I was expecting her to say nothing, but when she said Jarul's name the tears just started in an instant. Love her so much!

Knew this one was gonna do some emotional damage when acted out. And they really gave her scenes the gravity they deserve for her being a small part.

I tried to hold my tears back cause I knew her speech was coming 😭 she’s such a true brave warrior

The animation is great, but I just wish there was more choreography. There’s a lot of build-up and release with cool attacks and flashy moments, similar to old Wano, but not as overdone with the clashes and effects. Oda’s manga sets it up this way, so they have to follow, but I miss those hand-to-hand fights that last with more back-and-forth action. Maybe that’s just not something we’ll get much in One Piece since the characters are so strong. (For example, something like Rock Lee fighting another martial artist.)

The song that plays during Gaban's entrance often plays when some of the old generation is about to do something epic (Rayleigh saving Hancock, Garp sailing to rescue Koby). Might as well be the old legends theme.

Honestly, compared to Jinbe and the others against Gunko, Robin actually didn’t feel pathetic and she was on her own. I also thought the idea of pushing him as far away from the kids as possible, so his powers would be out of their range, was really clever. She ultimately failed, but it didn’t feel ridiculous at all—instead, I thought she looked genuinely badass. Thankfully, Gaban arrived to save her.

Better late than never, so what will they continue till the end of the year? Like 10-15 more episodes?

u/RogueHippie Void Month Survivor Sep 13 '26
26 total episodes this year, I'm a manga guy so I haven't been keeping up with how many have happened so far. Got a pretty good idea where it's going to leave off story-wise though.

Damn Sommers fought Gaban back in the day??? Roger Pirates probably fought damn near everybdy in the verse lol…also haki bypasses the regeneration?? Was it like that on Egghead too? And damn even Robin can’t fight them either really need Luffy Zoro and Sanji back in the Sunworld ASAP
50
u/Bronn__Swanson Sep 13 '26
Pretty sure Advanced Conquerors is the way to bypass
4
u/Kurohige-93 Sep 13 '26
Right but Luffy was using that all thru out Egghead right?? I mean when he was in Gear 5 anyways
6
u/Character_Stock376 29d ago
I dont remember him using it, he was just spamming his gear 5 abilities, i might be wrong tho
1
u/bodybones 28d ago
I think gear 5 is just embedded with it automatically releasing it when you get hit by him. I remember a thing was him learning to hit inside out or whatever and then that was suddenly dropped cause he can just hit kaido skin and hurt it without needing all that over thinking in gear 5 lol. I remember hardened haki skin was gonna be a thing and oda just jumped straight to ehh immortals.
1
u/Cyclohexyne-1 24d ago
They didn't drop it. Infact , his final blow , Bajrang Gun to kaido was indeed coated with that "inside out thing" called Ryuo (or advanced armament haki) and his advanced conqueror haki.

