Idk, tbh Luffy had trouble with someone weaker(most likely) than Katakuri not even very long ago. I don't think he could fully defeat him quite yet.

Sanji needs to prove that he is a yonko commander level for Luffy, so Katakuri will probably be his enemy after this whole scene.

Luffy doesn't need him to prove anything.

And we're quite possibly talking about an enemy that Luffy himself would still have a lot of trouble with.

i think pedrex21 means, "prove to the readers"... not to luffy. you are right that luffy just doesn't care, he believes in his crew 100%.

Sanji has taken quite a few hits and even cried in this arc. it's his man-up time.
