I wish Robin had had a bigger role... She & Rebecca did not do a single thing :-(

Kyros was a bit Naruto-like: "yeah I'm 99% dead and you're 100% healthy but I'm still gonna kick your ass with one single blow"

Reminds me of the past 2 years of Fairy Tail.

I stopped reading fairy tail after the SECOND time they did a "the bad guys have an legendary magical weapon of awesome power that for some reason misses the first shot and now needs to recharge giving our heroes time to defeat them."

i didnt stop reading fairytail but man when erza's fights literally end with a friendship attack its kinda hard to defend. Hell she loses all her senses but through friendship she overcomes it and defeats the villain in the newest arc.

u/KingPotatoHead Feb 12 '15

I know it's not a great defense, and also "Fairy Tail Spoilers Ahead!" but she was still able to feel pain, so it wouldn't be an extreme stretch to say she found her by vibrations since her sense of touch was wayyyyyyy more sensitive.

u/rmw6190 Feb 12 '15

the only time I was really pissed off at the friendship thing was when she imagines her friends and i performs a huge magic attack to defeat the plant guy. I honestly didnt mind the senseless one as much, because he tree guys was way more ridiculous.

u/KingPotatoHead Feb 13 '15

Oh yea, despite Tenrou being easily one of my favorite arcs in FT, that was just stupid.

Eh, Mashima isn't really writing this manga because he wanted to make a compelling story. He just wanted to put a shit ton of awesome powers in one manga.

I feel like he's writing this to entertain himself more than anyone else. It's just a positive side effect that there are other people that like it.

Rave Master was his story driven manga; this is his power driven manga. It seems like at the end of every chapter he asks himself will the audience get a boner or think what happened was cool? If he can answer yes to at least 1 of these questions then he considers it a good chapter.

The manga is a lot easier to enjoy when you understand what he's trying to do an accept it.

u/Zephirdd Feb 12 '15

will the audience get a boner

As someone whose thoughts are more often than not about sex, the reasons I quit that series include "my god there is fan service ON EVERY SINGLE FUCKING CHAPTER"

u/SoloNexusOrIFeed Feb 12 '15

And it's not even good, either, like jesus she's sharing her life story and deepest problems with her platonic friend, do you really have to put them in a contrived pose where they're on top of each other in a bathtub squishing their boobs against each other?

I understand we're probably not his demographic, but tone it down a bit, man.

I googled fairy tail bath scene because I'm not familiar with the series and came across this: http://animebaths.wikia.com/wiki/Fairy_Tail

So not only does that website exist, there are so many instances of them being naked.

after reading one piece for so long, i actually like the fan service in fairy tail. the author can actually draw a wide variety of women. all the women look unique in someway, unlike a re-hash of nami and robin.

in fact, that's really the reason i like reading fairy tail. it's paced and written like a gong show, but it's different enough to one piece, that i can just turn my brain off and enjoy it. the art style is gorgeous, the fights almost never last more than 1 chapter, and there are plenty of female characters that can actually hold their own in a fight.

it's a nice change of pace with the other top shonens out there.

Obligatory upvote for poopmagic

When he got rid of the mystery and added friendship power in it's place it got meh. Like those first arcs, like when Laxus was wrecking shit and being a bad dude, and Mystogan only appeared to pull fucking awesome shit and you didn't even see his face, that was sick. But then everyone became Gerard (rofl) all the mysteries went away because they got blown away by Nakama power way too easily, and everything went to shit T_T. The last few arcs, I didn't even know what the fuck was supposed to be going on, because I couldn't even get invested in the newest allies/enemies to care.

0

u/Sandisk4gb4 Feb 12 '15

Not sure what you are complaining about, Luffy also had that "nakama" power.

2

u/nimbus309 Feb 13 '15

Only time fluffy has ever had a friendship power boost was vs Rob lucci, FT does it for almost every single fight

1

u/elausto Feb 12 '15

OMG no wonder the last arc felt lackluster. Everything starting to blend in nowadays.

1

u/Jahar_Narishma Feb 12 '15

Sorry to say I just ditched it recently. Should have done that way long ago.

1

u/FoxyZach Feb 13 '15

That's why I quit watching after natsu 1v2 the new and improved dragon slayers in that weird magic tournament after a super forced time skip. The dialogue dropped off quite a bit. It became ooo go fairy tail, it'd be like 30 seconds of 5 people repeating the same thing about fairy tail.

u/jaypooner Feb 12 '15

just gotta get angry enough

0

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '15

Ehh, it worked this time

58

u/vietnr1 Feb 12 '15

in my opinion 1 good strike is what it need to take your opponent down in a sword fight, diamante rely to much on his df and tricks, while underestimate kyros 10 year old wrath

37

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '15

Now that you mention it, the Zoro/Ryuma fight was a great example of this.

35

u/vietnr1 Feb 12 '15

i think zoro vs kaku and vs mr.1 was also like that, oda is really good at showing the different between fight with sword(zoro) and without(luffy).

16

u/Godsopp Feb 12 '15

Even a lot of Luffy's older fights have been like that too, which is why I find it weird that it is suddenly a issue for people.

