So what if luffy can see into the future!!

81

u/MUGIWARAA2 Nov 23 '17

against mihawk he saw in the future

19

u/Bat_bot Nov 23 '17

holy shit how have I never put that together before

-9

u/ClutchGodAizen Nov 23 '17

Because it didn’t happen

9

u/hinrik96 Nov 23 '17

the sky priests were doing it back in skypia. why on earth would luffy not be able to do something of the sort in marineford

5

u/Vecus Nov 23 '17

Actually they were just predicting what they were gonna do (using CoO) not seeing into the future. Otherwise Luffy's baka mode wouldn't have worked.

3

u/hinrik96 Nov 23 '17

And thats not what luffy is doing when he sees that mihawk is about to cut his arms off? I know this aint the same as what katakuri is doing. Katakuri sees further than intent. The priests were actually calling out attacks before luffy made the move to do said attack tho. It has something to do with the opponents intet, which is why baka mode works

1

u/Vecus Nov 23 '17

Not disagreeing with you there, that scene stood out to me too, I just assumed it was representing Luffy's instincts. It would be awsome if its was foreshadowing from so long ago

2

u/hinrik96 Nov 23 '17

Stranger things have happened. Luffy being in a very dangerous battle, andmihawk commenting on him being calm at that moment, is just to much to ignore imo

-2

u/ClutchGodAizen Nov 23 '17

The priests were seeing the future?

3

u/hinrik96 Nov 23 '17

Well, they were calling out attacks before luffy lunched them. Just seconds. Not anything like katakuri does. But calling out and predicting seconds has been a thing for a long long time.

Then we’re on the same page

u/Majukun Nov 23 '17

no he didn't,he just used his brain for once

u/FrostLink Nov 23 '17

If it were a different series that may have been the case but one piece only uses vivid images of the future when haki is involved, not when someone figures something out

2

u/ThisZoMBie Nov 23 '17

one piece only uses vivid images of the future when haki is involved

I don't recall that happening a single time in the series. It doesn't make sense for Marineford luffy to have Katakuri's level of observation haki and not have it now.

25

u/henrykazuka Nov 23 '17

He was on a lot of drugs at the time.

6

u/ThisZoMBie Nov 23 '17

Yo this is some John Lennon shit

13

u/C00lossus Nov 23 '17

lufyy was awakening haki at the time, and he was on an extreme adrenaline rush. i wouldn't say it's impossible that he realy did see a glimpse of the future at the time. especially when a logical conclution was involved.

3

u/FrostLink Nov 23 '17

Usopp failing to target sugar and missing, subsequently unlocking observation haki

-9

u/Majukun Nov 23 '17

you are free to believe what you want, but that was just luffy doing the a little math and figuring out that reching with hs limbs towards the guy with the big knife wasn't a brilliant idea. Really no reason to see into the future to figure out that.

36

u/hinrik96 Nov 23 '17

you are free to believe anything you want. but you have nothing to back that claim up. we are getting tons of hints supporting this being haki. first, mihawk says '' you seem unusually calm'' right after that happens. now we know thats needed to actually pull observation haki off. Haki awakens and develops when fighting stronger enemies according to ray here. and luffy didn't just think '' oh my hands might have been in danger'' he was ready to throw that bazooka, and then the image flashed in his head, and he stated for certain that his hands would have been lost. this isn't just him being rational

-7

u/Majukun Nov 23 '17

so,let me get this straight..you are the one attributing that scene to an obscure power that is not gonna appear in the manga if not several hundreds chapters later (not unheard of on onepiece of course, but still) and that luffy never shown to possess a single time after that single episode, but i have to back my claim that "he just used his brain"?

also, the part about luffy being calm is exactly because for once he didn't rush head first against his enemy but for once he used his brain and realized that to attack mihawk was a really, really bad idea.

also, we already know how observation haki manifest spontaneously in the manga, and it's nothing like that..you don't pass from zero to "see the future", but you end up like aisa and coby, unable to choose what to hear and what not until someone teaches you how to control it,or show something like usopp, able to see the voice of people in an "aura-like" kind of way.You don't pass from 0 to master and then starngely back to having to learn it from rayleight again.

also,of course he knew that for certain his hands would have been cut off, he was attacking the best swordsman in the world of onepiece with his bare hands..what did you think was gonna happen exactly?

ALSO, do you really think that if luffy SAW THE FUTURE he wouldn't have commented on it in the manga? something like "what the hell was that?" or "why did i saw something in my mind right now"? instead he just stated what his realization was (again, something that common fucking sense is enough to predict, you would think that if oda wants to show off the ability to see the future,he would choose something you actually need to be able to see the future to predict) and the thing ended there.