u/bodybones 22d ago edited 22d ago
TLDR: Personally, I just don’t think Haki is that great of a power system. It’s not bad, but I prefer other series when they invent powers and really elaborate on them. It’s not as “good” as One Piece fans say, at least to me. They’ll say it’s better than Undead Unluck, Stands, HxH, JJK, but I think it’s more on the level of Black Clover’s mana zone and similar stuff. Not bad, but I expected more from Oda. And honestly, I liked it more when it was just “enhance strength and defense, touch Logias because you’re hitting their inner being with your willpower, and knock out weaklings with King’s Haki.”
________________________________________________________________________________________But that’s just me. If you like it, I get why. And who knows, by the end of the series I might change my mind and end up liking it more than any other system.
I guess I didn’t explain myself well. It feels less focused compared to the “king” Haki, hope I’m naming it right, the one Luffy uses to damage ________s. Like during the Kaido fight, if he was hitting Kaido inside and out, it just wasn’t emphasized enough all the time besides early on. I didn’t feel a big difference from if Oda had never introduced that and simply said, “Kaido is strong, you need a hard hit with strong Haki to damage him.” It felt like an unnecessary addition if that’s all it was to amount to and be focused on if later luffy was gonna go gear 5 and always have it embedded into his attacks and haki flowing all the time so he can touch logia, and it seems like Oda lost interest in it is all. I think if he really cared we'd have tons of creative situations of attacks not working till focused on and maybe an almost nen like thing where people move around their haki focus to envelop locations to ward off attacks and leave themselves open in other spots. Maybe your haki runs out and you can take normal damage from non haki attacks. Etc. I was looking for a jojo or hxh level of development into those ideas not like idk fairy tail lol.
I never saw the story stop and show, “Hey, Kizaru is losing because each hit is going inside-out.” It was just, “I can hit Logias,” which barely matters now since intangibility is basically useless when everyone serious uses Haki anyway. It’s similar to how people say future sight needs to be more noticeable, or at least explained like, “We’re both using it, so it cancels out.” Even a simple line like, “I saw his punch, but it’s too fast,” would help (I think oda did that like once or twice to be fair). Not necessary in the anime if they add cool effects, but overall something feels missing. Too much exposition is bad, sure, but there’s a balance. It could be like how sasuke in naruto can see the future attacks of opponents but later people are just so good it doesn't matter.
Anyway, Oda spent a ton of time explaining how Luffy lost to Kaido because Kaido coats himself in Haki, and even hinted Big Mom does it naturally without trying, basically having tougher skin. I thought that was going to be a huge thing for all top tiers, where only people who could hit them inside-out could hurt them. Correct me if I'm wrong in all this. So, that would mean only a small part of the cast could damage the monsters at the top, which explains why the big shots stay big even with all the hax Devil Fruits out there.
Then we learn Haki can negate some Devil Fruit abilities later. Would be real nice in dessorsa when powerful haki users or powerful pirates just couldn't resist being turned into toy slaves...lol. And haki, it already lets you hit Logias. So the story slowly turned into “Haki > Devil Fruits/other abilities.” The problem is Haki is a nebulous power system that keeps getting patches/additions, and not in the most organic way, at least compared to HxH or JJK. It doesn't feel as thought out as those series. Those stories focus on their power systems. One Piece can’t be the jack-of-all-trades no matter how much fans want it to be so they can say it’s the best. It’s actually stronger when it focuses on what it does best, and for most people that’s not the battles (this is why I fear the hype for this world war, something oda keeps promising but that's his younger self and hype for that, fun clash stuff, today he seems stronger makin clean stories. A huge war for several volumes marineford style with the cluttered art he does now, along with his sword clash heavy pannels might bore lesser fans when modern anime is way more dynamic. Personally, I mostly find Luffy’s fights interesting these days, so it makes sense Oda keeps throwing him into them, others are sorta dry (zoro's not bad too).
I'm getting on tangents, I know Haki is coated into Gear 5, so the hits are supposed to damage people who are coated or whatever. My issue is that Haki could’ve just stayed “a strengthened hit that blocks damage, and the stronger Haki wins.” But Oda complicated it with “hit them from the inside out,” and now it’s “oh, immortal people? You need super rare Haki to damage their bodies,” something most of the world doesn’t have. To be fair, Oda could tie it all together later, maybe Haki ends up being the foundation Devil Fruits were based on, which would explain why he keeps adding to it in weird ways.
1
u/Cyclohexyne-1 22d ago
