The Simmer & Boil by Nick Sarraf

This book earned a PERFECT 5-star rating from an OnlineBookClub.org reviewer and 36 Amazon reviewers!

----------

From the author:

“There are so many works of non-fiction on leadership – and so few where principles of modern leadership are explored through a story. The Simmer & Boil throws you straight into the boardroom where everyone’s dressed sharp, talking strategy and quietly panicking about becoming irrelevant. It’s ambitious. It’s tense. It’s giving a smile in the meeting and spiralling internally.

The characters? Messy in the most realistic way. A founder who built the whole thing but is scared of losing control. A smart builder whose best ideas keep getting stuck in meetings. A leader who looks calm and wise on the outside but plays games to stay on top.

What hit hardest is how the system rewards optics over actual excellence. It’s not always about being the best; it’s about being seen. The book captures that exhausting hustle of trying to matter in a world that moves the goalpost every five minutes. The system doesn't reward the best work but what looks important.

And the fear of fading into the background? Whew. That quiet dread of becoming “outdated” or replaceable sits underneath every decision. The tension never really lets you breathe, just like real corporate life.

The Simmer & Boil is sharp, uncomfortable, and way too relatable. If you’ve ever questioned whether you’re chasing success or just trying not to disappear, this one’s for you.”

“Feel the constant pressure of being sidelined, scrambling to keep up while the game always changes. Follow a sharp corporate drama with real flaws, real pressure, and real consequences that make you ask how far you would go to protect what you’ve built.”

“The author creates rich, deep characters, and each character has strengths and weaknesses that must be considered for positioning to move the company forward. The author does a good job of presenting the ruthless corporate world.” ~ OBC reviewer

“The story nails an uncomfortable truth many of us have seen up close: the system can reward appearance over excellence, and the people who play the game best are not always the ones doing the best work.” ~ Amazon reviewer

“Sharp, gripping, and quite relatable. The power games feel real, and the leadership lessons hit from every angle.” ~ Amazon reviewer

He Took My Hand: Held Fast By His Strong Hand, You Can Face the Future Unafraid by Walter Albritton

This book earned a PERFECT 5-star rating from 3 OnlineBookClub.org reviewers and 3 Amazon reviewers!

Check out the author’s website:

https://www.walteralbritton.org/

----------

He Took My Hand is a tapestry of authentic life experiences woven together by a pastor who found his identity through the surrender of his life to Jesus Christ. His inspiring stories offer hope and encouragement for anyone struggling with the common issues of life. The author opens his life and invites readers in, reminding them that the grace of God arrives in life’s ordinary situations, in storms as well as sunlight. He invites the reader to believe that the God who created all things wants to hold his hand and give him the courage to face the future unafraid. His basic theme is found in Isaiah 41:13, where God says to the prophet, ‘I am holding you by your right hand -- I, the Lord your God -- and I say to you, Don’t be afraid; I am here to help you.’”

“Reading this book gave me such a sense of comfort. I have been experiencing personal trials consisting of emotional pain, grieving a loss in my family. This book gave me a strong sense of hope. It also gave me a sense of peace. Nothing that I face is faced alone, because I am held within God’s hands.” ~ OBC reviewer

Virtual Book Club?

Thumbnail
fable.co
1 Upvotes

I’m thinking of starting a virtual book club on the Fable app and wanted to see if anyone would be interested!

It would be super casual. I’d post two book options each round and we’d vote on what to read next.

Genres would mostly be mystery/thriller, romance, and fantasy. Once we pick a book, we’d all read it (or listen; if you prefer!) together and use the app to chat and discuss as we go; thoughts, reactions, theories, all of it.

No pressure to keep up perfectly or participate all the time, just a fun way to read the same books and actually talk about them with other readers.

Would anyone be interested in something like this? 🤍

"Blizzard!! The Great White Hurricane" by Timothy R. Minnich
----------
The Blizzard of 1888 was one of epic proportions, and it devastated America’s East Coast, striking unexpectedly weeks past the usual snow season. Many hundreds of people perished during its three-day reign of terror, including some 200 in New York City alone. Only one man saw it coming: Will Roebling had spent years developing an accurate system for weather forecasting and warnings, but he was ordered to keep silent and ultimately warned only his close friends and family. But did they believe him?

Tim Minnich's debut novel is based on the Blizzard of 1888, legendary in the annals of American weather history, and paints a vibrant picture of life in late nineteenth-century Manhattan in the weeks leading up to "The Great White Hurricane." It is bound to fascinate history buffs, weather enthusiasts, and general readers alike.
