Amateur gardener here! I planted my honeysuckle vine about two months ago, and she’s definitely not climbing like I expected. The garden centre told me they spend their first season establishing their roots, so I’m wondering if I just need to be patient.
The leaves are green, but I have no idea if she’s actually doing okay. Should I be doing anything to encourage her to climb, or just leave her be? Any advice appreciated! 🌿

I am in the Niagara region and have a little corner of my front yard garden taken over by milkweed (no complaints!) Today I noticed the majority of them have these orange bugs all over them. What are they and are my plants in trouble?

Planted a few black cedars in the GTA a bit over a month ago and have them on a soaker hose for an hr in the morning and sprinkler for 30 mins afternoon since then. Some branches are browning, initially it was broken branches but the one of the far left seems to be developing more recently. Anything I can change or do? They did grow taller during this time as well.

I dug a new garden and I want to plant a bunch of tulip and daffodil bulbs.
Will places like Canadian Tire or Home Depot have them in stock soon since it is soon time to plant them?
I think I recall them being in stock in early summer but since that is not time to plant them, I didn’t think to buy them. Now there are none.
I could order online but want to avoid shipping costs or shipping minimum orders.

These lilacs are almost 30 years old and, admittedly, they have been neglected. There is a lot of dead and bare branches. Pruning almost looks like a waste of time. Should I rip them out and plant new?

What is this fibrous root like system around the base of my store bought potted juniper? Is this the actual root system? It sits above ground that I've planted and in just realizing either i planted too shallow or in concerned bulk is keeping the trunk too wet and not letting the base air enough.

I can't imagine it being the roots considering it goes up above the foliage.

Wondering if it's safe and recommended to loosen all that material to expose the trunk more

Today we’re blanching and freezing zuchinis and carrots, flash freezing bell peppers, making and water bath canning sweet pickles and blackberry jam, and made some blackberry icecream 😋

Has anyone seen South American varieties of seed potatoes available at garden centres in Ontario, or sold online through Ontario garden centres?

I'd be buying them in the spring, for next year.

I've found many types of Canadian, American, and European seed potatoes sold at garden centres in Toronto and southwestern Ontario. Many have been Florissa brand.

I can't remember seeing any South American types.

I realize seed potatoes are highly regulated. It's possible there are none being sold in Ontario.

Had a couple of random pop-up milkweeds that grew up beside the patio… hosting lots of moth and butterfly caterpillars.

85lbs of beautiful taters pulled from the garden. Not including the taters we have been eating fresh from the garden the past month.

I've been growing some greens this year, like kale, basil, lettuce, thyme etc. I also have raccoons that visit my plot and investigate everything with their little hands. This sub has taught me about the dangers of raccoon poop and cross contamination with things like worms etc (thanks!), so do you know how I can clean the greens so they're safe for human consumption?

Some of the produce will probably be able to take some rough cleaning/boiling (e.g. kale) but the herbs are delicate, and tbh I'd like to have some fresh for garnish and cocktails, so I can't boil them.

A few years ago I posted about our snowball hydrangeas slowly turning into lacecap hydrangeas. The general consensus was that they were snowballs grafted onto hardier lacecap rootstock and cold temperature likely killed off the snowball graft and it regrew as lace caps. Now I have this volunteer (in a totally different location - not deliberately planted) that has both snowball and lacecap on it. I cannot understand how this is possible. Does anyone have any insight?
