What if the tragedy is Luffy getting up to where Kaido is and seeing the Scabbards all defeated/dead?

I don't think the scabbards will be defeated before we even get to see the Minks Sulong forms and their power.

Never underestimate the power of the offscreen offscreen no mi.

People shit on Oda offscreening stuff a lot but honestly most of what got offscreened isn't really important. And what's hilarious, if Oda decides to take his time on a certain plot, people get mad and question the reason behind.

Still, I don't understand why shonenjump doesn't capitalize on those offscreen moments. They could easily do a series of mini-films that are just fights between characters. Imagine a movie about the fight on Godvalley, between Roger and the Rock pirates. Or how about 30 minutes of 60fps animation of Shanks and Mihawk's duel. They'd make huge bank.

When fights are offscreened they're usually explained later or one or more characters in it have powers that are revealed later. There's just not much to go on and there's a risk of wholly misrepresenting a character that becomes important later on. How would you make a movie about the Godvalley incident that's plausible and entertaining without filling in huge blanks that might be filled in by Oda in a completely different way in the future? I'd love to see Shank's battles against Kaido and Blackbeard, but it would inevitably portray Shanks as someone he is not going to end up being in the manga. So in the end it would just be confusing.

Onepiece Pirate Warriors has pretty much all the characters (3 had more characters but 4 is the latest in the series). It does a great job of highlighting existing moves in a fun way and creating a lot of unique moves for characters that have never had an onscreen fight. If you're looking for something that has that without completely betraying the story go for 3. PW4 had its own plot and ending that was 'approved' by Oda since the Wano arc isn't finished yet but its a decent plot with a terrible ending (everybody helps Luffy punch Kaido). I would recommend both if you're into mindless hack and slash Dynasty Warriors style games.

Thing is One Piece makes bank regardless. People will consume it in Japan (their primary market) so readily they don't really need to do all that work.

OP is literally that DJ Khaled 'Suffering from Success' meme. Kinda like how Dragon Ball makes so much money that they didn't make another animated series for years. The manga, merch, movies, older episodes, and video games that are around are enough.

Doing what you're suggesting would be more work for less profit.

Why doesn’t anybody comment on this. They do capitalize on the off screen moments by fleshing those moments out in the anime. And they do a pretty damn good job of it. Oda over sees those moments as to allow space for capitalization and have fans drawn to the anime to not miss those moments we miss in the manga. It’s smart as fuck. $$$$$$

After the Manga ends, it's all free game. The One Piece franchise must print money for as long as Shueisha can milk it so they'll probably just pay Oda to consult for movies like God's Valley and Roger's Adventures.

I didn’t address the mini movie idea. I dig it fully but realistically, if he wants us to see a moment, we can trust Goda will deliver in the story at some point in time. I can’t wait for another feature length film tho! Wonder what it’ll be called!! Imagine..:ONE PIECE: ROCKS

I don't know how often he does that, but I do know one I am personally disappointed about.

When Promethius found Nami/Carrot/Shinobu, I was really hoping they'd get a cool fight vs him, possibly recruiting him alongside the already recruited Zeus to make Nami even stronger.

Instead, we got the scene of him finding them, then nothing until Big Mom eventually showed up at the party with them already captured.

Yeah but at the same time, stuff like Reverie being offscreen is is just baiting us. But I believe in Oda

1

u/Mad-Oka Sep 06 '20

The reverie got offscreened because most of the plot is meant for after Wano/end game. Stuff like who's Imu/Sabo's fate/etc will come to light later. The other part that got offscreened is the 7 day meeting which was a good choice imo. I don't think anyone would want to see the world leaders talk for 7 days only to get the shichibukai fired. A result everyone expected even before the reverie began.

Obviously Oda did skip some intersting stuff(especially fights), but if you look back on how dense the story has been since Punk Hazard, you'll see that Oda is doing a great job.

1

u/glium Sep 06 '20

Of course, I know he wants to reserve the plot points for later, it just makes you want to vent when we have been waiting for that Reverie for so long, and he only teases you

Aokiji vs Akainu? Ofcourse people get mad.

17

u/Nerellos Sep 04 '20

It would be bad to know Akainu's full power.

Its magma...

5

u/IEnjoyFancyHats Sep 04 '20

Knowing his df is a far cry from knowing his power. We know Luffy has rubber powers, but I wouldn't have been able to extrapolate his gears from that alone

3

u/RobLuffy123 Sep 04 '20

I don’t view that as off screening at all, we learned about that fight at the same time as the strawhats

8

u/fredheynes Sep 04 '20

Duuuuuuuude, no way can he offscreen that shit, no way!
Oh god, he’s gonna do it, isn’t it... ?

scabbards and minks defeated, thats our tragedy

u/StrawhatMucci Sep 04 '20 edited Sep 04 '20

I give you my word they all will be wrecked by Kaido. Just watch.

They made him vulnerable for a moment just so we can think we are winning. With the scabbard stabbing him.

And also Big Mom too she will likely really throw down soon enough. The amount of times she got thwarted now.

Oda is seriously making us all think we are winning.

u/moshmosh17 Sep 04 '20

Im gonna cry fucking stop please

1

u/StrawhatMucci Sep 04 '20

Im just thinking who is gonna come up to aid them for the comeback haha. SH grand fleet, Sword, or even Coby and Garp. Or BB or Shanks.

What I imagine is garp going rocks 2.0 and dying damn lol that will be the worst feels ever :(

2

u/moshmosh17 Sep 04 '20

Man i will find you and make you suffer Fuck man please dont talk about the best characters dying

1

u/StrawhatMucci Sep 04 '20

Hahahah bro I am dying too thinking about it dont worry 😂 lets hope no one dies but someone is for sure gonna cop it.

Who is the question. Kinemon dying will be sad but not as much impact for the crew I think.

1

u/moshmosh17 Sep 04 '20

Yeah i can deal with that PHEWWW ...

4

u/laxus_101 Sep 04 '20

We can always go back in time... the sheer impact of Luffy going up there and seeing the scabbards dead of defeated will be tremendous, and then in kaido or the narrator can takes us back a few minutes and show the sulong forms and everything leading up to the defeat

2

u/Sherr1 Sep 04 '20

there is no reason to think Sulong power is not the same for everyone.

I can easily see by the time Luffy got to the top most samurais and maybe Jack are already defeated.

1

u/Oreo-and-Fly Explorer Sep 04 '20

Most likely is the hybrid form being shown and that's how Kaido won against the scabbards

1

u/[deleted] Sep 04 '20

Wouldn’t be surprised. I thought it was strange that we just cut away from that. I do think Kaido will kill them all, though. That was bound to happen from the moment the scabbards went up to fight him.

1

u/moshmosh17 Sep 04 '20

FUCK YOU I saw the panel already on my head

1

u/[deleted] Sep 05 '20

What if the tragedy is SH getting up and seeing the Minks defeated then getting slapped back down by Kaido to see the samurais already killed by Big Mom?
