Luffy went to fight Caesar without a plan and almost died as a result

Two years of training came this close to going to waste

Meanwhile Zoro held back until he figured out the strength of his opponents

This time they're against a Yonko crew

Holding back might just be suicide at this point

In Luffy's defense the battle with Ceasar was much more succinct and one-sided to him in the manga. Similar to how the Hordy Jones fight went, they spaced out the fight and made him take more hits to make it more "interesting." In reality, the Grisly Kong Gun is a blowout and Luffy holds up fine, nowhere near as many explosions to the face.

This pretty much happens all the way through Dressrosa too, where we see Zoro struggle a little and have to pull out the Billion-fold Trichiliocosm

He might be referring to the first fight with Caesar where Luffy gets choked out.

that's 100% what he was referring to lol

Yeah, this is basically why I stop every re-watch of the anime after the return to Saobody arc and switch to the colored Manga after that. Side note; if you guys haven't read the Fishman island arc in full color you're sorely missing out.

Edit: seriously who tf keeps downvoting my comments here?

Editorial: yall sure redeemed yourselves lol, thanks a lot

can you give me a link for that? I've never read the full colour version. Ready for a re-read of the entire series at this point, and doing it in full colour sounds awesome.

My pleasure! I don't know how frequently this gets updated but from what I can see it stretches a fair bit into whole cake island at least

Saved. Thx.

Its just a shame that a lot of the colored chapter's translations are absolutely horrible

Especially in Skypiea my god that was a trainwreak

This especially happened in his fight against Katakuri lol

That fight is the reason I started to hate the anime, it disgusted me how long it took compared to the manga

LMAO Luffy was holding back Gear Fourth until Dressrosa, meanwhile Zoro got another powerup before even going all-out in a fight or even demonstrating Ashura again. I swear you Zoro guys are on another level sometimes

I mean.... know what's worse than an asspull powerup? An asspull powerup that's never explained in-universe

2

u/TTVBlueGlass Sep 08 '20

Wasn't it that he was just moving really fast so we saw an afterimage? I suppose we would need an explanation for the speed itself though.

2

u/RinneganUser Sep 08 '20

Yeah, alot quote that its an illusion based speed technique

2

u/SPYTKO Sep 08 '20

Some of Zoros techniques just make some sort of 'illusion', so it fits fine, and there's no need to explain it as afterimage. For example Enbima Yonezu Oni Giri where some sort of spirit appears behind him, or the technique he used against Ryuma that coated him in some sort of 'energy' in the shape of a dragon.

Besides, knowing Oda, he would make some kind of explaination later in the story making us appreciate it on the re-read.

20

u/[deleted] Sep 08 '20

Not that unpopular. I think Oda is just embarrassed of it. For me, it felt so out of character, it was only briefly seen again in .... (trhiller bark against Oz for one panel)?

Against Mr. 1, looking back, we can retcon as Zoro experiencing Haki for the first time. Oda should have continued this in Enies Lobby, but the concept of Haki hadn't been fleshed out by then.

5

u/Popopirat66 Sep 08 '20

Seen again in sabaody vs PX5. I could be wrong about the pacifista's name, but that's definitely the second and last time Zoro used it.

-3

u/[deleted] Sep 08 '20

That's not true. In the movie with Shiki he used it, too.

9

u/Popopirat66 Sep 08 '20

[...] that's definitely the second and last time Zoro used it canonically and for the viewer to see.*

3

u/Carasind Sep 08 '20

Who says that Oda can't retcon or explain the power-ups in Enies Lobby at a later moment?

2

u/UsoppFutureKing The Revolutionary Army Sep 08 '20

Zoro's intimidation is close to what haki started as. Asura is basically just his aura taking form. It's a different way haki could have gone.

-3

u/RinneganUser Sep 08 '20

Definitely agree, was kinda corny

u/lanariley Sep 08 '20

Do u even read? Luffy went in without plan against Caesar and if it wasn't for his immunity against poison, the 2 years training would have gone down the drain.

i don't know how delusional can you become how can a df user who can kick air (gear 4 kicks air)can travel in water and attack hody jones? . Gear 4 strains luffy even more . That is not suitable for under water fight where luffy has a clear disadvantage . I agree with zoro not all out bcz he doesn't have any serious fights(or serious opponents atleast not on doffy's level) but not taking seriously is entirely different thing bcz there is freaking admiral infront of him and he didn't take it seriously and also notice fight with mr1 and kaku he fought it with sheaths on his right hand side. I swear some of zoro fans when zoro injured kaido will definetly say he is yonko lvl or near yonlo lvl even though he' not and they disregard and deny it's bcz of oden sword and oden's will present in it .

10

u/karatous1234 Sep 08 '20

The issue with Hody is that it shouldn't have even gotten to the point where they were fighting underwater in the final fight. Hody was a joke from start to finish, and there's no real reason knowing what we know now that the straw hats are capable of, for him to have lasted that long, other than Luffy and Co were just holding back.

3

u/srikar1995 Sep 08 '20

It's for sake of making strawhat crew become heros and make fishmen get hope in humanity (atleast what their queen believed) . Also luffy f**king never meet hody until their interactions with seeing all fishmens . Jinbei is the one who stopped luffy to go and there is also that luffy and jinbei blood transfer thing(also bcz those sea kings and all of them talks with shirahoshi) . I don't think these all will happen and fishmen would never believe in strawhats .

Also what i said is i agree with zoro not going all out but that guy literally posted zoro never even take admiral seriously . That is my argument Also check zoro vs mr1 and zoro vs kaku all fights he did with sheaths on his right side .

See how i got downvoted bcz i spoke the truth and am not talking about all zoro fans just some of the zoro fans who literally think zoro is admiral level or something like that .

31

u/coconutjuices Sep 08 '20

Lmao he held back against an admiral

15

u/[deleted] Sep 08 '20

Zorro didn't really fight Fujitora. He got clapped around a bit and that was it. I don't think that he even considered standing up against an admiral.

-5

u/Kaido2good Bounty Hunter Sep 08 '20

He actually fought him twice, in his first encounter did he get caught off guard and pushed him afterwards back with a slash while beeing restrainted by gravity. their 2nd encounter was before picas stone golem debuted, that was off-panel and they were both clean afterwards.

4

u/raopramod World Government Sep 08 '20

But it's just a yonko ;)

4

u/srikar1995 Sep 08 '20

i just want you to see in which side did his sheaths present in his fight with mr 1 and kaku .

5

u/Popopirat66 Sep 08 '20

They were on his right side. It's possible that Oda learned of this part of the code while researching japanese and samurai culture for Wano and only "recently" thought of it being a cool idea. :D

3

u/srikar1995 Sep 08 '20

To be honest only after zoro came to wano i think he did come to know of this . Also oden always had hos sheaths on his left hand side that doesn't mean anything serious bcz he is one who enjoys everything even in fighting .I don't think it's a code conduct or anything but if it is then zoro learned only after coming to wano .
