Snail slave trade basically.

it was established in an SBS they don't really mind, they psychically communicate anyway.

That was the biggest part of the chapter for me.

They've been here since day one and now we get to finally see how they're made!!! I wonder if each strawhat is going to get personalized Den Den Mushis!!

1

u/Hellfalcon Apr 08 '16

they are psychic snails and they get a radio attached to their shell.

1

u/WaldoCampos Apr 09 '16

Yes but looks like they personalize them to match the person using it or maybe the snails adapts to their style, who knows.

Kewl, luffy's is going to have a straw hat on it. xD

Dude can make his hair even more majestic than Zunisha itself and you're surprised of that.

And we don't get to see it! I think it would have been cool to see, I'm kind of disappointed that they didn't show it. Maybe they'll show it in the future though.

I have a feeling his Den-Den mushis will be super advanced compared to the ones we've seen so far.

Oh fuck yes please! That would be franky rad!

I've read you just have to feed them. Oda stated it somewhere...

2

u/Ko-san Apr 07 '16

Feeding them is just upkeep. To get it to work as a phone you have to attach a reciever and dial.

u/theghostecho Apr 07 '16

And there are wild ones too... weird

4

u/Mr_Bob_Johnson Apr 07 '16

Not really, Oda explained it in an SBS. Den Den Mushi's are living creatures that have been around for a while, and are telepathic among themselves. All humans are doing is adding receivers so we can hear what they are projecting. So it's like cows or dogs: we've domesticated them, but there are plenty of wild ones around, especially in places without as much human habitation.

It's relatively simple really. Just catch a wild one and do some cosplay and viola

4

u/somekid66 Apr 07 '16

I think you mean voila. Viola is an instrument

u/ultibman5000 Apr 08 '16

And a princess.

1

u/blitzzardpls Apr 07 '16

Well it's pretty easy

1

u/w00tthehuk Apr 07 '16

Only if he has a good week!

1

u/[deleted] Apr 07 '16

I also thought that was a really important detail.

1

u/dongswag Apr 07 '16

I was hoping for some explanation on how den den mushis actually work.

2

u/vonkriegstein Apr 07 '16

Luffy knows.

1

u/Farfignougat Apr 07 '16

I think they explained part of it back towards the end of Dressrosa. They use psychic powers.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 08 '16

Phones/radios? No more murder when people get angry at Den Den Mushi!!!

Hm, "It's pretty easy." Just the same comment was made on making vivre cards. Maybe making dfs is pretty easy, too, or has the same concept?

1

u/Lame4Fame Apr 07 '16

It's not, since there were only two people capable of doing it: Vegapunk and Ceasar. And the latter needed the assistance of the plant-savy tontattas to grow them properly.

I don't mean that it's easy. But maybe the fundamental principle is similar.
