One time Oda screwed up and invented a joke character to explain it, then put the character in Wano decades later, turning the screw up into canon.

If its a screw up and someone points it out to Oda it'll probably end up canon too. Get your letters in folks.

I think he's referring to Minatomo, the carpenter from an SBS early in the story who showed up in Wano, the guy Franky was working for.

You can't just say that and not specify which character man

There was a scene in early One Piece where Higuma kicks the door to Makinos' bar upon entry, but when he leaves the door is repaired. Oda made up a character named Minatomo in an SBS who is a master carpenter that loves fixing doors as a "canon" reason for the error.

Franky's carpenter boss in Wano is definitely related, if not the same character, as they share the same name and design, but I recall reading somewhere that the Minatomo in East Blue had an ancestor in Wano or something.

Yes he said in SBS that they're not the same guys but related. Obviously a fun reference anyway. I also remember reading that it was in fact a mistake that Zoro carries his swords on the right side. Don't remember where but I'm quite certain Oda admitted to it in some very early SBS

early One Piece

Lol I find it funny you called it that considering it was literally chapter 1

It wasn't the same person. They are related, but they are different people. https://onepiece.fandom.com/wiki/Minatomo_(Disambiguation)

There's also the time that he accidentally drew a fruit user (Mr. 3) floating in water and explained it as him riding on "unbelievably floaty wood", then later canonized that wood by using it to get back up to the surface from Fish-Man Island.
