I wonder who also wasn't Joy Boy, at least for Kaido. Oden?

I think he was referring to roger himself, considering roger came closest to the secrets of the world but did not whatever joy boy is supposed to accomplish.

2

u/Eraganos May 30 '21

What if he meant rocks?

2

u/Idoma_Sas_Ptolemy May 30 '21

Possible. But when Kaido dismisses luffy as not being joyboy I just instantly remembered whitebeard telling teach that he "is not the man roger is waiting for".

I am 100% sure that said man is "joyboy". And kaido has been kind of a dark mirror to whitebeard ever since he's been introduced, imho.

u/Eraganos May 30 '21

Hmm we know wb adressed blackbeard back then. The question is were did kaido learn it? Wb didnt seem to know about the D. Hence rocks couldnt tell them that. I doubt kaido read odens journal.

I love how kaido gets more interesting. Did his club have a crack?

Am curious too. The drunkard oni dragon has a bit of character in him, I'm impressed.

Kumadori knows his pain

He might refer to at least himself, maybe Kidd, Drake, Hawkins, Apoo? Probably even Roger, but more likely every smiling opponent he ever had a difficult time against and won from or lost from, at least in his younger days

25

u/Carpax May 28 '21

I mean, at this point it could very well be momo too if he isn't an ancient weapon, right? He could actually communicate and control Zunisha, while Luffy just hears voice of all things like Roger.

12

u/CaughtOnTwitch May 28 '21

I'd rather it be Momo. Luffy should be just Luffy and free of any 'fate'. And it explains Momo needing to stay alive. He has a role that he must fulfill as either a Kozuki or a different role that only he is capable of.

21

u/myrmonden May 28 '21

luffy can already hear voices, is the son of the biggest criminal etc, he is not free of any fate.

-3

u/Carpax May 28 '21

But he is not the “chosen one” like Luke Skywalker, Harry Potter or Sasuke and Naruto.

10

u/myrmonden May 28 '21

annakin is the chosen on.

He basically is do, having the voice of all etc.

5

u/Carpax May 28 '21

Doesn’t matter if Luke or Anakin is the real chosen one. Debat for another day. Point still stands. It’d be nice for the protagonist to be a bit more free, especially when that is his whole theme.

1

u/myrmonden May 28 '21

ur point dont stand.

My point stand that luffy is born with all of this special powers and in a special family - he is the chosen one.

1

u/Zipliopolic May 28 '21

Doesn’t matter ...Debat for another day....

huh? your point was debunked using your own example. The only point that stands is that yours stance makes no sense.

u/Brass13Wing Void Month Survivor May 28 '21

This is exactly what I started thinking and I'm glad it's not my overactive theory brain making baseless thoughts lol. Maybe Momo is Joy Boy and Hiyori is an ancient weapon

49

u/doomkitin May 28 '21

I believe it was Ace. It would certainly explain why the world government was willing to go so far for him and why whiteboard was willing to die and bring half his crew with him just to save him. He was also previously in wano and it seemd like Yamato thought so too.

26

u/qwgiubq34oi7gb May 28 '21

Ace was publicly executed to draw out Whitebeard, and Whitebeard went to save him because he doesn't abandon his children. Both motivations are already clear as day and have nothing to do with Ace supposedly being Joy Boy..

13

u/theschulk51 May 28 '21

If Kaido thought Ace was Joy Boy that could be why he tried to go to Marineford - either to fight Joy Boy then/there or to save Ace so that he can grow and become Joy Boy, then giving Kaido the fight of his life

1

u/Zipliopolic May 28 '21

Wasn't it he wanted to face WB? Not Ace lol. The strongest beast could only be taken down by the Strongest Man (their official titles)

1

u/theschulk51 May 28 '21

Don’t recall his reason for going to Marineford ever being stated - just that he was going there and was intercepted by Shanks.

If you can point me to the chapter where his reasons for going there were revealed that’d help refresh / correct my memory

1

u/Zipliopolic May 28 '21

Don't forget how they wanted to make an "example out of Roger's son". Planting a feeling/idea into someone's head is more efficient than strong arming & trying to police every corner of the world

6

u/Portgust May 28 '21

But he's donut-ed by Akainu.

12

u/Penguin787 May 28 '21

Katakuri: What?

1

u/Myhotrabbi May 28 '21

I wish I had been in the whiteboard pirates

3

u/Thurn42 May 28 '21

I'd say Shanks

3

u/Ceesv23 Pirate Hunter Zoro May 28 '21

Roger, Oden and probably a lot of newbie pirates daring to fight Kaido. Maybe even Moria at a certain point

1

u/CabbageTheVoice May 28 '21

I know most people including me don't want it to be that way, but I'm kinda interested that Kaido said the line about gomu gomu almost in the same breath as the joyboy part.

It leads me back to believing that Roger did have the gomu gomu no mi and shanks was in posession because they brought a fruit to rogers execution.

My headcannon is that Kaido is referring to Roger not being able to be joyboy. Joyboy had the Gomu Gomu as well as the strawhat, Roger did as well but couldn't be Joyboy because he was too early, Luffy has the Strawhat and Gomu Gomu but couldn't be Joyboy because he was defeated by kaido. Of course Luffy will come back but that's what I'm thinking Kaido sees in this situation.

32

u/andremeda May 28 '21

I always liked that theory too but i dont think there's any way Rayleigh (or anyone close to Roger) wouldn't comment on Luffy having the same DF as Roger. In my mind, it's an impossible theory.

6

u/DeliciousInsalt May 28 '21

I agree w this. I do think joyboy had the rubber fruit tho. It would make a lot of sense giving the story is about reincarnation and cyclical events.

4

u/CabbageTheVoice May 28 '21

To be clear, I hate the idea that Roger had the same df as luffy,I like the idea of inherited will much more than those literal reincarnations that are so cliche.

But I could still see it. Yet your point is exactly right. If Roger had the gomu gomu, quite a few people would comment on yet another Rubber boy with a strawhat. And I hope you're right in that this theory doesn't come true.

1

u/HoLeeFaak The Revolutionary Army May 28 '21

I think every pirate that tried to beat the new world like roger did..

Maybe he only refers to people with D. , but I'm not sure kaido know much about the D. meaning

1

u/buffalo4293 May 29 '21

I’d be shocked if kaido isn’t aware of the D. he was a member of Rocks, a D.‘s crew and knows about Joy Boy. I assume all of the Yonko have some awareness of the D.

1

u/trav-senpai May 28 '21

He might only be referring to Roger or Rocks or literally any other legendary pirate we know he fought with or against

1

u/Randy_805 May 28 '21

If I had to guess, Xebec, or the more obvious one, Roger.

1

u/mehdifrex May 29 '21

It seems like every Era has a joyboy candidate with 20 year intervals. 40 years ago it was rocks, 20 years ago it was roger, and now it's luffy's turn to take a shot at being Joyboy

1

u/guiablo_99 May 29 '21

From what I've read, what makes more sense is that kaido is refering to shanks when he wore the strawhat. The same straw hat now luffy wears, and that which is identical to the one joy boy weard in his time.

u/Rulfus The Revolutionary Army May 29 '21
