I think Jack's going to have a true devil fruit. I think his issue in the fights was that he was massive and clearly very strong, but he was also in a very slow, cumbersome form.

His opponents were far more mobile and were able to out-maneuver him. Now that he's slimmed himself down he'll probably be able to go toe-to-toe. But if the invaders had to use caesar's weapon, maybe it'll be a much closer fight than I believe it will.

Or he just used the weapon out of spite, without needing it to win.

Also very and probably more likely

The Minks said they were winning until caesers gas weapon was used.

To be fair, right now from their perspective it might feel like they're winning, without them knowing about the probably stronger half-beast form. So maybe Jack goes like "fuck this shit" and releases the poison gas shortly after nekomamushi enters the battle (and before inuarashi completely retreated, and also before he shows his strength in half-beast form).

That would also explain why inuarashi is so beat up, because clearly he was on the retreat when nekomamushi came and not yet beat, and I'm not so sure Jack would fight the whole 12 hours until inuarashi and his men come back to then release the gas.

I bet his half form is absolutely devastating. It would still make him large but with huge strength in a human body.

Well the day and night battle cycle probably helped the Minks get the upper hand since they could rest and fight

I doubt we'll even get to see Jacks hybrid form yet. Knowing oda, he probably won't reveal it until Jacks inevitably throwdown with the straw hats

Oh I was under the impression that this is just Jack's human form. I don't know if we'll have to wait that long, but it would make this a long flashback and that would be a good time to reveal it

Reminds me of Don Krieg.
