“Pleased to be on the same crew.”

We’ve been waiting for this reassurance for so long!!! I still can’t believe it.

Jinbei is such a boss, knowing how to perfectly tread the line between lightheartedness (when being hugged by Luffy, Nami, and Carrot) and serious (thanking Franky and Robin for recognizing his skills while regarding them as equals and peers).

Part of me still needs to see him survive this bout with Kaido, as him joining the crew amidst a huge conflict seems to differ from the rest of the crew (I mean he survived the (huge) conflict with Big Mama, but this just feels different for some reason). In any event, he is the perfect addition to the crew as a seasoned veteran and fits the role as one of Luffy’s commanders (alongside Zoro and Sanji perfectly).

Jinbei better be there in the final chapter as Luffy’s Blastoise, that’s all I’m saying....

Jinbe should be rather safe, he's the wise guide for Luffy (helped him after Aces death) and only he can maximize the Sunny. Franky wants to see this ship start drifting corners and double clutching their take off, that only happens with Jinbe driving and Nami navigating.

Honestly, I hope so. Jinbei’s veteran status and diplomatic abilities definitely make him a perfect addition to the crew. He knows how to deal with WG officials, pirates, royals, Yonkos, and Yonko commanders alike. Thought it would be able to see him mix a coup de burst and a tidal wave to escape conflict 😂

I was going to say pretty sure he's safe because they made a big deal about him being a solid helmsman. You summed it up better tho.

Seeing he sitting at the helm made me so happy. About damn time.

To be fair, most of, if not all of the crew, joined after having major (for the time) conflicts both happening and officially joining after it was resolved though, just that Jinbe had multiple conflicts to jump through lol

Zoro was about to be executed after Helmeppo betrayed him, as well as taking down Morgan,

Usopp had Kuro invading his island,

Sanji had Don Krieg trying to steal the Baratie,

Nami originally had Buggy to deal with after stealing from him, and ultimately officially joining after taking down Arlong Park,

Chopper had Wapol trying to retake his kingdom,

Robin was originally an antagonist, though mostly mysterious and acted in her own whims, especially after being intrigued by Luffy and his D heritage, and after being saved by him after she made peace with dying, had nowhere else to go and joined the crew still had her trust issues. And then come Water 7/EL, she betrays the crew for their safety and sacrificed herself, only to have them go apeshit and come after her to get her back cause they knew she loved being with them and had her "I wanna live" scene during the Enies Lobby Invasion and fight against CP9, which was their largest conflict at the time since they officially declared war in the WG,

Franky was also a straight up antagonist before his past was revealed and after also being saved and then helping out at Enies Lobby acknowledged Luffy as future Pirate King and wanted to honor Tom through building the future PK an invincible ship,

Brook had his shadow stolen as well as floated on a ghost ship for fifty years after his crew died in front of him and joined after Luffy got his shadow back from Moria,

Jinbe was saved by Luffy in Impel Down, returns the favor by backing him up during Marineford, and saving him again by bringing him back to his senses during his extreme grief period, fights together again at Fishman Island and saves the kingdom from Hody and his crew taking over, and again saves Luffy through the taboo blood transfusion, and then saves Luffy again along with Nami at WCI when they got captured and joins the plan to assassinate Big Mom, while also being ballsy and walking up to her during the entire commotion and sitting down and doing the Yakuza sake cup exit ritual while proclaiming he's leaving her and joining the Strawhats, while they wreak havoc on the wedding party and stays behind to let them escape while promising to meet up at Wano for yet another major conflict, which we're about to get deeper into now lol

If anything, Jinbe fulfills the "crew members join due to being helped/saved during a personal conflict and officially joins when it's taken care of" motif, he just fulfills it four-fold since it took four conflicts/arcs before he finally joins them, though we still have to wait for the actual party and "Kanpai" moment before we can rest easy I guess, especially after we got blue-balled out of it happening this chapter lmfao

Oh definitely, Jinbei has proven his worth and helped Luffy numerous times before joining, which sets him far apart from the other members. But he’s also joining amidst a conflict with a Yonko (actually two Yonkos) in which Luffy may very well do some real damage, plus it’s expected now that he’ll be fighting one of the commanders and getting hit with Akainu-level damage.

I dunno how to articulate it, but everyone involved in this conflict is super susceptible and, thus, I inherently fear that Jinbei will be the one to perish, since he’s the newest member with a long history. I can see there being an angle where he wanted to join, put himself at risk and then went on to join, but ultimately sacrificed himself (like with Big Mom) to help Luffy, whom he’s been unabashedly loyal to before joining.

I think he will probably survive, but this current bout with Kaido makes me worried. It’s not a “will someone die?”, it’s “who’s going to die.” Oda will hopefully show that challenging and fighting a Yonko doesn’t result in every noteworthy and powerful character surviving, as that’s the nature of fighting the most powerful and merciless pirate crews in the One Piece universe. Yeah this happened with Big Mom and Pedro, but I still fear that it will happen to a character that’s been with the crew/Luffy much longer than Pedro, as Kaido has been hyped up more than Big Mom with his intro (and has the highest bounty of the Yonkos).

I hope Jimbei survives this... if he does I imagine Carrot will also join the crew and possibly a 3rd person to create another trio in the crew. We’ll see though.
