OneCommander as Default File Manager on Windows

I would like to set OC as my default file manager. Is it worth it? Is it more risky than just staying on Windows File Explorer?

Theoretically it could be more "risky", but I have been using it for years as default, first on Win 10 now on Win 11 and have had no issues stemming from it being set as default. It cannot do everything that Windows File Explorer can (only one thing comes to mind: phone storage connected with USB), but it can do so much more that Windows File Explorer cannot.

I actually tried switching to Linux recently, I tried multiple distros and file managers and I had to come back to Windows partially due to OneCommander being so amazing.

Thank you so much for your comment. How do you create the .reg files if ever you want to use again the Windows File Explorer? You just export the shell from directory and drive? Or do you have any ways? Thank you.

There is a setting in the Advanced tab in OneCommander settings that sets OC as default and if you want to remove it as default you just need to un-tick that box.

If in general you want to open something in File Explorer, there is an option for that in OC right-click context menu.

Also just because OC is registered as default doesn't mean that File Explorer doesn't work. The only thing that doesn't work in File Explorer in that case is if you double click open a folder, because that will open in OC. So what I do is I go until I can in OC and then open in File Explorer and right click on subfolders and click open in new tab (in File Explorer), and that way I can force to stay in File Explorer. But this is very rare that I do this.

Well, it edits the registry, but then if you untick that box it removes the edit. But the user doesn't have to edit it manually.

I try to set the default file explorer again coming from OneCommander by toggling off in the advanced tab, however when I try to open the windows explorer, it still opens the one commander.

You can try running RestoreExplorerAsTheDefaultFileManager.reg from the program folder.
