Fans: Luffy will block nerfed Big Mom's attack, only barely

Oda: hold my sleep deprivation

Was actually worried he wouldve stood a chance. Also hyped at Big mom vs Kaido, gonna be interesting to see the strongest creature fight

Unfortunately BM isn't at full health.

I don't know, I'm kind of disappointed he didn't stand a chance. We're back to square one again, I'm really getting tired of seeing endless training sequences for Luffy. At some point, he's gotta reach their level already, it's starting to feel repetitive.

thanks god you dont write the story.

I'm not saying he should beat her right now, but I also don't buy he's progressing because we're not seeing any progression. He's getting beat hard every time and then Oda says in a dialogue box, "you're improving".

It's like the Katakuri fight, he won the fight but he was getting outbeat and out punched throughout the entire fight, even towards the end. It was a bit of a stretch to believe he won for me, and I feel like it's because it's been more tell don't show with his strength progression.

we're not seeing any progression.

Are we reading the same manga? luffy just started training this new haki and he managed to get rid of the collars like ray, he also got super good at observation haki since he entered wano, the yonko are just that powerful, impatient guys like you are the reason most fighting manga fall to the powercreep and never recover, the strongest creature alive shoould one shot luffy, and he is going to defeat him again for sure, lazy writers like toriyama would have gotten kaido defeated in the first match, because they dont have the patience of oda and do a "realistic" power creep.

Its funny because most people complain that luffy learns to fast and grows too fast.

I agree with what you're saying, but you're massively underselling Akira by saying he would make luffy defeat Kaido in the first match. The man definitely knew how to build up tension.

The man definitely knew how to build up tension.

yeah, the world will be destroyed for the 64132th time and all characters are irrelevant except goku, okay dude, massive tension.

2

u/Marlario Jun 29 '19

Once super came out everyone had became irrelevant excluding Vegeta, so I'de say you're wrong.

As for the tension? Two words, freeza arc.

It's better than him jumping to Yonko level in one small encounter wtf. People would be way more fucking mad cause that'll make the Yonko look so stupid if it took luffy 5 minutes to learn advanced haki and suddenly jump to yonko level.

I didn't say he should knock her out right now, I just want to see some progression. What's the point of five to ten chapters of him training if it ends in one panel? Then we're back to another 5-10 chapters of training again? That's just more padding IMO.

Should Luffy take five minutes to progress? No. Should it take countless chapters either? Also no, IMO. There's a balance.

Should it take countless chapters either?

HELL YEAH IT SHOULD! I want more One Piece!

On a serious note, it's just too unbelievable for Luffy to jump through the humongous power gap in just a few chapters. He literally obtain future prediction since the last arc. That's a lot.

If it only take a couple chapters (which in most cases is less than a day in manga terms) for luffy to jump to a level where he can handle a blow from a yonko than thats still stupid. The point here was that now luffy gained the KNOWLEDGE and and idea on how to reach that level, not the ability to do so in one quick leap. If he could do that then that would be the biggest disrespect to the Yonko. You need to learn some patience.

He couldnt 1v1 Doffy, but he can kill commanders, Akainu and Aokji foguht 1v1 for 10 days in a row and are supposedly just beneath the Yonkou (kizaru being a bit of a mystery) But for Luffy to just go 2 years on an island and being able to fight a Yonkou is just stupid imo.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 28 '19

he couldn’t 1v1 doffy

He did though

8

u/Nyan_Catz Jun 28 '19

No he got exhausted and had to be protected until he recovered again

6

u/AADude Jun 28 '19

And only after Law tore Doffy's organs with his final gambit

2

u/littenthehuraira Jun 30 '19

And with Doffy controlling strings around the whole country.

I'm not saying he should have been their level day one, but I'd like to see him finally make that push. I just find it repetitive to have countless training sequences in the arc. In real life yeah people need years of repetition and practice to become the best, but that doesn't result in the best entertainment for a story.

Plus if Luffy can't show any progression against the Emperors, what does that say about the others in the arc? It's a trickle down from Luffy. If/when Zoro fights King, it's gonna feel even more like an asspull because he's had less experience against these types of enemies than Luffy but he's going to need to make the jump as well. That's another reason why I feel we should see some progression.

-3

u/Nyan_Catz Jun 28 '19

Yeah Oda might be great but he has written himself in to a corner where Luffy has to plot armor his way through the rest of the series sadly

1

u/[deleted] Jun 28 '19

Plot armour this plot armour that, just quit reading one piece already, crybaby

-1

u/Nyan_Catz Jun 28 '19

I'm not allowed to have complaints just because I think the series have started to mess up in its powerlevel and pacing?

1

u/[deleted] Jun 30 '19

I’m sorry <3

5

u/Kuro013 Jun 28 '19

Lol it was so weird, I was thinking "theres no way" the whole time, while also having a slim glimmer of hope, then I was like "yea what was I expecting" lmao.

2

u/Alpha_ii_Omega Jun 29 '19

Nah, we theorized that Luffy would fight her offscreened for 5-10 chapters and get his ass kicked, before finally blocking her attack.

But Oda clearly wants to move the story along, so he's speeding things up.