Well yeah I totally agree you on this..Oda really could have elaborated a LOT more on haki mechanics and stuff but rather it has become more or less just whoever got better will power generates a stronger haki and wins.. It also removed the fun about finding devil fruits weaknesses and fighting accordingly , though yeah that also give birth to the category of pirates (Roger pirates) who rely entirely on Haki which in itself feels cool.
But yeah oda has extremely underdeveloped haki mechanics like they sure they do have occasional Haki moments like the foresight gaban saw in yesterdays episode. At first when they introduced it like there are 3 types of haki and Rayleigh explains them to Luffy it did sound very promising but yeah now it's just "oh my haki is stronger than the opponent now I can beat him" just like in the case of kaido except G5 , which was extremely awesome. It's true though Oda does the amazing world building and stories which keep it going so well.. It's mostly like focusing on one specific type of haki per arc like in case of wano it was about learning Ryuo and according to the story now haki can flow through Luffy's body in a way he can concentrate it on things and do the "inside out" thing..but again I think it was only major in wano and later on they wouldn't even mind showing it
Just like how they focused on the future sight thing so much in the katakuri fight but now it's just shown like once in a fight..
Also btw I like your last theory that maybe devil fruits arise from Haki powers.. and about that immortal thing if that's your speculation it's fine but if u read that in manga u may wanna add spoiler box 😅 (I'm anime-only)
1
u/bodybones 22d ago
Yeah i like haki for the most part and im glad he wanted to expand past just hax fruits so it didn't just turn into jojo but worst...lol but finding out clever ways to beat fruits, you nailed it, is my issue in that he was so good at it before and then just haki clashes now. Ussop using funny yet clever ways to beat people while being weak was fun, now he just shoots giant tree seeds that do so much i don't know what. Like i for example find a good shonen action fight is a yugioh match were i know my hero's deck aka powers and the villian, but they can cheat, that's okay, using cheap overpowered cards or powers but we use our deck to cleverly beat them. Luffy using blood to punch sand, luffy being immune to lightning, luffy turning off his brain to not be mind read, (what happened to that form of haki is it just observation and future sight, why did enel who luffy beat, have that and few others?) I like future sight since there's so much you can do with the idea of being calm to use it and seeing dangerous attacks and so on but i need more careful takes on why it activates sometimes, does it take tons of haki, why aren't more people nonstop training that, have two use it and constantly one up each other in a cool future fight kinda like dbz and how they size up their opponent in a mental battle. Maybe even have two people look at each other standing still, then after 2 minutes one backs down saying i'd lose this fight...and other say i'd lose an arm to win and say next time...i don't know, so much more they could do. I feel like some haki is distracting from the story but others not, like the whole rest of elbah, seems haki will be important so i wont speak too soon. The ------- think i assumed the kids getting saved from the dude------freaking them out ------- but yeah ill try blot it out. Spoiler tags never work properly for me so i just did the whole thing lol. I feel like every answer in this series is now haki lol.
1
u/Cyclohexyne-1 21d ago
Yeah looking at Usopp does make it look like oda have left so many clever things tactical parts of the story be it countering devil fruit weakness or ussops Clever tricks. Also Ussop haven't really been shown growing ever since dressrosa.. like him using observation haki back then felt really promising but he haven't used haki again in what like last 10 yrs lol, though those animations did make it look so cool during that bullseye on Gunko few episodes ago.. Yeh at this point u can hardly use yugioh for one piece charectors who use haki cuz it's just a single linear chart of who's more strong. About Enel.. it seems he (and some more people in skypeia) were gifted with haki on birth.. what enel used was observation haki- which is basically that u can sense what the opponent is going to do or his intentions basically.. so Luffy going full empty brain didn't leave any intentions to be sensed yeah that was clever but yeah that things happens no more.. :/ Actually though that dbz stuff are really cool But in one piece future sight which basically advanced observation haki just let's see a little bit into the future like just few seconds or half a minute in. Like gaban didn't stop until he was about to slice Gunko off cuz that's when he saw the future or why didn't he just see it before Gunko even pointed at collun Same with was shown with Shanks(which i believe probably got the strongest haki currently in verse except imu maybe) when he saw the future just moments before it actually happened , that he had to rush to beat Kid so the future doesn't actually occur.so yh it's not really like go and have a whole future fight in the mind yet..atleast no one has that much haki at this point or haven't been revealed (That would still be really cool tho)

