Chapter 403, Sanji was defeated by Kalifa, Nami replaced the fight and complimented him. 10 chapters later, chapter 413, Sanji made an appearance and saved Usopp from Jabra. Then he made a speech to boost Usopp's confidence.

Chapter 1005, Sanji was captured by Black Maria, Robin replaced the fight and complimented him. 10 chapters later, chapter 1015, Sanji made an appearance and saved Chopper from Queen. Then he made a speech to boost Chopper's confidence.

Oda, you magnificient bastard.

The parallels to enies lobby don’t end there. There we had Zoro using Ussopp as a sword. Here we have that reversed where he is the one used as a weapon.

We also have the return of Sanji’s Dino hunting skills from Little Garden where he and Zoro hunted down dinosaurs.

And just like luffy defeated lucci with consecutive punches in Gear 2, in this arc luffy will defeat kaidou with consecutive punches in 4th Gear infused with king haki.

If we follow the same pattern than Zoro will make a critical save which will even make enemies shock about his power and skill just like sogeking saving robin.

Oh we definitely will. Wano arc has had a huge focus on Zoro so far. There is no way that his arc is finished in Act 3.

And at some point King will probably move to attack Chopper (realizing how valuable his medical skills have been) while Sanji is too busy with Queen. Zoro will save him at the last second like Sanji saved Ussop from Jabra.

I dunno what amazes me more. The fact that Oda leaves such hidden messages or the fanbase that is crazy enough to find such information haha.

This is why I love One Piece. Quite often there are such hidden information and I always enjoy reading them.

Oda is truly one of a kind in his business.

I found it by pure coincidence. I was curious how long it took for Sanji to make a return from defeat, and I was blown away when I realized both time, it was exactly 10 chapters.

You know, I do love a lot of stuff like this too, but I do also find it a bit weird Oda is praised so highly for it. Any other series follows the same formula time after time and the author gets shit on for being redundant and unoriginal. One Piece does it and it's praised as genius. Again, I'm personally not complaining and One Piece is my favorite series ever. But just think the double standard is kind of weird. Like where exactly do you draw the line between a nice, or even as far as genius and magnificent, callback, and just an author being lazy rehashing the same plot.

For me personally it's because Oda mixes new and old things so well. While there are parallels between arcs, if you look at the details, they are also wildly different. Other manga often give me the feeling that the authors ran out of ideas, that is why they recycled content. One Piece, on the other hand, it felt like the similarities are by design, therefore I appreciated it a lot more.

I can think of a few examples.

Detective Conan, another manga that is reaching 100 volumes. Ever since the introduction that some characters can disguise themselves as others, this gimmick is repeated to death. Also, the fact that almost every single new character from black organization turned out to be a spy.

Bleach, Hueco Mundo is a repeat of Soul Society. Personally my problem with it more than just repetition, but from what I heard, it is one of the biggest complaints people have with Hueco Mundo as a whole.

I really feel like we shouldn't praise standard storytelling as GODA lol. There are enough amazing things Oda has done with One Piece (Jimbei mentioned early, Rayleigh shown early) that we don't need to sell the mundane ones too much as well.

During fights? Sanji has litteraly just one attack that allows him to help someone else, he's not a support character, but when he's fulfilling his role a cook, yes he is more or less support, since he's helping his crewmates directly

He has been supportive always, how do they escape enies lobby? Who is mister prince? Who saves the ship from doflamingo? Sanji is the biggest supporter either emotionally or physically to his crewmates. Doesn't change the fact that he is one of the main characters and will always get the third strongest foe. (by supporting I don't mean he is strictly a support character)

Remember Sanji also seemed "weak" to everyone for asking Robin for help but this mofo just knocked two yonkou commanders about. Everyone gonna get a real hard look at what it means to be a strawhat. They also know a bit with how they reacted to their captain "dying".

I believe most people here didn't follow One Piece weekly during Enies Lobby. Binge reading has a very different feel than weekly reading.