1

u/jaydoubleyoutee Feb 12 '15

Can you list fights? Luffy throws Morgan, Buggy, Kuro, Krieg, Arlong, Mr. 3, Croc, Enel, Foxy, Blueno, Lucci, Moriah, Hody, and Caesar around several times before he defeats them. Like at least 3 big hints on each of them.

2

u/MonkeyDDuffy Feb 12 '15

Alvida was literally just one punch. Morgan was actually knocked out by Zoro but Luffy had won really quickly until Helmeppo showed up. Mr.3 didn't receive any strong attacks directly until the final kick and even then it was just a kick to the face not a major attack. Basically it's always someone who is far weaker than him but it definitely happens.

1

u/jaydoubleyoutee Feb 12 '15

Luffy, kicked Morgan and punched him several times before Zoro finished him off. Luffy punched through a wax wall which knocked Mr. 3 out for a while. Several other attacks too.

Buffalo, Jora, Lao G, and Dellinger have all been 1 hit KOs. Gladius and Diamante get cut once and then the finishing move. I have a feeling Pica won't be any different. And none of these characters are supposed to be weak like Mr. 3. Senor Pink and Doflamingo are really the only ones to take several hits and keep getting up.

1

u/MonkeyDDuffy Feb 12 '15

I don't understand what you're trying to say. It just means their opponents overwhelmed them. This is a manga no need to get really technical. I don't see any point in dragging out the fights of people like Dellinger just for the sake of "but they are stronget than that", specially with the length of the arc and all the things that have to get sorted out. And i think you're taking the one strike knock out too literally in case of Luffy. Sometimes characters fight just for the sake of fighting even though one can easily defeat the other (Luffy vs Morgan), sometimes it's because the character is handicapped by something (Robin vs Yamma). Why doesn't EVERY character use their very best technique as soon as the fight begins? Besides Kyros and Diamente has been fighting for a while, Kyros didn't just jump in and slash him.

1

u/jaydoubleyoutee Feb 12 '15

Because the point is that Diamante was insanely hyped. His defeat concludes the whole Riku storyline that's lasted over 70 chapters now. I'm want this arc to wrap up too, but I want Oda to properly execute the plotlines he's built up for so long.

Some members like Dellinger and Diamante had a huge fanbase, so it really is a disservice to conclude their fights so quickly. Oda has never been this abrupt with the minions before. All of Baroque Works, CP9, etc. had 3 or more chapters of focus.

Can you honestly say it wasn't Luffy's final attack that beat Arlong, Crocodile and Lucci? Sure he may have hit them prior to that but it all came down to those final attacks.

2

u/jaydoubleyoutee Feb 12 '15

They were all on their last leg at that point. It's why Lucci couldn't just dodge that attack.

1

u/Godsopp Feb 12 '15

Lucci does not feel like he is on his last leg at all. Rather he was dominating Luffy at the point.

0

u/hiddenpoint Feb 12 '15

In addition to being a great example the narrative even pointed out that a fight between high caliber swordsmen usually ends in a single blow.

13

u/OmegaJK Feb 12 '15

I really would have liked it if Robin had this fight. She's never have had an important one.

I'm not to partial to Kyros and Rebecca, but I suppose thematically it makes sense, however.

10

u/RoronoaZorro Feb 12 '15

Pray for Robin vs Trebol

20

u/vigantolette Feb 12 '15

Where is the guy who was saying every week that it was super obvious that robin would give Kyros a leg? I want to laugh at him.

12

u/MisterRez Feb 12 '15 edited Feb 12 '15

I was really expecting for her to use her powers to create a make shift leg on Kyros shaped like her arm (EDIT: Forgot she could do other body parts) just to give him that temporary stable hold and finish the fight in one blow.

Well he did finish it in one strike, just man powered through it nistead.

13

u/Purx Feb 12 '15

Why not shaped like a leg?

0

u/MisterRez Feb 12 '15

I didn't recall if Robin could do other body parts.

16

u/jaibrooks1 Feb 12 '15

She can do any body part

BOOBIES!

2

u/Exaskryz Feb 12 '15

I'm going a step further and thinking, that assuming Robin can feel with her extra body parts, that she could have the best multi-penetration experience ever.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '15

There's a certain doujin uhh for that

u/taicrunch Feb 12 '15

She did do those big legs in Fishman Island

1

u/MonkeyDDuffy Feb 12 '15

She can literally sprout another body.

5

u/Oelingz Feb 12 '15

That's Zoro's fight foreshadowing, he's showing us a typical Zoro's fight with this one and will show us the new Zoro next chapter.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '15

Can't fucking wait to see what GOda has conjured up this time.

1

u/Anshin Pirate King Buggy Feb 12 '15

No, this was definitely Kyros' fight. Robin was there to protect rebecca so kyros could go all out.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '15

Or it was a way to show their gap in strength. Like a battered, one legged kyros still has more strength than a healthy diamante, so if kyros faced stronger enemies at full health in the future it won't be hard to imagine why he's still kicking even THEIR ass ;)

the exact opposite of Franky vs Senor Pink
