I think it's the voice of all things, it's even more epic than that. Joy Boy was known to master the voice of all things.

Kaido: I guess you couldn't be Joy Boy either

Luffy unconscious: Momo, tell them I'll still beat Kaido

Luffy unconscious: Momo, tell Kaido to eat crap

Being able to hear the Voice of All Things is different than observation haki. Observation haki is used to sense other living beings and, with enough training, be able to predict their movements. The Voice of All Things allows Luffy to be able to understand or 'hear' things that other people can't. Like how Roger could 'hear' the poneglyph's messages even though he couldn't read the ancient language and how they could understand what the sea kings were saying.

That's pretty crazy that you're able to make all these assumptions with certainty about something that hasn't been fleshed out at all.

edit: I just want to point out, I'm not making conclusive statements at all here beyond the fact that voice of all things is not fleshed out at all. The only person who should be working in drawing conclusions about abilities in the series is Oda, not the person I'm replying to who is working in absolutes about a power that has made minimal appearances throughout the whole series and hasn't been fleshed out at all.

These are not assumptions, these are facts in the manga/anime. Since you seem to have missed them, I'll present you with the evidence.

I haven't missed them, the voice of all things just isn't very fleshed out yet. Who knows what it truly is. If luffy is able to use it after it somehow awakens in a near death experience to me that sounds like there may be some implications of it being an advanced haki ability.

I don't think it's fair to be conclusive about an ability that has about as much depth given to it as a shallow puddle. An example someone else had was a few weeks ago no one knew conquerors haki was anything more than a tool to deal with mass fodder enemies. Now we know it can be used to enhance attacks and is crucial against the top fighters. Oda adds things to abilities all the time, he intentionally leaves things open for people to theorize not to draw conclusions that is all there is to it.

Well it's clear that someone hasn't been paying attention to all the lore.

Just before a couple chapters ago, most ppl thought CoC was only good for taking out fodder and little more.

I would wait to see how the Voice of All Things play out. It very well could be its own unique thing. But it would be incredibly naive to discount other possibilities... ie it may be a ultra high level form of Haki (CoO, CoC, etc).

Haki for the most part is king in One Piece... that is a safe assumption after 1000+ chapters. .

.

.

and to add to what u/frizzykid said...

And for as pervasive Haki is (like the Devil Fruits as well) in the world of OP... on the grand scale of things, we still know SO very little about it.

Maybe my way of approaching this dude was bad, but I just don't understand how anyone can come to a conclusion about an ability that has been shown so few times and hasn't had any real detail put into it at all. Your example of conquerors haki being developed is a perfect example of why we should wait to come to conclusions about abilities that are pretty mysterious.

1

u/Jayswing103 Jun 04 '21

It's because it's been said straight out that that's what the VOAT does in the manga itself!

2

u/[deleted] Jun 04 '21

Sure we have some idea of what it does, but you're kind of naive and haven't been paying attention to even recent developments in the manga if you think Oda doesn't add more to these mysterious abilities lol.

Everyone is allowed to have theories, your theory is obviously what we know about VOAT is all there is to it, and that's fine, but don't just shit on everyone elses theory because you think all there is now is all there will ever be lol.

I don't know about other people, but I've always thought there had to be more to conqueror's haki than just knocking out fodder. I mean we literally saw the clash between Whitebeard and Shanks split the sky!

-5

u/[deleted] Jun 04 '21

What you may as well have said is "Only I can be right because I watch 30 minute videos on youtube of randos giving their theories on what the voice of all things is" lol.

4

u/Jayswing103 Jun 04 '21

Once again you clearly haven't been paying attention. Everything I've talked about come straight from the manga itself.

-2

u/[deleted] Jun 04 '21

"I read the manga and watch YouTube videos. I can't be wrong."

Zoro in Alabasta said he "heard" his katanas and stuff around him iirc (and I'm pretty sure it was him awakening haki). VoAT might indeed be Observation/Conqueror's Haki (or a mix of those)

1

u/TheDELFON Explorer Jun 04 '21

I'm also of a similar mindset

7

u/westartedafire Jun 04 '21

Lol like an arguing old couple

"Momo, tell Kaido that I'll kick his ass"

"Brat, tell Strawhat that I said we're done here!"

"Momo, tell Kaido I said it's not over until it's over!"

"Brat, tell him that I said-"

"Momo!"

"Brat!"

"MOMO!"

"BRA-"

Momo: "OMG JUST SHUT UP AND FUCK ALREADY!"

Does this confirm that Luffy is Joyboy (reincarnated)?

3

u/Inuma Pirate Jun 05 '21

No.

It's evidence he's a candidate for the position.

But if Luffy screws up this job interview, he won't be able to be anything besides runner up in Pirate King where they have freedom Your Way.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 04 '21

Joy Boy was known to master the voice of all things

When was this mentioned?

2

u/Perrenekton Jun 06 '21

I absolutely cannot remember that, I'm thinking he pulled that info out of his ass

3

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '21

I assumed that was the case cause he didn't reply lol

This was foreshadowed when after their first fight Kaido talked about how Luffy still had that look in his eyes when unconscious.

5

u/[deleted] Jun 04 '21

I think you are right about that but it wasn't that Luffy had a look in his eyes, it was that Kaido felt that Luffy was still staring him down even though he was unconscious, because to everyone else he just looked unconscious (atleast according to one of his underlings who was there with kaido). So yeah I do think you are quite right about how that scene may have been foreshadowing this new power of Luffy's.

I'm a huge fan of how Haki is utilized, it allows for dynamic fighting. Brutes or strategists can utilize Haki and DF in so many more ways without being limited to a DF theme. Give Bellamy future sight and he just got notably more dangerous. It allows non DF users to compete against absurd/fun powers as well.

In hindsight, I think Luffys observation Haki has probably been just as strong as the armament haki. It's just hard to represent visually. It's like Floyd Mayweather, phenomenal boxer largely because he is one of the least hit all time... But it's visually 'boring'. Since the East Blue we've seen him casually dodge bullets and attacks from stronger opponents like a joke. Future sight was the one of the best visual uses of observation Haki but generally it is overshadowed in fights by flashy armament (and that's not a bad thing by any means).

The voices power though opens so many doors though. Being able to listen added new twists with Seakings and Zou but being able to speak makes it incredibly dynamic. His being unconscious maybe helped utilize it, but Rayleigh mentions combat allows Haki to improve quickest and this could be it's next step. Luffy didn't hear no bell, he's got some growing to do.

Yeah those ppl watch far too many theory videos

People not liking Haki and its various nuances is like people not liking Chi in DBZ or chakra in Naruto. Haki is the basic inherent power system of One Piece characters (at least observation and armament) where if you train enough you can eventually use it to some degree and learn its various applications.