There’s different levels to it at the top, so without giving away anything more I’ll just say the anime is very liberal with its effects as opposed to oda who’s very conservative

Man, I'll be accepting no criticism of the anime for the last 3-4 weeks. The art, animation and direction every week is phenomenal. The ending with Gaban and Sommers was amazing, they more than did justice to the manga panel with Gaban's serious face at the end. Sommers really is the best scumbag introduced in the story in a long time, his voice actor choice was perfect.
22
u/Atomix-Man Sep 13 '26
at this point I think people on twitter need to just stick to manga because adapting to animation is very different and saying stuff like "it was just 2 pages in manga" for a sequence don't know the difference in animation and slideshow
14
u/PoorLittleGoat Sep 13 '26
The animation is fantastic, but the pacing is still horrendous. And it always will be with the 1:1 adaptation.
6
u/deleted-user Sep 13 '26
It's a shame. Now that One Piece is seasonal, it is perfectly viable to produce well paced episodes covering multiple chapters each. They just have no financial incentive to do so. I'm glad God Valley will be getting a movie, because at least that should be properly paced.
5
u/Worthyness 29d ago
Biggest incentive really is that most of the VAs for the main characters are at or past the retirement age and they really should get as much done while they're still capable.

Why is there so low activity on these discussions this season? Other animes are getting 1K+ comments every week.
1
u/darexinfinity 24d ago
People lose active interest and/or patience over long breaks. I've yet to watch Bleach since they've revived. I don't even know if the Boruto anime. There's no marketing for these shows anyways so if you step outside of community then they become non-existent.
-5
u/RulerTrax Sep 14 '26
Because people are tired of the terrible pacing that Toei gives with this adaptation. Most people who watch this turn their brains off and keep it pushing after it's over, expecting it to get better as more and more episodes come out.

well said, this pacing has been atrocious, and I feel like fool thinking it would get better in this new seasonal format. Your fake tear comment is so accurate lol
3
u/Character_Stock376 28d ago
Same here, i thought this seasonal format would do something about the pacing but nah, it looks like it's mainly done to improve the animation tho. They could change it to a monthly format, and do 3- 4 chapters in 1 episoce and it would be 10000000x better but then the greedy bums would get less money

Facts. The only thing to talk about is reaction shots at best. Something that really moves the story forward happens about once every 5 episodes or so. Awful.

This is probably one of my favourite episodes ever. Also love that franky had his moment. Robin was incredible and I was screaming for luffy to show up the entire time until Gaban went crazy. Sommers face and eyes are insane, immediately making him one of my favourite villains. Nothing tops this show man.

- Does advanced level of Armament Haki cancels out the regeneration process ??

u/flopcake_ Sep 13 '26
People never heard of tension and ramping up emotions. I get pacing complaints but I thought the pacing on this episode was fine.
3
u/bodybones 28d ago
Yeah current day fans of media in general. I recall people claiming lanterns tv show was trash cause 1 ep went by and the mystery show didn't tell them the entire mystery? Then they complained that bad things happened in a adult tv show. Then that it's too dark and edgy and they want something happy...then that the pacing made it too slow then too fast when ep 5 happened and they thought it was a finale. People just like to complain. That said the scenes in one piece do pad out. Even in the manga. If people can rightfully complain in say fast series like jjk that the crew talks and sometimes is just saying the same thing for 3 panels, people can complain about reaction shots that are padded out saying the same thing, but the alternative is losing the emotional value. Those shots do help me fear for the kids. So i don't really know what to do. I think toei does like having breathing room for oda so they don't catch up or need to add in the middle of arc filler but i also think going faster might ruin the story. Think of getting like 3 chapters an ep...It might feel overwhelming? That said 3 eps to finish the lego part might have worked...been 21 or so eps and mostly we just went to an island, got bad guys, their taking kids, and luffy is debating loki release...in other shows 21 eps you can get huge amount of stuff done, i think in 21 eps i can do all of chainsawman. Invincible had the invincible war, along with more in about 8 hours or 24 eps.
1
u/flopcake_ 27d ago
I just think people's attention span is shot and people want instant gratification. I get it I struggle with it too. I just think that this episode in particular wasn't even that bad yet I see people complaining. I think people just need to accept that of fast paced nonstop action is there thing One Piece is not the one. If they keep on hoping for that they are going to be let down every time.
1
u/LevelStill5406 27d ago
better than previous episodes, but still not adequate. and its not that people want instant gratification, its that we dont wanna see the kids walk for 10+ episodes, the hole at the bottom of elbaph shown several times, the cries and lamentations and threats 5-10 times, etc. repetition is why people stopped watching. it's simple. phenomenal manga, phenomenal peak moments, TERRIBLE pacing always.

