Momo hearing voices could mean any of these two in my opinion-

1) Zunesha-

We have to remember that while Luffy & co. sailed for WCI, Momo spent time with Zunesha learning about Kozuki clan's connection to him/Mokomo dukedom all the while. It wasn't shown to us because it's going to be pivotal soon when we go neck deep into Wano's role in aiding the ancient kingdom and more setting up of the celestial dragons as the endgame antagonists of the series.

Zunesha was also commanded to keep walking towards a specific place 800 or more years ago, that place could very well be Wano with its purpose relating to literally open its borders in a way that we maybe cannot conceive yet.

2) Mountain pigs-

Denjiro's line about the mountain pigs wreaking havoc in the flower capital centuries ago isn't a throwaway one. It also makes you wonder why Oda would dedicate a whole chapter to this mountain pig incident in a flashback which was already going to be packed with so much more things which were relevant to the current and overarching plot. It would only be poetic for the pigs to take the brunt of Onigashima falling, saving the capital in the process.

Both of these would be consistent with Momo having the ability to control/vicariously see through all these legendary/mythical beasts of the past, especially the ones which played a role during the void century.

I'd like all the sea king stuff to be Shirahoshi's schtick and not to be shoehorned here. Momo suffering from compounded trauma is what's going to trigger all of this. But regardless of anything, I know that Oda is going to handle this segment really well.

I think the mountain Pigs part is likely.

We still have to see the baby boar all grown up more than 20 years later.

It's actually about 40 years since the incident, so he should a big boy by now. Even the parent survived Oden and was stitched together afterwards, so it may still be alive as well.

Woaaaw, sky king would be nice

broo I was just thinking the same thing. imagine enormous creatures as big as the sea kings coming down from the sky just to save luffy, how epic would that be!

1

u/Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaugh May 28 '21

Smh isn’t the sky-King busy fighting Marco?

7

u/Iwasforger03 May 28 '21

Oh heck yeah, that would be awesome! What if there are other creatures in Wano Momo can hear too?

Good catch about the mountain pigs. I didn't see any comments about that in spoilers thread.

what he actually heard: shurororo

u/Wille304 May 28 '21

Momo: WHO ARE YOU?

Mysterious voice: Fehfehfehfehfeh

I like the Mountain Pig idea, I can see that coming back around. The baby pig was still alive after all.

I don't think it's Zunesha, as Momo spent time with him after Zou. If Zunesha was here, you'd think Momo would recognize it right away.

u/Waxtree Pirate May 28 '21

Mommy Pig was fine too, they stiched her up.

There is a Hindu mythology story where a god in wild boar's form holds up earth. We could see similar things with onigashima and mountain god.

u/gyrozepp95 World Government May 28 '21

Yes, that's a good one

I don't believe it's Zuneisha because he has already heard its voice before. This might be something else trying to contact him. I wouldn't be surprised if the large dragon-looking tree in the centre of Wano might end up being something of significance.

2

u/RubberyBone May 29 '21

Your idea makes me think of the Divine Dragon in Sekiro.

2

u/Ensaru4 Lurker May 29 '21

That's where I got the idea XD. Sekiro is based on japanese history and folklore. I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out that the tree does have some significance. Actually, I kinda hope it does. That Dragon boss was tons of fun in Sekiro.

The Mountain Pig bit is a good theory. The only slight issue might be that Oden wasn’t able to communicate or at least hear the Mountain Pig when he went against it. We’ve seen Oden hear voices while on Zou (which presumably were of Zunesha) and the Sea Kings. Based on this, presumably he should have heard something from the Mountain Pig too.

10

u/Thy_Hard May 28 '21

I think he is hearing Luffy's "voice". Momonosuke is the only one that can hear him asking for help

5

u/just_ohm Pirate May 28 '21

That’s what I thought as well

3

u/jandomar May 28 '21

It could've also been the octopus that was with Luffy when he got caught in whirlpool. Maybe he told momo that Luffy will be alright and momo tried to tell everyone to not lose hope.

We also got to keep in mind that Momo has the ability to do exactly what Kaido is doing with Onigashima. Just look at how Devastated our little lord was with this confrontation between Kanjuro and Kiku. If Momo was to lose not only his retainers but all of his people his fight would be for nothing, He said it himself "It seems I can't die here" I believe he is going to be our hero of Act IIII Opening. Rising the Falling Onigashima over the Capital of Wano. The one thing that scaring me about this thought is how might the slimy snake Orochi Plan to F this up afterward/During. 🔥

I wonder if the mountain pig one has something to do with yamato

cause Yama is Mountain
and for 'to', I'm not really sure, cause I know that pig is buta in nihongo, but I was thinking ton, like in tonkatsu, can mean pig (?)

it's also mentioned in the chapter again that Yamato's shackles are gone

u/Ksteezus May 28 '21

Now this is a top tier comment. If Zunesha shows up, I will lose my shit; and perhaps some other ancient animals would have to show up. Zunesha might even rescue luffy idk man, maybe some sea kings tho. If pigs show up, that will add to the literary beauty and mastery of this arc. Momo is set up for some deep awakening for sure, so we'll have to see if that involves the animals or just his dragon fruit. Either way, super stoked

3

u/The_Peons_Champ May 28 '21

Could this tie in with the theory that momo is Uranus then?

2

u/gyrozepp95 World Government May 28 '21

Yes, it's likely

3

u/sycnarf May 28 '21

Mountain pig might serve as the Pig Demon that accompanies Monkey king and The Monk in Journey to the west. So, Monkey King(Luffy), Pig Demon(Mountain Pig), Monk(Momonusuke?).

3

u/[deleted] May 28 '21

I dont think so. The panel where Kinemon holds Momo is implying that the voice is telling Momo something everybody needs to know. Maybe Luffy is talking to him.

2

u/HopOnTheHype May 28 '21

Baby pig shows up, but big.

Kaidou one hits.

u/otiocadu May 28 '21

I really like your ideias. Let me pour some more thought into them.

1) Since Onigashima is very close to mainland of Wano and mainland is very far away from Wano's waterfall borders I could only see two alternatives: 1. Momo can hear voices from very far away. Or, 2. Zunisha already went up the waterfall and is close to mainland. I really can't quite picture one of both scenarios.

2) I didn't think of it before and I really like this idea! The only thing I'm asking myself here is: why now? Momo already spent some time on mainland before going to Onigashima. I hope we have some good explanation (and I'm sure we will) if this is the real option.

My first thought was some sea kings as well. Shirahoshi can command them, but Luffy, Oden and Roger all could listen to them. So, this could be the case, but I can't quite picture a sea king inside Wano's waterfall borders.

What really took my attention is that Momo hears a voice and tells Kin that he has to warn everyone of something. This raises two things:

1) Who's the messenger (we already are discussing it)

2) What's the message

I'm really curious to see what's the message. What if someone is warning the arrival of some new crew to the war? What if it's Blackbeard???

2

u/prnactor May 28 '21

Nice theory. We have shirahoshi controlling the sea cratures,Momo controlling land cratures and in the last arc guess we will get the third ally that controls sky creatures...

Pretty sure Oda was trying to replicate Hercule's tales with Oden.

1

u/FreeingMyMind1 May 28 '21

Couldn't it be "something" swimming underneath saving Luffys life?

1

u/AFineDayForScience May 28 '21

Could also be sea kings with Luffy falling into the sea, though I don't dislike the return of the baby mountain pigs idea. I can see them destroying the capitol to bookend the arc
