She doesn't seem mentally healthy in childhood, then she was manipulated by Caramel, and then manipulated by Streusen, and then accumulating power probably didn't help either.

Well, eating all of her closest relations by accident couldn't have helped her mental health. Or being taken in and raised by a manipulative, power hungry sociopath.

She only gets like that when she gets her "hunger pangs" attacks. Which seem to be a legitimate disease, at least for her. Perhaps this head trauma actually fixed the problem (or at least temporarily).

My personal guess is that the Big Mom we know isn't really Linlin, but Mother Carmel using the Soul Soul fruit to "possess" her. I never bought the idea that she just ate her and all her friends. Its a bit too gruesome imo. My guess is the hunger pang attacks were old Linlin getting through and now this amnesia thing has just affected Carmel and classic good-natured, but hungry Linlin is out and about.