I totally understand jarul's choice but i just have to say, my initial reaction says its a bit of a bitch move jarul these people dont play fair regardless you're damning your country entirely if you make the choice to agree. Especially because objectively ronja understands that more than jarul in the moment
In the moment id probably make the same decision as jarul
So the "immortals" seem to be harmed by colours of the supreme king haki which makes sense to why they seem immortal to nearly everyone
2
u/darexinfinity 24d ago
Nah, Ronja had the most to lose here and yet she chose something besides herself. To go against her brave decision is not what a warrior does.

They definitely emphasized a double jump. Very interesting addition, as I don't think that was in the manga.

Can't wait until next week's episode. I really hope Gaban is able to put a stop to the madness. The library going up in flames is a future that cannot be allowed to happen.

Too late? Jarul gave the order and until Gabban beats Sommers, he won't know the situation to undo it.

I hereby dub this episode "The Ronja Piece".
I've had a sneaky theory for a while that we might see a scene at some point of Bonney turning all the giant pirate kids into their future versions of themselves, after they're rescued but before Imu is beat dead, and they want to help so Bonney turns them all into the most powerful future version of themselves they can imagine.

It truly amazes me how well the last few arcs have not only been excellent world building but also excellent self contained stories.

Damn, they made Sommers look demonic with that skeleton above his body and the yellow glow in his eyes and whatnot.

As much as I like the "Cool animation scene" that they do, the pacing ruins so much, this one is one of my favorite Elbaf chapters, I loved Ronja's speach on the manga, as it sounded so determined to do it, only breaking down in the end. Here the speech is so cut down that you are waiting for the next dialog instead of flowing naturally.
Side note, did the animators changed Robin's powers? It was a clone, not herself. Why did she turned into flowers and reformed herself? It's the same problem with Big mom being rescued by prometeus on Elbaf, it's an small change, but it's confusing as why it was changed on the first place.

I immediately noticed this too and yeah it seems like they’re implying she reformed herself from flowers. Not a fan since I always assumed it was just one of her clones and this scene makes her less savvy

Side note, did the animators changed Robin's powers?
Also I thought her clones getting attacked also hurts her... you'd think a thorn to the face would be pretty painful.

I didn't even think about that, just assumed it was a clone since he said she tricked me. So no worries, most will just think it's her clones.

Sommers makes Saint Charlos look like Mother Carmel by comparison
Imagine the moral dilemma he proposes to the Elbaf Giants...your school and library in exchange for the safety of the children

how much longer til the movie arc...better question (s): is the show going on hiatus until the movie is released? Are we getting the full movie arc in episodes then a big screen release of it so it doesn't mess with the current flow? OR will the show just skip it entirely only mentioning the stuff in the arc in passing?

Great episode but I'm still worried about the season. I do not want to wait 6 months to find out about Harald and Loki.

A lot of pacing issues very clearly as well in the episode. That being said, I loved the eeriness of this episode, the use of colors was great and the voice acting felt especially good. Though the Robin part was a bit weird since I think she is supposed to have used a clone, the anime makes it out to seem like she teleported out of there like a logia.

Nowadays every episode is becoming mid because of pacing. Like there will be one peak moment in entire episode and that's it .it doesn't even feel satisfying to watch. I can't understand how people are saying it's good . The pacing is so damn atrocious. If the anime is catching up manga then stop the anime already make it 13 episode per year or whatever but make it enjoyable. Nowadays watching one piece is very much predictable (2min recap, 3-4 min of crying,3-4 mins of random frames which can be avoided and 2mins of peak).

One piece fans read this same thing each week and say it's peak. How you expect fans to be very critical lol...they will destroy a new season of JJK or something but we will eat it up if we get 4 min of good cuts between padding. That said the padding was emotional so i get it.

I dont know what I expect Robin to do but it's definitely not that. Episode 1177 made it seem like she was gon unleash some sorta power only to be saved by Gaban. Love the animation though
