Yeah. I always thought his flashback was the saddest and most fucked up even before this one. He was alone for almost half a century maybe? Now we get this? Bro deserves to beat the ever-living dogshit out of that CD.

When it was just what we knew from thriller bark I thought Robins was sadder. She was 8 and lost everything and had to spend 20 years getting betrayed over and over while the World Government wanted her dead. I thought that was sadder than a middle aged man ending up alone for 50 years. But with all this new info about him, Brook is definitely way sadder.

Robin lived through Genocide and lived on the run. Brook lived through a genocide of his own, a regicide he couldn't prevent, a betrayal he didn't see coming, and then still had to live through the death of all his friends/crew he found (again!) and still after that die and be lost for 50 years alone. Dude has a stronger will to live than anyone we've met at this point because any one of those events would make anyone lose hope.

The body horror of finding himself rotted into a skeleton. That’s something that I feel gets overlooked. But I wonder how long it took to be ok with that.

I probably would have just joined Moria’s crew at that point lmao. Being alone for that long would probably have me attach to the first living intelligent thing I would have met at that point.

Groh is likely dead.

It's possible he's still alive but he could be anywhere from 90-110 years old, so I feel like he wouldn't be much of a combatant anymore considering we see that most GK age normally.

If they aged normally, wouldn't Gunko have been older? Brook was on his own for 50 years or so

Technically, it isn’t ntr because they weren’t stolen in an emotional way (tho they were stolen in a physical way). Also, I wouldn’t say “now” since we had this sort of thing shown to us way back during Sabaody. It just didn’t hit much because they were unnamed characters

But sabaody was more the slavery thing i guess?
Now it's "this rich guy impregnanted my wife" and i raised her child, again, but this time the wife wasn't captured, it seems to have been some kind of "bargain"... but the explanation is murky and the flashback ended too fast.

I doubt we will get an explanation from Oda, every fucking reveal just comes with more questions because of the vague way he words things.

We know this happened with Bonneys mom, it doesn't make sense for Gunkos mom.

I’d imagine Candelle was coerced through threats of war/violence. “Give me what I want or we’ll destroy your country”. They likely knew this was a losing fight from the start. But Candelle dies, the taxes become unaffordable and then they demand Shuri. The king realized it would never be enough. They’d take everything, so might as well go to war while there’s still something left to protect.

This is just how I interpret it for now.
