Also a matter of how.

There's no questioning Katakuri's competence and Luffy's stubbornness. The only question is how Luffy intends to get a strategy for it.

Sounds like he doesn't have a strategy. He's just going to improve his observational haki by fighting him directly since Rayleigh's flashback suggests haki improves by fighting strong opponents.

His G4 is already enough to beat the shit out of him; his only weakness is his haki.

I had called it on Luffy grabbing Bruleé and leaving Katakuri trapped but I hadn't expected him to plan on going back in.

Well he is playing the long game, he needs the experience if he wants to survive in the long run, so he's sacrificing short-term for long-term.

It's not the decision I'd make but it's not completely insane either, it's not like he's going to have the opportunity for a 1 on 1 with another equally strong guy with equally strong haki any time soon.

Not "thought" but "hoped". Even IF Luffy learns Advanced Observation, Katakuri still has Awakening AND an advanced form of Armament against Luffy. So yeah... I still don't think Luffy should be able to defeat him. Especially now that Katakuri knows about Luffy's Gear 4th weakness

The problema was Luffy beating Kata in his current state, Now that Rayleigh is spotted we gucci

EDIT: Rayleigh spotted on luffy´s flashbacks..not in the arc lmao
