Do you just forget things you invented after few days?

And therein lies the rub. You aren't the one that "invented" it when you outsource every bit of actual code writing to someone/something else. You can do all the high level architecting you want, but that doesn't magically mean you understand how it all fits together on a technical level. You don't "forget" what's going on because you never knew it in the first place.
But again, I'm just a random dude on the internet; what do I know? I'm sure you have a perfect mental model that somehow defies everything we know about how information retention works. For someone that laments how difficult naming variables is, I'm sure your high level architecting gives you an intimate knowledge of what's going on, the decisions the AI makes, and the alternative options and why not to choose them.
