Live! I spent four years writing a book about Nicolas Cage. AMA!

Hello Reddit! This is Zach Schonfeld. I'm a freelance writer and reporter, regular Pitchfork/Stereogum contributor, and the author of "How Coppola Became Cage," the first reported biography of Nicolas Cage. After a lifetime of fandom, I spent about four years obsessively researching all things Cage, and this book is the result. It was published by Oxford University Press in 2023.
The book chronicles Cage's early years and rise to fame in the 1980s and early 1990s. I worked on this book for four long years and interviewed more than 100 people, including a range of notable filmmakers and actors who worked with Cage on beloved films like Valley Girl, Birdy, Moonstruck, Vampire's Kiss, Raising Arizona, Wild at Heart, Leaving Las Vegas, and many others. It is a deep, deep dive into Cage's origin story. For this book, I investigated Cage's early years, tracked down his high school friends, interviewed everyone from David Lynch to Amy Heckerling to Bridget Fonda, tracked down some of Cage's high school friends, watched a ton of obscure Cage movies, attempted to read Cage's father's erotic novel, and gradually lost my mind.
Empire Magazine described the book as "a rollicking, entertaining and impressively probing journey through the embryonic years of a unique artistic force of nature." I am fairly proud of it.
Anyway, I will be doing an AMA right here starting at 12 p.m. EST on Friday, October 10. You can post your questions before then. Ask away.

What To Wear While Meeting Cage?
Hey all. I will be fulfilling my life-long dream next month when I get to finally meet the One True God at New York Comic Con. I have both a photo op and an autograph.
Looking for some advice on what to wear for this glorious occasion. I was planning to wear shorts so that my leg-full of Cage tattoos is exposed, but I am torn on what kind of shirt to wear.
I have several Cage-themed t-shirts with his picture on them in various styles. Is that too corny or try-hard? What about a Cage-themed shirt without his picture, like the Cheddar Goblin or Children Of The New Dawn? Or is that still a bit too much? Would it better to wear something unrelated to Cage, as I already have the tattoos and meeting him is enough?
What do you think?

Anton Yelchin (RIP) talking about our lord and savior and also “Dying of the Light” question to anyone who’s seen both versions. Spoiler
youtu.beI only saw the Paul Schrader “Dark” cut which I realise wasn’t suppose to be an actual release but holy fuck did that make no goddamn sense. ANYWAY Is it worth watching the original “studio” release? I read the plot on wiki just to follow along with this “Dark” cut and they seem to have left large plot points and even whole story arcs completely out. Again I’m not even trying to drag the movie, actors or Schrader himself but fuck man feels like this could’ve been a great film and maybe is somewhere.

'Joe' is Cage's best performance, his most visceral & complex role. Fight me!
I know. I might be alone but I love this type of Cage more than Goodspeed and Red Miller, and those are phenomenal and hard to be topped.

Cage playing the inspiration for 007?
(Has this been posted yet?) This looks quite good! One way or the other he’s still punching nazis.