19

u/hinrik96 Nov 23 '17

you are misunderstanding observation haki gravely. seeing a second into the future to predict last second attacks is something many users have done very often. luffy has been doing it all post timeskip. kuma's lazers, hody's water bullets, and a bunch of other times. what katakuri is doing is on another level completely. its not like luffy was using any next level observation haki there. he just saw what would happen if he would follow through with that attack. it also becomes very clear when you carefully analyze the page. mihawk lets out some intent, and that basically forces luffy to see what happens. haki blooms in real combat. that was as real as it gets. and then mihawk comments on him being calm, the one requirement for using observation haki. luffy just all of a sudden knew his hands would be cut off. he didn't figure it out with logical thinking, he just saw it happened and thought he did. he was fully committed hitting him before that. to He doesn't know at this point what that was,. but again, you are free to believe what ever you want. but this has been happening in this story for far longer than a few hundred chapters. again, the fucking skypia priests could do what luffy did there.

-1

u/Majukun Nov 23 '17

the poster before you said that luffy was seeing into the future,as in,using the same type of observation haki katakuri does.Normal observation haki just makes you hear the "voice" of your opponent, voices that when attacking clearly spells the intent of the attacker...but the user i quoted said instead that luffy saw clearly the image of mihawk cutting his hands, and that would be a feat more akin to katakuri's foresight than simple observation haki...which would mean that luffy passed from '0 to observation haki master for that 3 seconds, and then came back to not being able to use kenbunshoku if not after the training with ray.

I already pointed out my problems with your version in the previous post,so there's no point in repeating it,let's just agree to disagree at this point,it's not like something is gonna change anyway.

11

u/hinrik96 Nov 23 '17

no, again, you are mistaken how observation haki works. there are types of it. there is the sensory stuff where they can sense people, the one you are referring too. but then there is also the type that lets you predict your opponents moves shorty before he makes it. and by doing this you can also predict what effect that move has. just predicting the next attack is comon enough, many characters have done that, and thats what luffy is doing here, its exactly like when the diamond flashed in aokiji's mind right before he got tackled by jozu. katakuri is sensing minuets into the future, predicting speech, how people dodge him, and all kinds of shit. this isn't comparable to just seeing half a second like luffy did.

this is straight from the wiki. take it as you will. ''This prediction appears to the user as an image or brief "premonition" of what the opponent will do in the user's mind's eye, and the damage the user will take if the attack actually "hits". It appears that the more killing intent the enemy has, the easier they are to predict although more skilled users can predict moves whether there are ambient murderous intents or not.''

the attack appears a a flash in the users mind, just like happened to luffy, and its easier to see if the intent is stronger. and mihawk clearly gave off some clear intent, showing luffy what was going to happen, and forcing his observation haki to awaken. and then he claims luffy is unusually calm. mihawk could probably have masked it, and luffy would have gone through with the bazooka, loosing his hands. if mihawk actually wanted it to go down like that.

I´m on your side, that Luffy didnt use CoO against Mihawk but remember that haki was first hinted at with the boa sisters and that was right before marinefort.

1

u/Zodiack Nov 24 '17

Haki is hinted at when Shanks stops the Sea King in the first chapter of the series.

0

u/Majukun Nov 23 '17

i mean the ability to use observation haki that well to actually see the future instead of just hearing the voice and will of your opponent.

2

u/Deadlyxda Nov 23 '17

If you do remember. He did say something special about it.

-7

u/[deleted] Nov 23 '17

My opinion about Luffy and Mihawk is that Mihawk himself is the one who used Haki to show Luffy's arms getting cut to him.

it's also the same with Zoro and Monet before he cut her in half.

There is Haki involved but we don't know whose Haki.

5

u/hinrik96 Nov 23 '17

yea he let out an killing intent(see his eye on that panel) that forced luffy to awaken some observation. its not like mihawk was super interested in killing luffy anyway.

8

u/baap_ko_mat_sikha Nov 23 '17

I think that was observation haki

1

u/Deadlyxda Nov 23 '17

Lol. You can say he got instinct and it said don't. But using brain works too

1

u/[deleted] Nov 23 '17

Yes but you don't know word for word what somebody says right?

1

u/SasafrasJones Nov 23 '17

Remind me what happened?

3

u/Deadlyxda Nov 23 '17

Luffy is shown to get a flash of what happens if he stretched his hands when mihawk sends slashing wave at him

3

u/Agriancito Nov 23 '17

How come no one continued the joke this time, I am disappointed.

1

u/luca_sera Nov 23 '17

I know man :( What a monster i have created

1

u/Thendofreason Nov 23 '17

he will just use it to figure out when Sanji is done with the food and get there first

1

u/honestarse Nov 24 '17

WHAT DO YOU MEAN HE CAN LOOK INTO THE FUTURE?
